Analysis of the Utilization of Air-Cooled Blast Furnace Slag as Industrial Waste Aggregates in Self-Compacting Concrete

    Get PDF
In this work, the effects of replacing the aggregates of self-compacting concrete by air-cooled blast furnace slag have been analysed. Different mixes have been manufactured by substituting the fine and coarse natural aggregates by air-cooled blast furnace slag. The fracture energy and the tensile and compressive strength have been determined for each mix. The self-compacting properties of the mixes, or the absence of them, have been observed. The main goals of this research are the decrease of the price of aggregates, reduction of the industrial waste, and attenuation the rate of consumption of natural resources. The results show that the self-compactability of the concrete is gradually lost as the slag content is increased, thus, when the ratio of replacement is low, the concrete keeps the self-compacting properties. Nevertheless, the loss of self-compaction affects the mechanical properties by increasing its strength. An air-cooled blast furnace slag did not present problems of heavy metals leaching.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad BIA2016-75431-RUniversidad de Sevilla VI Plan Propio de Investigació

Marginal Bone Loss around Implants with Internal Hexagonal and Internal Conical Connections: A 12-Month Randomized Pilot Study

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to analyze the differences in terms of the marginal bone level (MBL) around implants with either an internal conical or an internal hexagonal implant–prosthesis connection. A randomized clinical trial included patients in need of a single implant-supported restoration. The implant–prosthesis connection was either internal conical or internal hexagonal while maintaining the same type of implant macro- and microarchitecture. Clinical and radiographical variables were registered up to 12 months of follow-up, including MBL. A total of 30 patients were included in the study. The main outcome variable, MBL 12 months after prosthesis delivery, was statistically different in both groups: −0.25 (0.12) vs. −0.70 (0.43) (conical vs. hexagonal; p = 0.033). Differences were also observed at the 3- and 6-month follow-up visits as well as for the MBL change from prosthesis delivery to the 12-month follow-up (−0.15 (0.13) vs. −0.56 (0.44); conical vs. hexagonal; p = 0.023). Correlations between MBL around the implants and radiographic measurements on the adjacent teeth, buccal bone to implant, tissue thickness or keratinized tissue were not significant neither globally nor when analyzed independently by group. In view of such results, it can be concluded that single-unit restorations with internal hexagonal-connection implants induce higher marginal bone loss after 12 months of follow-up from prosthesis delivery than internal conical-connection implants.Proclinic S.A.—Oxtein Iberia S.LTechnology Transfer Office of the University of Granada #C-4344Research Group #CTS-1028 (Junta de Andalucía, Spain

Revealing the role of Pb 2+ in the stability of organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite CH 3 NH 3 Pb 1− x Cd x I 3: an experimental and theoretical study

    Get PDF
This paper presents the synthesis of organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite CH3NH3Pb1−xCdxI3. The effect of incorporating Cd2+ or Pb2+ on the stability of the perovskite structure was analysed from a theoretical and experimental viewpoint. The XRD results showed that the tetragonal perovskite structure was formed for x values of up to 0.5, which seems to indicate that the presence of a considerable amount of Pb2+ is necessary to stabilise the structure. In turn, UV-Vis spectroscopy showed how the presence of Cd2+ led to a reduction in the optical band gap of the perovskite structure of up to 9% for CH3NH3Pb0.5Cd0.5I3 with regard to the MAPbI3 structure. Moreover, periodic-DFT calculations were performed to understand the effect of the increased concentration of Cd on the structural and electronic properties of MAPbI3 perovskites. The analysis of both the ELF and the non-covalent interaction (NCI) index show the important role played by the Pb2+ ions in stabilizing this kind of hybrid perovskite structures. Finally, the DOS analysis confirmed the experimental results obtained using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The theoretical band gap values decreased as the concentration of Cd increased.Junta de Andalucía (P09- FQM-04938)Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER)Centro Informático Científico de Andalucía (CICA

Enrichment of ATP Binding Proteins Unveils Proteomic Alterations in Human Macrophage Cell Death, Inflammatory Response, and Protein Synthesis after Interaction with Candida albicans

    Get PDF
Macrophages are involved in the primary human response to Candida albicans. After pathogen recognition, signaling pathways are activated, leading to the production of cytokines, chemokines, and antimicrobial peptides. ATP binding proteins are crucial for this regulation. Here, a quantitative proteomic and phosphoproteomic approach was carried out for the study of human macrophage ATP-binding proteins after interaction with C. albicans. From a total of 547 nonredundant quantified proteins, 137 were ATP binding proteins and 59 were detected as differentially abundant. From the differentially abundant ATP-binding proteins, 6 were kinases (MAP2K2, SYK, STK3, MAP3K2, NDKA, and SRPK1), most of them involved in signaling pathways. Furthermore, 85 phosphopeptides were quantified. Macrophage proteomic alterations including an increase of protein synthesis with a consistent decrease in proteolysis were observed. Besides, macrophages showed changes in proteins of endosomal trafficking together with mitochondrial proteins, including some involved in the response to oxidative stress. Regarding cell death mechanisms, an increase of antiapoptotic over pro-apoptotic signals is suggested. Furthermore, a high pro-inflammatory response was detected, together with no upregulation of key mi-RNAs involved in the negative feedback of this response. These findings illustrate a strategy to deepen the knowledge of the complex interactions between the host and the clinically important pathogen C. albicans

Some of these changes are already becoming visible; others remain in the process of study, practice and assimilation by the teaching staff. Throughout the teacher training course, certain necessary changes have been considered, as well as some lines of research whose ultimate goal is to optimize university education. As a group, we first tried to adapt the lines from the course under consideration to our area of expertise, that is, to the teaching of Contemporary History, whilst bearing in mind the many variants of the particular characteristics that this specialty confers, such as classes being taught across several university centres and various institutions linked to the university, which provides great diversity in the student body

The analysis method for selecting a data sample with minimal sampling bias is described in detail as well as the experimental cross-checks and systematic uncertainties. Furthermore, we discuss the detector acceptance and the resolution of the Xmax measurement and provide parametrizations thereof as a function of energy. The energy dependence of the mean and standard deviation of the Xmax distributions are compared to air-shower simulations for different nuclear primaries and interpreted in terms of the mean and variance of the logarithmic mass distribution at the top of the atmosphere.Comision Nacional de Energia AtomicaFundacion AntorchasGobierno De La Provincia de MendozaMunicipalidad de MalargueNDM HoldingsValle Las LenasAustralian Research CouncilNational Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq)Ciencia Tecnologia e Inovacao (FINEP)Carlos Chagas Filho Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ)Fundacao de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Sao Paulo (FAPESP) 2010/07359-6 1999/05404-3Ministerio de Ciencia e Tecnologia (MCT), BrazilGrant Agency of the Czech Republic Czech Republic Government 14-17501SCentre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS)Region Ile-de-FranceDepartement Sciences de l'Univers (SDU-INSU/CNRS)Institut Lagrange de ParisFrench National Research Agency (ANR) ANR-10-LABX-63 ANR-11-IDEX-0004-02Federal Ministry of Education & Research (BMBF)German Research Foundation (DFG)Finanzministerium Baden-WurttembergHelmholtz AssociationMinisterium fur Wissenschaft und ForschungNordrhein WestfalenMinisterium fur WissenschaftForschung und KunstBaden-Wurttemberg, GermanyIstituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN)Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR)Gran Sasso Center for Astroparticle Physics (CFA)CETEMPS Center of Excellence, ItalyConsejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia (CONACyT)Ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en WetenschapNetherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO)FOM (The Netherlands) Netherlands GovernmentNational Centre for Research and Development ERA-NET-ASPERA/01/11 ERA-NET-ASPERA/02/11National Science Centre, Poland 2013/08/M/ST9/00322 2013/08/M/ST9/00728 HARMONIA 5 - 2013/10/M/ST9/00062Portuguese national funds within COMPETE - Programa Operacional Factores de Competitividade through Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia, PortugalFEDER funds within COMPETE - Programa Operacional Factores de Competitividade through Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia, PortugalRomanian Authority for Scientific Research ANCSCNDI-UEFISCDI 20/2012 194/2012 1/ASPERA2/2012 ERA-NET PN-II-RU-PD-2011-3-0145-17 PN-II-RU-PD-2011-3-0062Minister of National Education, Programme for research - Space Technology and Advanced Research - STAR, Romania 83/2013Slovenian Research Agency - SloveniaComunidad de Madrid Instituto de Salud Carlos IIIEuropean Union (EU)Spanish GovernmentXunta de GaliciaEuropean Community 7th Framework Program, Spain FP7-PEOPLE-2012-IEF-328826Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC)United States Department of Energy (DOE) DE-AC02-07CH11359 DE-FR02-04ER41300 DE-FG02-99ER41107 DE-SC0011689National Science Foundation (NSF) 0450696Grainger Foundation, USANational Foundation for Science & Technology Development (NAFOSTED)European Union (EU) PIRSES-2009-GA-246806UNESCOMSMT-CR LG130077AMB14AR005CZ.1.05/2.1.00/03.005

    Get PDF
In the present work that refers to the Deepening of Psychosocial Accompaniment in Scenarios of Violence, the narrative approach has been recognized from the cases of violence of the armed conflict where the voice and the image are evidenced as narrative. Here the diverse social impacts that are characterized in the armed conflict are also recognized, the voices that reveal the subjective positioning according to the narrative of history according to the experience of each victim and the most dominant images were identified. Resilience is the role that healing plays in histories of violence and their realities. The purpose of this course is to argue these realities with the construction of linear, strategic and circular questions that allow a deeper analysis of a survivor. In the case of Peñas Coloradas, a construction of the different forms of social violence since political decadence is addressed, where psychosocial aspects and strategic actions to support victims in situations of emotional emergency are identified. Finally, in the analytical report, the photovoice instruments that have been worked by social psychology students in a chosen context are conceptualized, based on the different psychosocial impacts, it is sought to find the voice in the image and the silent expression in the narrative. imaginary and situational in each act of violenc

Desarrollo y control de un helicóptero de laboratorio de 2 GDL y de bajo costo

    Get PDF
