Tendencies in financing the agricultural and food sector under the common agricultural policy

    Get PDF
Poland, having joined the EU, became subject to regulations that significantly changed the conditions under which its food industry functioned. As markets opened up to each other, the possibilities of sale increased and competitiveness of economic entities improved. Mobilised public funds contributed, among other things, to modernisation of agricultural holdings and food industry enterprises, improvement of their competitiveness, construction of the infrastructure and multifunctional development of rural areas. The paper discusses tendencies in financing agriculture under the Common Agricultural Policy in Poland against the production and economic situation of the agricultural and food sector

The aim of the paper is to present the usage of different methods for obtaining 3D virtual models in order to document and better understand features of various kinds of data collected during excavations of the Polish Archaeological Mission of the University of Warsaw at Kato Paphos in Cyprus. During several recent seasons of excavations we tested a few methods of generating 3D spatial data, among others the image-based modelling and the structured light 3D scanner. As an interdisciplinary group of architects and archaeologists we used them for different kinds of objects: from relatively small pieces of architectural details and sculpture (e.g. fragments of columns, cornices, altars, etc.), through archaeological trenches to fragments of bigger structures and edifices. Most of the objects, independently of their size and scale, belonged to architectural remains. The comparison of methods and workflows with spatial data on the field helped us to find the best solution for multidisciplinary studies on the archaeological site of the Greek and Roman residential settlement in Kato Paphos

Eruption of palmoplantar pustular psoriasis in patient treated with anti-androgen therapy for prostate cancer and aggravation of lesions after statin treatment

Abstract The article focuses on the eruption of palmoplantar pustular psoriasis, which was documented in a 53-year-old man diagnosed with prostate cancer with bone metastases. This clinical finding was made during routine hormone therapy and palliative radiotherapy. The local improvement in skin lesions was achieved following administration of topical ointments and the use of UVA 311 nm radiation therapy. The management of prostate cancer in this subject resulted in malaise, onset of diabetes mellitus and increased concentration of serum lipids. Interestingly, a few days after the statin treatment was initiated, the intensive pustule eruption was observed as well as severe pain and burning sensation in the palms and soles. The dermatological treatment led to significant improvement. The patient is still receiving oncological therapy and is monitored by dermatologists on a regular basis

Efficacy of a new single-pill combination of a thiazide-like diuretic and a calcium channel blocker (indapamide sustained release/amlodipine) in essential hypertension

Objectives: The current international, 12-week, double-blind, randomized, controlled trial assessed the efficacy and safety of indapamide sustained release/amlodipine single-pill combination (SPC) in mild-to-moderate hypertensive patients. Methods: Following a 4-week run-in period on amlodipine 5 mg, patients (SBP 150–180 mmHg and/or DBP < 110 mmHg) were randomized to indapamide 1.5 mg sustained release/amlodipine 5 mg SPC or amlodipine 5 mg/valsartan 80 mg SPC with conditional uptitration at week 6. Office blood pressure (BP) was assessed at baseline, weeks 6 and 12; ambulatory and home blood pressure monitoring (ABPM/HBPM) at baseline and week 12. Results: Baseline characteristics were similar in both groups (57 years, 51% men, BP 160/92 mmHg). 233 patients were randomized to IndSR/Aml and 232 to amlodipine/valsartan, of whom 48 and 57% were uptitrated, respectively. After 12 weeks, office SBP/DBP decreased similarly with both treatments (−21/−8 vs. −20/−8 mmHg) leading to BP control in 50% and BP response in 70% of patients. Uptitration was effective (P < 0.001) with both regimens, in favour of IndSR/Aml (SBP/DBP −12/−6 vs. −7/−3 mmHg, respectively). ABPM (n = 273) and HBPM (n = 194) confirmed 24-h efficacy of both regimens. In the subgroup of patients with sustained uncontrolled hypertension assessed by ABPM (n = 216), office SBP/DBP decreased by −23/−13 vs. −18/−10 mmHg, respectively (P = 0.016/P = 0.135, post-hoc analysis). Both treatments were generally well tolerated. Conclusion: Both regimens produced effective BP reductions confirmed by ABPM/HBPM. Both treatments were well tolerated, in accordance with the individual agents’ safety profile. Trial registration number: EUDRA CT no. 2012-001690-84
