The pearly razorfish (Xyrichthys novacula) in the marine protected area of Freus d’Eivissa i Formentera; the effect of the spatial protection

La pesca dels raors (Xyrichthys novacula) és una de les modalitats de pesca més populars a les Illes Balears. Entre els anys 2005 i 2008 s’ha realitzat els seguiment de l’evolució de dues pesqueres d’aquesta espècie dins l’àrea protegida dels Freus d’Eivissa i Formentera amb diferent nivell de protecció, una zona amb veda temporal (del 1/04 al 31/08) i altre zona on només poden pescar els pescadors professionals una vegada finalitzada la veda temporal. Els resultats mostren com una major pressió pesquera duu associat un descens del percentatge de captura de mascles respecte a les femelles i una reducció de la mida de les femelles, fet que significa una reducció del nombre d’ous a la posta. L’augment del nivell de protecció del raors significa un augment en la mida del raor, una augment del potencial reproductiu i una forma de preservar pel futur aquesta espècie.The fishing of the pearly razorfish (Xyrichthys novacula) is very common and extended in the Balearic Islands. During the period 2005- 2008 had been studied the evolution of this species in the marine protected area of Freus d’Eivissa i Formentera in two areas with different levels of protection. One in which there is only a temporal ban (from 1/04 to 31/08) and a second where only professional fisherman are allowed to fish when the temporal ban is finished. Main findings of the present study are that a higher fishers pressure involves a reduction of te males percentages respect females in the total capture and a reduction of the females size, which means a reduction in the number of eggs in the reproductive period. The increase of the levels of protections of pearly razorfish involves a increase in its size and also a increase of its reproductive potential which means a correct way for the preservation of this specie

Pemanfaatan Bottom Ash Sebagai Agregat Buatan

The aim of this study is to explore the possible use of bottom ash as artificial aggregates. It is found that the pelletizer method by using mixer without blade is one possibility to manufacture artificial aggregates. The optimum mixture composition of artificial aggregate is found to be 3 BA : 1FA : 0,5 C , by weight, and immersed once in cement slurry. The water content in ssd condition is 27% with the compressive strength of the aggregate 2.4 MPa on the seventh day. Concrete produced with mixture compositition of 1 cement : 1.5 sand by weight, resulted in water content of 14.63% in ssd condition and compresive strength of 14.20 MPa at 28th day

Exclusive production of ω\omega meson in proton-proton collisions at high energies

First we calculate cross section for the $\gamma p \to \omega p$ reaction from the threshold to very large energies. At low energies the pion exchange is the dominant mechanism. At large energies the experimental cross section can be well described within the $k_{t}$-factorization approach by adjusting light-quark constituent mass. Next we calculate differential distributions for the $p p \to p p \omega$ reaction at RHIC, Tevatron and LHC energies for the first time in the literature. We consider photon-pomeron (pomeron-photon), photon-pion (pion-photon) as well as diffractive hadronic bremsstrahlung mechanisms. The latter are included in the meson/reggeon exchange picture with parameters fixed from the known phenomenology. Interesting rapidity distributions are predicted. The hadronic bremsstrahlung contributions dominate at large (forward, backward) rapidities. At small energies the photon-pomeron contribution is negligible compared to the bremsstrahlung contributions. It could be, however, easily identified at large energies at midrapidities. Absorptions effects are included and discussed. Our predictions are ready for verification at RHIC and LHC.Comment: 21 pages, 14 figure

L'Institut d'Estudis Metropolitans de Barcelona

Pour améliorer la connaissance du phénomène métropolitain et de ses repercussions sur le territoire catalan, le besoin se faisait sentir d'un cadre institutionnel capable de réunir les efforts de l'administration locale, de l'université et des entités de promotion économique. Dans ce sens, le 18 Octobre 1984, la Corpotation Métropolitaine de Barcelona (C.M.B.), l'Université Autonome de Barcelona (U.A.B.) et la Chambre Oficielle de Commerce, Industrie et Navigation de Barcelone ont signé un accord pour la constitution de l'Institut d'Etudes Métropolitaines de Barcelona (I.E.M.B.). Pour réussir ses objectifs, l'I.E.M.B. veut promouvoir la réalisation d'études scientifiques et techniques, soit sur les aires métropolitaines en général, soit, plus concrètement, sur la réalité métropolitaine de Barcelona. Des études de Troisième Cycle y seront organisées, afin de permettre le démarrage d'un processus stable d'accumulation de connaissance théorique et apliquée sur le phénomène métropolitain. Aussi, on y organisera des activités orientées vers la formation des techniciens et des fonctionnaires de la C.M.B. et des administrations municipales qui en font partie. La diffusion des études et des autres activités s'y fera a travers de différentes sortes de publications. Finalement, l'I.E.M.B. se propose d'entretenir des relations d'échange et de coopération au niveau international avec d'autres centres similaires, spécialisés dans les études urbaines et métropolitaines.The need for better understanding of the metropolitan phenomenon and its repercussions on the whole of Catalonia suggested the need for an institutional framework to unite the efforts of local authorities, the university and economy-promoting bodies. It was in such circumstances that the Barcelona Metropolitan Corporation (C.M.B.), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (U.A.B.) and the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation (C.O.C.I.N.) signed the agreement which set up the Barcelona Institute of Metropolitan Studies (I.E.M.B.). In order to achieve the objectives outlined, the Institute will encourage the undertaking of scientific and technical studies of a general nature on metropolitan areas on the one hand, and more specific research on Barcelona metropolitan conditions on the other. Postgraduate and doctorate courses will be offered, thus permitting a stable process of accumulation of theoretical and applied knowledge on metropolitan affaires. The Institute will also organize activities aimed at the preparation of technical and administrative staff for the C.M.B. itself and for its respective town councils. Research findings, courses and other activities will be made known through various kinds of publications. And finally, the Institute intends to maintain exchanges and cooperation at international level with similar bodies specializing in urban and metropolitan affairs.La necesidad de mejorar el conocimiento del fenómeno metropolitano y de sus repercusiones en el territorio catalán precisa de un marco institucional, que aglutine los esfuerzos de la administración local, la universidad y las entidades de promoción económica. En este sentido, el 18 de octubre de 1984, la Corporación Metropolitana de Barcelona (C.M.B.), la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (U.A.B.) y la Cámara Oficial de Comercio, Industria y Navegación de Barcelona firmaron el convenio para la constitución del Instituto de Estudios Metropolitanos de Barcelona (I.E.M.B.). Para lograr estos objetivos se pretende potenciar la realización de estudios científicos y técnicos, tanto de tipo general sobre dreas metropolitanas, como de mis concretos sobre la realidad metropolitana de Barcelona. Se organizardn estudios de tercer ciclo que. permitan un proceso acumulativo y estable de los conocimientos teóricos y aplicados sobre la realidad metropolitana. Asi mismo se realizaran actividades para la formación de técnicos y funcionarios de la propia CMB y de los ayuntamientos que la integran. Al mismo tiempo se llevará a cabo una difusión de los estudios y demds actividades a través de publicaciones de diversos tipos. Finalmente, se pretende mantener un intercambio y cooperación internacional con centros similares que estén especializados en temas urbanos y metropolitanos
