Duality violation in QCD Sum Rules with the LR correlator

Determination of the Chiral Couplings L_10 and C_87 from Semileptonic Tau Decays

Using recent precise hadronic tau-decay data on the V-A spectral function, and general properties of QCD such as analyticity, the operator product expansion and chiral perturbation theory, we get accurate values for the QCD chiral order parameters L_10^r(M_rho) and C_87^r(M_rho). These two low-energy constants appear at order p^4 and p^6, respectively, in the chiral perturbation theory expansion of the V-A correlator. At order p^4 we obtain L_10^r(M_rho) = -(5.22\pm 0.06)10^{-3}. Including in the analysis the two-loop (order p^6) contributions, we get L_10^r(M_rho) = -(4.06\pm 0.39)10^{-3} and C_87^r(M_rho) = (4.89\pm 0.19)10^{-3}GeV^{-2}. In the SU(2) chiral effective theory, the corresponding low-energy coupling takes the value \overline l_5 = 13.30 \pm 0.11 at order p^4, and \overline l_5 = 12.24 \pm 0.21 at order p^6.Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures, v2: Added reference, published versio

Finite Dimension: A Mathematical Tool to Analise Glycans

There is a need to develop widely applicable tools to understand glycan organization, diversity and structure. We present a graph-theoretical study of a large sample of glycans in terms of finite dimension, a new metric which is an adaptation to finite sets of the classical Hausdorff "fractal" dimension. Every glycan in the sample is encoded, via finite dimension, as a point of Glycan Space, a new notion introduced in this paper. Two major outcomes were found: (a) the existence of universal bounds that restrict the universe of possible glycans and show, for instance, that the graphs of glycans are a very special type of chemical graph, and (b) how Glycan Space is related to biological domains associated to the analysed glycans. Gestión y difusión de servicios y recursos del CRAI de la Universidad Europea de Madrid con software open source Koha y Joomla

El CRAI Dulce Chacón de la Universidad Europea de Madrid gestiona sus servicios con software open source Koha y Joomla junto a un buen número de módulos y plugins que extienden y potencian sus funcionalidades. En esta comunicación se mostrará su capacidad y flexibilidad a la hora de proporcionar un servicio de calidad completamente adaptado a las necesidades de su comunidad universitaria. Si bien las bibliotecas asociadas a REBIUN acumulan ya una buena experiencia administrando servicios con software abierto (DSpace, Eprints, OJS, Drupal, Omeka, Moodle, etc.), todavía son pocas las que han apostado por software de código abierto como Koha para la gestión integral de sus recursos (entendiendo este término en sentido amplio). Por otra parte, también se utilizan diferentes CMS para la difusión de sus servicios y colecciones entre los que cabe destacar Drupal, aunque hay otros sistemas como Joomla que proporcionan una gran autonomía y flexibilidad para construir y mantener sitios web adaptados a las necesidades de la biblioteca o del CRAI. En consonancia con lo anterior, cabe señalar que el modelo de gestión de software Open Source en la biblioteca universitaria española está ya consolidado, prueba de ello es que muchas de ellas han dado el paso para integrarlos como herramientas de gestión; a ello también ha contribuido la creciente oferta de empresas que se han especializado en este nicho de mercado y que han permitido una sana competencia en la que los criterios diferenciadores son la calidad y el preci

Fracture test of a Gothic ribbed vault

A Gothic ribbed vault has been built at the School of Architecture of Madrid in order to investigate the construction complexities of this kind of vaults. The ribbed vault is described in the manuscript of Alonso de Vandelvira, and its shape was reconstructed making using the drawings this architect from the 16th century. The fracture test was carried on by loading the central keystone of the vault until its collapse took place. The experiment was filmed and by doing so, it was possible to observe the failure mechanism of the vault. At the same time, it was interesting to compare this collapse experience with the results obtained using two different me-thods. First, a stability calculation was carried out through graphic statics, and secondly a calcu-lation was performed using the rigid-block analysis method.
