A review of the current use of commercial wearable technology and smartphone apps with application in monitoring individuals following total hip replacement surgery

    Get PDF
The advent of commercially available wearable activity monitors and smartphone apps allows objective digital monitoring of daily activities of patients before and after THR surgery. A wide variety of wearable activity monitors and smartphone apps are being marketed to assist with enhancing physical activity following surgery. A systematic review of commercial wearable tech- nology and smartphone apps was undertaken to assess the evidence supporting their efficacy in assisting rehabilitation and patient monitoring following THR. A search was conducted using the electronic databases including Medline, CINAHL, Cochrane, PsycARTICLES and PubMed of studies from January 2000 to January 2019. Five studies met the eligibility criteria. A review of the studies found very little evidence to support long term efficacy of the technology in enhancing rehabilitation and patient monitoring post THR. Future work is required to establish which commercially available monitoring technology is most valuable to patients, which ones improve clinical outcomes post THR, and what are the best economical models for their deployment

ABSTRACT This research was carried out to find the effective of using imaginative reading materials on students reading comprehension. The population of the study was 2015 /2016 second year students of SMA Swasta Muhammadiyah-8 Kisaran. The number of population of this research consisted of three parallel classes, which were selected by using cluster random sampling technique, the total were (80) students. The sample was divide into two groups; the first group is (40) students (XI IPS 1) which was the Experimental group and the second group is (40) students (XI IPS 2) which was the Control group. The experimental group was taught by using imaginative reading materials while the control group was taught without using imaginative reading materials. The instrument of the research was test. There were two kinds of test that the researcher used, they were pre-test and post-test. These tests were used to know the students’ reading comprehension before and after they are taught using imaginative reading materials. After the data had been collected, they were analyzed by using t-test formula in order to see whether the imaginative reading materials significantly affect students’ reading comprehension. The result of the analysis showed that the t-observed (5,55), it was higher than the t-table (1,852) with the level of significant (0.05) and the degree of freedom (df) (78).  So the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In this era of advance information and technology, many e-commerce platforms are rising and competing to attract the prospect customers by creating unique and out of the box video advertisements. Among them are Bukalapak, JD.ID, Lazada, Shopee, and Tokopedia as the top five rising e-commerce platforms in Indonesia which place their video advertisements in YouTube. The objectives of this research are to identify the realization of the generic structure elements in the video advertisements of those five mentioned online shops and how copy elements are distributed in the generic structure of each video. Genre analysis under the theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics by M.A.K Halliday (1984) are utilized as the framework of the analysis to see the generic structure of each video advertisement, and copy elements theory proposed by Maslen (2009) are used to identify the copy elements. The needed data were mainly taken from each online shop's YouTube channel which were further transcribed and put into designed table. This study applies qualitative approach and employs simple descriptive statistics analysis to help mapping out the findings regarding the generic structure of the video advertisements and the copy elements distribution. Keywords: e-commerce, online shop, generic structure, copy element, Systemic Functional Linguistic

Utilization of information technology (IT) has a direct impact on the judgment of external auditors and ultimately impact the audit effectiveness and efficiency. This study investigates the level of IT importance, IT utilization, and the fit between them in the context of audit job in Yemen. The proposed model investigate the impact of IT knowledge, IT training and firm size on the fit between IT importance and IT utilization. The level of IT utilization among auditors is lower than their perception towards the IT importance. Seven technologies are considered as important in the specific context of audit work in Yemen, however only two technologies are rated as utilizable by the auditors. On average, System Development and Installation receives the lowest mean value for both IT utilization and importance. On the other hand, General Office Automation receives the highest mean value. Generally, responding auditors perceived their overall importance of IT as important, while their current utilization of IT is less than adequate. A questionnaire was used to gather data from 197 auditors representing Big-Four and non Big-Four firms. The results show that IT knowledge and IT training significantly contributed to the fit of IT utilization and IT importance. Additionally, results imply that information systems audit in Yemen is still at the minimum level

The alignment between the importance and utilisation of IT (IT fit), and the impact of IT fit on organisational performance has been an issue of concern for many researchers. Therefore, this study examined the effect of organisational, social, individual, and environmental factors on IT fit and on auditors’ performance as well as the influence of IT fit on auditors’ performance. It also examined the mediating effect of IT fit on the relationship between these independent variables and auditors’ performance. Data from 274 auditors were analyzed using the PLS-SEM. The results indicate that auditors perceived their utilisation of IT utilisation to be less than the importance of IT, hence providing important insights into the importance and the utilisation of technologies in the context of audit work in Yemen. The findings suggest that information systems audit in Yemen is still at the minimum level. Further analyses on the effect of the independent variables, namely IT knowledge, facilitating resources, IT trust, competitive pressure, management support, client’s complexity of the IT system, internalisation and cognitive style, on IT fit show them to be positive and significant. Interestingly, IT fit is found to be a mediator between these eight variables and auditors’ performance. This study also finds that management support, IT knowledge, IT trust, internalisation, IT training, client’s complexity of the IT System, cognitive style and IT fit have positive and significant effects on auditors’ performance. The three most important variables are IT knowledge, facilitating resources, and management support. The findings suggest the important role of IT fit in increasing the effect of these variables on auditors’ performance. Therefore, audit firms and professional bodies need to focus on the issue of IT fit to increase the performance of their auditors
