Verification of redesign models: a CSP approach.

    Get PDF
One of the initial stages in the manufacturing of an article is the production of a design which satisfies a set of user requirements. Much of the design work carried out in manufacturing companies can be classified as redesign, i.e. producing a new variant of a known product family which satisfies a slightly different specification. This type of redesign application is particularly well suited to computer support since: (i) the knowledge used is well-understood; (ii) solutions are highly reusable. Redesign support systems often involve the creation of a model, which is then used by the advisory system. These models rely on constraints to express a substantial amount of design knowledge, e.g. design laws, principles, company restrictions, international standards and customer requirements. Although a lot of effort has been devoted to the verification of rule-based knowledge [1], little effort appears to have been spent on constraint verification. This paper presents a methodology to verify constraints in a redesign model and argues that verification can be seen as a Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP)

Financial Return on Equity (FROE) as a new extended DuPont analysis, applied to industrial companies in Chile

In 2020, Arana publishes an article in which he proposes an extended Dupont Analysis from a financial perspective applied to industrial companies listed on the Lima Stock Exchange. Based on this research, it was proposed to apply the same methodology to the Chilean context. The objective of the article is to define what are the elements that a DuPont analysis should have, not from an accounting point of view, but from a financial perspective, starting from three elements: asset turnover, profit margin and financial leverage. For this purpose, the data of 38 industrial companies listed on the Santiago Stock Exchange (Chile) from 2014 to 2019 were analyzed. The methodology used was multiple linear regression for the main elements of a DuPont analysis focused on finance or Financial Return on Equity (FROE). The value of this research lies in its contribution to scientific knowledge by delving into financial models and providing a new and useful tool for business decision making.Campus Huancay

Water-mediated changes in plant-plant and biological soil crust-plant interactions in a temperate forest ecosystem

In the quest to understand how biotic interactions respond to climate change, one area that remains poorly explored is how interactions involving organisms other than vascular plants will respond. However the interactions between plants and biological soil crusts (BSCs) are relevant in many ecosystems and they will likely respond uniquely to climate change. Simultaneous considerations of both plant-plant and plant-BSC interactions may substantially improve our understanding of this topic. The aim of this study is to assess whether water availability differentially affects the biotic effects of BSCs and pioneer shrubs on the early life-history stage of tree seedling growth. We conducted a greenhouse factorial experiment with soil surface cover (bare soil, soil covered by a creeping shrub and BSC covered soil) and water regime (control and drought) as factors. We monitored Nothofagus pumilio (a native tree species of ecological and economic relevance) seedling water status and growth as well as changes in soil water content and soil properties. The shrub cover had a positive effect on soil water conservation and on the water balance of seedlings under water stress. However, its effect was negative for seedling growth under both water conditions. The BSC also contributed to soil water conservation and apparently added nutrients to the soil. The net effect of the BSC on seedling growth was negative under full-watering conditions but positive under water stress conditions. This result highlights how the studied biotic interactions, and especially interactions involving BSCs, depend on changes in water availability.Fil: Pissolito, Clara Ines. The high-resolution map of Oxia Planum, Mars; the landing site of the ExoMars Rosalind Franklin rover mission

    Get PDF
This 1:30,000 scale geological map describes Oxia Planum, Mars, the landing site for the ExoMars Rosalind Franklin rover mission. The map represents our current understanding of bedrock units and their relationships prior to Rosalind Franklin’s exploration of this location. The map details 15 bedrock units organised into 6 groups and 7 textural and surficial units. The bedrock units were identified using visible and near-infrared remote sensing datasets. The objectives of this map are (i) to identify where the most astrobiologically relevant rocks are likely to be found, (ii) to show where hypotheses about their geological context (within Oxia Planum and in the wider geological history of Mars) can be tested, (iii) to inform both the long-term (hundreds of metres to ∼1 km) and the short-term (tens of metres) activity planning for rover exploration, and (iv) to allow the samples analysed by the rover to be interpreted within their regional geological context
