Memorie della Riforma: le «Denkwürdigkeiten» della badessa Caritas Pirckheimer

Riassunto: Questo studio si pone come una riflessione filologico-letteraria sul lascito di Caritas Pirckeimer (1467-1532), che fu badessa presso l’ordine delle Clarisse di Norimberga, una delle prime città ad accettare la Riforma a seguito dei cosiddetti Religionsgespräche: il luteranesimo impose la secolarizzazione dei conventi, l’uso del tedesco nei riti ecclesiastici e l’invalidamento dei voti religiosi. Di fronte a questo Caritas reagisce grazie alla sua profonda conoscenza e al potere conferitole dal ruolo che ricopriva: tra i suoi interlocutori si annoverano umanisti, teologi e rappresentanti dell’amministrazione civica, con cui intrattiene scambi epistolari tanto su complesse questioni teologiche, come i sola del luteranesimo, quanto su questioni pratiche che riguardano le conseguenze della nuova fede sulla vita quotidiana delle comunità religiose. Di quegli anni (1524-1528) è conservata memoria nelle Denkwürdigkeiten, tramandate in quattro manoscritti, nel più antico dei quali (D) è stata identificata la mano editoriale di Caritas. Si tratta di un testo ibrido ascrivibile alla cronaca storiografica, che contiene trascrizioni di lettere e di conversazioni, resoconti e riflessioni, e che può essere considerato un documento chiave per analizzare la Riforma da una peculiare prospettiva sociale, di genere e religiosa.Parole-chiave: Caritas Pirckheimer – Denkwürdigkeiten – Riforma protestante – Martin Lutero Abstract: This article deals with some philological and literary remarks on Caritas Pirckheimer’s heritage (1467-1532). Caritas was abbess at the Poor Clares order in Nuremberg, one of the first towns to accept the Reformation following the so called Religionsgespräche: Lutheranism imposed the secularization of the cloisters, the use of German during religious rites and the cancellation of vows. Against this the abbess reacts by means of her profound knowledge and the power derived by the role that she played. Among her interlocutors there were humanists, theologians and representants of the city administration: with them she had epistolary exchanges concerning both complex theological issues, such as the sola of Lutheranism, and the practical consequences of the new faith on the daily life of religious communities. The Denkwürdigkeiten preserve memory of those years (1524-528): the text is handed down in four manuscripts, in the oldest of which Caritas’s hand has been identified. It is a hybrid work which is assignable to the historiographical chronicle. It contains transcripts of letters and conversations, reports and thoughts, and it can be considered a key document to analyse the Reformation from a unique social, religious, and gender perspective.
