On the waves of the Amur – fascination with Russian songs, gusts of feelings and poetics transformations of Jonasz Kofta

Автор рассматривает разные виды трансформаций, которым подвергаются словесно-музыкальные тексты в процессе введения в другую культуру. Материалом для анализа стали произведения Йонаша Кофты, базирующие в основном на русских мотивах, музыке и текстах песен. Оказывается, что польский вариант необязательно является переводом, он может быть и пародией, и совсем новым произведением, и даже мистификацией.The author examines various types of transformations which a musical texts undergoes when it is introduced into a different culture. As the material for the analysis served poems of Jonasz Kofta, relying strongly on Russian motifs, Russian music and song lyrics. It turns out that the Polish version is not necessarily a translation: it may also be a parody, a completely new text or even a mystification

The Tradition of the Epoch and the Individual Features of the Translator’s Style: Ivan Bunin as the Translator of Adam Asnyk’s “Asters”

Автор статьи рассматривает стихотворение «последнего польского романтика» Адама Асныка в переводе Ивана Бунина на русский язык. В ходе рассуждений учитываются тра- диции перевода, польское и русское социокультурное пространство, а также подход Бунина к переводу. В итоге автор приходит к выводу, что литературная традиция «романтическо- го перевода» и связь русского поэта с пушкинской традицией способствовали нарушению семантических полей подлинника, одновременно способствуя расширению семантического пространства перевода.The author analyzes a poem of ‘the last Polish Romantic’ Adam Asnyk in the Russian translation by Ivan Bunin. Aspects taken into consideration include the traditions of translation, Polish and Russian sociocultural spaces, as well as Bunin’s approach to translation. The author concludes that the literary tradition of ‘Romantic translation’ and the connection of the Russian poet with Pushkin’s tradition were factors leading to the disturbance of semantic fields of the original, at the same time contributing to the expansion of the semantic space of the translation

Igor Severyanin’s poetry in translation into Polish. Tradition and innovation (two examples)

The article considers the translation of two poems by Igor Severyanin into Polish. In the first case a translational analysis of the source and the target text is offered. The second case is an example of a pre-translation analysis followed by an attempt to make a translation. What is taken into account is the issue of the old combining with the new, the innovative with the traditional in the works of the poet (on the level of vocabulary, imagery and form) and the task of reproducing this fusion in translation. The analysis indicates examples of the translator’s compensations for certain lost elements of the source texts.В статье рассматривается перевод двух стихотворений Игоря Северянина на польский язык. Первая пара стихов (подлинник и перевод) была подвергнута переводческому анализу. Вторая является примером предпероводческого анализа и попыткой выполнить перевод. В центре нашего внимания оказалась проблема сочетания старого и нового, новаторского и традиционного в произведениях поэта (на уровне лексики, образов и формы) и воспроизведение этого сочетания в переводе. Анализ указывает примеры компенсирования переводчиком утраченных элементов исходного текста

W artykule rozpatrywana jest problematyka przekładu elementów wnoszących do tekstu komizm. Zwrócono w nim uwagę zarówno na trudności przekładu związane z różnicami struktur językowych oraz tradycji kulturowych, jak i na możliwości kompensacji funkcjonalnej. Zadano także pytanie o rodzaj (typ) humoru w oryginale i tłumaczeniu.Szczególną uwagę poświęcono inwencji twórczej tłumacza, wprowadzającego do tekstu docelowego elementy komizmu nieobecne w oryginale i zastępującego realia źródłowe realiami osadzonymi w kulturze tłumaczenia. Odnotowano przy tym przypadki niezamierzonego komizmu wersji przekładowej. Zwrócono również uwagę na konieczność uwzględnienia różnic interpretacyjnych, związanych z przesunięciami w płaszczyźnie asocjacyjnej w tekście oryginału i przekładu.Przedstawiono schemat nakładania się na siebie interpretacji uczestników procesu przekładu z uwzględnieniem przesunięć, wynikających z innego widzenia świata

Soviet Literature in Primary Schools in the People’s Republic of Poland: Arkady Gaidar’s Timur and His Squad as an Example of Political School Readings.

The ideological policy of a state may influence not only the choice of texts to be translated but also the ways they are translated in order to load them with propagandist meanings. In such a context the translator’s voice may be manipulated to carry the messages an authority (e.g. a totalitarian state) requires that the translator convey. An analysis of the Polish translations of Arkady Gaidar’s Timur and His Squad suggests, however, that political manipulation may occur less through translation strategies than through editorial choices about the material presentation of the works being studied.Les politiques idéologiques d’un état peuvent influencer non seulement le choix des textes traduits, mais aussi la façon dont ils sont traduits dans le but de consolider leur portée idéologique. Dans ce type de contexte, la voix du traducteur peut être manipulée afin qu’elle exprime des messages qui sont conformes aux exigences des autorités (d’un état totalitaire). Une analyse des traductions polonaises de Timur et son équipe d’Arkady Gaidar’s suggère, toutefois, que la manipulation peut se faire moins au niveau des stratégies de traduction qu’à celui de la présentation matérielle des textes étudiés

Gawęda o budzie jarmarcznej z fabrycznymi przyległościami w tle

The article addresses the issue of the translation of a poetic feuilleton, which provides illustrative material for other academic research. The achievement of this purpose imposes certain choices on the translator, just as the temporal distance between the creation of the original and the translation does. Therefore, besides presenting practical translation solutions, the article refers to the concept of selecting equivalents from potential choices and proposes using the theory of fuzzy logic, owing to which it is possible to blur the boundaries between the creative freedom of the translator and the necessity of its limitation.  Fragments of the poetic feuilleton come from the poems published in Russian press in Łódź at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. Their translations were used in a research project devoted to the multicultural literature of Łódź and its presence in the local foreign-language press published in the city at the time.  As the translated texts concern the reality of Łódź and the problems of its residents, the translation must take into account the realities typical of the city. Consequently, the translator’s decisions were not focused solely on preserving the form and the lexical-semantic plane of the poem. They had to consider the cultural characteristics related to historical distance on the one hand and regional specificity on the other. Moreover, in some cases it was necessary to take into account references to Russian culture (primarily literature) and to decide whether they should be recreated in translation.W artykule podjęto problematykę przekładu wierszowanego felietonu, który stanowi materiał ilustracyjny do innych badań naukowych. Ten cel, podobnie jak odległość temporalna między powstaniem oryginału a powstaniem przekładu, narzuca tłumaczowi pewne wybory. Dlatego też obok prezentacji praktycznych rozwiązań translatorskich w pracy odniesiono się do koncepcji wyboru odpowiedników spośród różnych możliwości i zaproponowano wykorzystanie teorii zbiorów rozmytych, która pozwala na nieostre określanie granic między swobodą twórczą tłumacza a koniecznością jej ograniczenia. Имена собственные в поэтических переводах Виктора Ворошильского

The aim of this research is to expose Wiktor Voroshilsky’s translation strategy, especially the translation methods and techniques he uses as the author of the Polish versions of Russian poems. Theorists of translation quite often pay attention to the problem of translation of proper names, exploring different contexts related to this issue. Bazyli Tichoniuk wrote about the translation of names within Polish and Russian at the time, while for other languages we can mention works by Ewa Teodorowicz-Hellman, Anna Szcześniak, Elżbieta Skibińska, Anna Majkiewicz, and Krzysztof Hejwowski. This article attempts to indicate a specific translator’s approach to translating proper names. The material under study consists of 25 poems selected from 211 works translated by Voroshilsky. The main selection criterion was the saturation of the poem with elements of interest to the authors, as well as their diversity. This determined the research method, which focused on analysing the repeatability and variety of translation techniques. Finally, we concluded that Voroshilsky employed different methods of translation, often guided by the function performed by the proper names in the text. We also paid attention to his objective to bring the text closer to the target audience and on the creativity of the translator

Problem przekładu cytatów literackich w tekście naukowym

The article concerns the translation of a scientific text containing literary quotations, which poses difficulties for the translator that are different than those occurring in the case of a literary text. Quotations in scientific texts play a role that differs from the one performed while being distinct literary texts, and therefore their translation also has to be different. The research material was my own translation (from Russian into Polish) of my book in the field of literary studies. The article aimed at the analysis of translation of quotations occurring in the book. These quotations illustrate theoretical deliberations on such aspects as culturally-marked elements and intertext as well as the structural arrangement of the original work.Artykuł dotyczy przekładu tekstu naukowego zawierającego cytaty literackie, co piętrzy przed tłumaczem trudności odmienne niż w przypadku tekstu literackiego. Cytaty pełnią w tekście naukowym rolę inną w porównaniu z tą, jaką wypełniają, stanowiąc odrębne teksty literackie, dlatego ich tłumaczenie też musi być inne. Materiałem badawczym stał się mój autoprzekład książki z zakresu literaturoznawstwa z języka rosyjskiego na polski. The author of the article examines the problems of poetic translation by analyzing two existing translations of Nikolai Gumilyov’s poem Mechta (Dreams) in the context of adequacy of the semantic and stylistic layers of the text, and above all, from the point of view of the purpose of translation. The article discusses a third translation, which has even acquired a musical design by Konstantin Regamey. The analysis leads to the conclusion that, considering the existing translation, it is necessary to pay attention not only to microshifts but to study it as a whole. In turn, when making “countertranslation,” one should take into account both the objective and subjective dominants of the translation, including the purpose of its implementation

Political contexts of translation (Translation — Translator — Politics in the Polish and Russian sociocultural space)

The paper deals with various types of political influence on the translation and translators. The author shows different types of official (public) censorship and unofficial one (selfcensorship, punblishing policies). She discusses the problem on the basis of a range of examples (Polish and Russian mainly), and in the context of different historical epochs. She attempts to show the interrelations between the political principles and translators' decisions, and to demonstrate in what way politics influences the choice of profession.Artykuł podejmuje kwestię różnorodności wpływu polityki na tłumaczenie oraz na tłumaczy. Autorka wskazuje różne przypadki oficjalnej (np. państwowej) cenzury oraz cenzury nieoficjalnej (autocenzura, polityka wydawnicza). Rozważa to zagadnienie przede wszystkim na przykładach polskich i rosyjskich, w kontekście różnic historycznych.
