Soil moisture patterns and hydraulic properties associated with alternative biomass cropping systems across a landscape gradient

    Get PDF
Predicting the hydrologic consequences of biomass cropping systems requires an understanding of how different crops and management practices affect soil hydraulic properties across space and time. To inform such predictions, I investigated the impacts of five biomass cropping systems on the hydraulic properties of soils across a landscape gradient in wet, dry, and average rainfall years. I used data from 2010 - 2012 on monthly volumetric soil moisture content and data from 2009 - 2013 on changes in saturated hydraulic conductivity to measure significant differences in mean soil moisture content among five cropping systems across five landscape positions. My results suggest moisture content was most broadly controlled by the amount of rainfall within a year, but there were also significant differences with landscape positions, cropping systems, cropping system by landscape position, and soil clay content; biomass yield was not a significant predictor of soil moisture. I also found a significant change in saturated hydraulic conductivity among cropping systems from 2009 to 2013, and different saturated conductivity among cropping systems at different landscape positions in 2013. Differences in hydraulic conductivity among cropping systems were commonly found at floodplain and footslope positions; there were very few significant differences among cropping systems at the summit, shoulder, and backslope positions. Changes over time within cropping systems are attributed to conversion to either perennial cropping systems or to no-till soil management in annual systems. My results support the hypothesis that different biomass cropping systems will have different hydrological impacts depending on landscape position. This knowledge can be used to parameterize or improve physically-based hydrologic models of biomass production and understand the potential environmental impacts bioenergy crop production

This study is aimed to develop teaching materials, which is an English module for Elementary School Teacher Education Programs in Indonesia based on the integrated language skill approach. A number of 75 respondents from the Elementary School Teacher Education Programs at three universities participated in this research, they are from Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha in Bali, Universitas Mulawarman in Samarinda, and Universitas Negeri Manado in Manado. At the Elementary School Teacher Education Programs, no book with a practical model of integrated language skill is available at these universities. In collecting and analyzing the data, this study combined the research and development (RD) model of Gall et al. (2003). The process comprised four stages to develop this module, they are (1) preliminary studies and needs analysis, (2) product design and development, (3) evaluation, field test, and product revision, (4) and product refinement and dissemination. The data was gained through three instruments from questionnaires, interviews, and formative tests to measure the mastery of English teaching materials for primary school teacher education. The result of this study demonstrated that the module is feasible and effective for English Elementary School Teacher Education Programs at the three universities.

Purpose: Workplace loneliness is not something we often hear in organizations. Being a pervasive issue and having adverse effects, little attention has been devoted to understanding its relationships. To address the gap, the present study was employed to investigate perceived organization support as antecedent and creativity as a consequence outcome of workplace loneliness among managerial level employees. Proactive personality was used as a moderator to test workplace loneliness relationships with antecedent and outcome for significance. Methodology: The research was conducted by adopting a cross-sectional design, where data was collected in dyads by using two separate questionnaires for manager-subordinate relationships. The sample population (N=348) were individuals in a dyadic relationship working at managerial and subordination levels from the banking, education, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical sectors. By using CFA measurement model was accessed and hierarchical regression analysis was adopted to test the curvilinear relationship between perceived organizational support and workplace loneliness. Hays process macros were used for testing moderating effects. Finding& Conclusion: Results revealed a negative (-) relationship of workplace loneliness with its antecedent and outcome. This study also indicated that high proactive individuals are less likely to exhibit workplace loneliness when support is high. It also indicated that highly proactive individuals in the presence of workplace loneliness represent creative behavior as compared to low proactive individuals.

It\u27s way before the decree of prostitution and pornography enforced in Indonesia, the Dalihan na Tolu customs had their own regulation in preventing prostitution phenomenon. Dalihan na Tolu consist of 3 elements as it is understood as three poles in traditional burning-stove which cooperating to each other, this is also applied to prostitution prevention. In every prevention of these prostitution practices, they lean on the philosophy of :”Somba mar Mora, Elek mar Anak Boru, Manat-manat mar Kahanggi”. Dalihan na Tolu custom has a principles that one cannot speak careless words or act in imprudent behaviour in front of the public.INTISARIJauh sebelum lahirnya undang-undang tentang prostitusi dan pornografi di Indonesia, ternyata masyarakat adat Dalihan na Tolu telah memiliki aturan tersendiri dalam melakukan pencegahan tindak prostitusi.

Acute neurological diseases requiring hospitalization are unusual in young women. Some of these diseases are unique to pregnancy and the post-partum period including pre-ecclampsia. Others such as cerebral venous thrombosis, ischemic stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, etc. are indirectly related to pregnancy and seen less frequently. To explore the causes of neurological emergencies in this specific patient population, we performed a radiological audit of young women in pregnancy and postpartum period presenting with neurological emergencies. Material and methods: This was a retrospective study carried in the Department of Radiology, Liaquat National Hospital over one year from January 2013 till January 2014, after approval by ethical review committee of the hospital. Patients presenting with neurological signs and symptoms during pregnancy or in postpartum period (up to 6 weeks) requiring medical referral were included in the study. Result: A total of 18 patients presented with acute neurological emergencies during postpartum period. Imaging was done in all those patients including CT and MRI while MRV was done in selective patients. Age range was between 20-33 years. The commonest radiological diagnosis was PRES in 9 patients. Other patients had cerebral venous thrombosis (4 patients), intra-cerebral hemorrhage (2 patients), infarction (1 patient), ADEMS (1 patient) and arterio-venous malformation (1 patient). Conclusion: Young women in pregnancy and post-partum period can present with a variety of acute neurological emergencies. In our series, PRES was the commonest diagnosis
