Improving patients with chronic lower limb arterial ischaemia

    Get PDF
Atherosclerosis of the lower limb arteries is the cause of ischemia in their area. Improper supply of nutrients to the leg muscles by blood results in pain, in particular those that intensify during exercise, when the nutritional need increases in the contracting muscles. The task of the physiotherapist is to improve the patient's quality of life. At the beginning, proper diagnostics should be performed to assess the level of ischemia, its severity and the patient's physical abilities. To assess these properties, a 6-minute gait test, ABI index and intermittent claudication distance test can be used. In therapy, special attention should be given to training on the treadmill, cycloergometer, walks and resistance exercises. The basic premise of improvement is to extend the patient's pain-free distance

Introduction: Sport is considered one of the oldest educational areas and forms of entertainment for mankind since antiquity. Over time, many new sports have been distinguished, among which, the most popular in Poland are: athletics and football. Athlete's image suggests that they take care for their health, and that their health behaviours should be the most intense. Aim of the study: The aim of the study was to assess the severity of health behaviours among athletes and football players, as well as to compare and analyze their results. Material and methods: The study included 100 sportsmen: 50 athletes and 50 footballers in the age range of 16-22 years. To assess health behaviors, the Inventory of Health Behaviors according to Z. JuczyƄski has been used. Results: Analysis of the results showed that the football players are sportsmen who care more about their health. The result of their average health behaviour index was higher than in the case of athletes. The vast majority of athletes were assigned to the group with the average level of health behaviours, while the most football players were placed in the group showing high-quality health behaviours. However, taking into account the Sten average , all of them can be classified as mid-level results. In both disciplines, the lowest results were achieved in the category of "correct eating habits", the highest in the "positive psychological attitude" category. Conclusions: The study showed that sportsmen against the rest of the society do not show a high level of health behaviours. However, among them football players are more health-oriented than athletes

Rehabilitation after amputation of the lower limb in the course of Diabetic Foot Syndrome

    Get PDF
One of the most popular civilization diseases is type II diabetes. Abnormal glucose metabolism leads to life-threatening complications within the nervous and vascular systems. Irregularities of these systems in case of some patients lead to the development of the Diabetic Foot Syndrome. The resulting imprints, wounds, abrasions and calluses are a good environment for the development of bacteria, which is why there is a high risk of wound infection leading to the appearance of a difficult to heal ulcer. In life-threatening conditions, doctors decide to amputate the limb. In order to regain dexperity and independence, the patient after the limb amputation should start rehabilitation as soon as possible

The authors present a summary of previous research projects in the field of professional situation of artists in Poland. They refer to the conducted research of the Labour Market of Artists and Creators in Poland as well as the expertise of “The Support for Artists and Creators. International Perspective”. They also present their vision of a support system for creators and artists, which comprises: the monitoring and analysis; the status of an artist; remuneration (government programmes and potential mechanisms to stimulate demand; taxes; copyright law); insurance; foreign promotion of artists; the organisation of the labour market of artists and adjusting education to its requirements. Finally, they refer to the presentation delivered at the conference “Creative Economy in Poland, Facts and Myths”, organised by the Creative Economy Research Center of SWPS University. The main postulate proposed by the authors is to create a platform for constant monitoring and analysis of the professional situation of artists in Poland, to which the project of estimating the number of artists, creators and performers should lead

Dimension properties of the boundaries of exponential basins

We prove that the boundary of a component UU of the basin of an attracting periodic cycle (of period greater than 1) for an exponential map on the complex plane has Hausdorff dimension greater than 1 and less than 2. Moreover, the set of points in the boundary of UU which do not escape to infinity has Hausdorff dimension (in fact: hyperbolic dimension) greater than 1, while the set of points in the boundary of UU which escape to infinity has Hausdorff dimension 1.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figur

Why do Polish medical students resign from pursuing surgical careers? A survey study

    Get PDF
Background: In recent years, the interest of Polish medical students in choosing a career in surgical subspecialties has been declining. In the face of a growing demand for surgical procedures it seems essential to find the reasons responsible for that situation. Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the level of interest in pursuing surgical careers among Polish medical students and to identify factors that may influence their decision. Material and methods: An anonymous questionnaire was distributed electronically among students from 11 different Polish medical universities. Results: We surveyed 595 individuals (190 male and 405 female). 48% of them declared interest in choosing surgical subspecialty as a career. The percentage of students who considered it before medical school was higher and reached almost 65%. Slight or no interest in surgery as a field of study (OR = 20.6), self-assessment of surgical predispositions as unsatisfactory (OR = 14.3), feeling unable to enter and accomplish surgical specialty (OR = 5.2), being discouraged by the partner (OR = 3.4), negative past experience with the surgical environment (OR = 3.2), not having a surgeon as a mentor (OR = 2.6), no authorship of journal articles or congress presentations (OR = 1.9) and first contact with the operating theatre >2nd year of study (OR = 1.9) were found to be the independent risk factors of abandoning a surgical career. Conclusions: Most medical students are interested in pursuing a surgical specialty at some time during their education. However, being discouraged by lifestyle issues, surgical training quality or experiencing gender discrimination, they often resign from such a career path

Selection of proper footwear for people with diabetes and its complications

Diabetes, which commonly occurs in society, often contributes to the development of adverse complications in the form of micro and macroangiopathy and neuropathy. Irregularities within these structures are the causes of development of diabetic foot syndrome. The prophylaxis plays a very important role in case of people with diabetes. It is recommended to choose the right, individually designed footwear that will prevent the formation of wounds on the feet. In the period of prevention, hygiene and foot control also play an important role in preventing the development of calluses or the formation of cuts. Among people suffering from diabetes, wounds tend to be difficult to heal, therefore, if the wounds occur, comprehensive treatment should be undertaken. In addition to the standard methods of wound supply, it is necessary to unload this body part. It is recommended to wear unloading footwear or insoles that are specially designed for the patient's needs. Computer foot diagnostics is helpful in choosing the right footwear, it assesses the distribution of foot pressure on the ground while walking (dynamic test) and standing (static test)

Production networks in the cultural and creative sector: case studies from the publishing industry (CICERONE report D2.8)

    Get PDF
The CICERONE project investigates cultural and creative industries through case study research, with a focus on production networks. This report, part of WP2, examines the publishing industry within this framework. It aims to understand the industry's hidden aspects, address statistical issues in measurement, and explore the industry's transformation and integration of cultural and economic values. The report provides an overview of the production network, explores statistical challenges, and presents qualitative analyses of two case studies. It concludes by highlighting the potential of the Global Production Network (GPN) approach for analyzing, researching, policymaking, and intervening in the European publishing network. The CICERONE project's case study research delves into the publishing industry, investigating its production networks and examining key aspects often unseen by the public. The report addresses statistical challenges in measuring the industry and sheds light on its ongoing transformations and integration of cultural and economic values. It presents an overview of the production network, explores statistical issues, and provides qualitative analyses of two case studies. The report emphasizes the potential of the GPN approach for analyzing and intervening in the European publishing network, ultimately contributing to research, policymaking, and understanding within the industry
