Negative linear compression and expanding NH N bonds in an imidazoline compound.
The 3-dimensional network of NHN hydrogen bonds and ClCl hydrogen contacts in the crystal structure of 2-(3âČ-chlorophenyl)imidazoline exhibits an anomalous hydrostatic compression. The lengthening of hydrogen bonds NHN and some CHN contacts as well as their supramolecular architecture lead to anomalous expansion of the crystal along [x] and [y] on increasing pressure to 0.1 GPa. The mechanism of this phenomenon is due to the âstiffnessâ of the NHN and ClCl interactions and âsoftnessâ of other van der Waals contacts. Above 0.1 GPa all crystal directions become compressed. However, up to 1.20 GPa, the crystal remains in the same orthorhombic phase of polar space group Fdd2
Being a âcolonoâ and being âdaitschâ in Rio Grande do Sul: Language choice and linguistic heterogeneity as a resource for social categorisation
This paper investigates sociolinguistic styles as indexes to social identities in the context of the âGermanâ colonial zone in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. On the basis of a detailed sequential and stylistic analysis of three interactional episodes in a sindicato office it is shown that the deployment of sociolinguistic style is relevant for the display and ascription of identity-related features of ethnic belonging (daitsch) and positioning on the rural-urban continuum (colono). In particular, the paper focuses on language choice and code-switching/mixing. âDINĂMICA CHUMBO VERSUS ALGODĂO â UMA EXPERIMENTAĂĂO DE DOER A CABEĂAâ EM UMA PERSPECTIVA DE VASILY VASILOVICH DAVYDOV
Adotamos, nesta pesquisa, em abordagem qualitativa, o mĂ©todo de anĂĄlise da produção de significados, no viĂ©s do Modelo dos Campos SemĂąnticos, para analisar a dinĂąmica da produção de significados de alunos do quinto ano, na faixa etĂĄria de doze anos, de uma escola campesina, no interior do Rio Grande do Sul. O cenĂĄrio formou-se a partir do conjunto dessas atividades de estudo desenvolvidas com esses alunos na escola em questĂŁo. Tal pesquisa ocorreu a partir do Programa Nacional de PĂłs-doutorado da Capes, por intermĂ©dio do Programa Institucional de Bolsa de IniciaçãoĂ DocĂȘncia, do Projeto Interdisciplinar no Campo e do Programa de Educação Tutorial, do Departamento de MatemĂĄtica da UFSM. No presente artigo apresentamos os significados produzidos pelos atores envolvidos na pesquisa ao analisarmos uma atividade de estudo advinda de nossa proposta de intervenção, na qual buscĂĄvamos produzir anĂĄlises dialĂłgicas, reflexivas e crĂticas que dessem subsĂdios a formulaçÔes de atividades de estudo no viĂ©s proposto por Vasily Vasilovich Davydov. European Language Grid: An Overview
With 24 official EU and many additional languages, multilingualism in Europe and an inclusive Digital Single Market can only be enabled through Language Technologies (LTs). European LT business is dominated by hundreds of SMEs and a few large players. Many are world-class, with technologies that outperform the global players. However, European LT business is also fragmented â by nation states, languages, verticals and sectors, significantly holding back its impact. The European Language Grid (ELG) project addresses this fragmentation by establishing the ELG as the primary platform for LT in Europe. The ELG is a scalable cloud platform, providing, in an easy-to-integrate way, access to hundreds of commercial and non-commercial LTs for all European languages, including running tools and services as well as data sets and resources. Once fully operational, it will enable the commercial and non-commercial European LT community to deposit and upload their technologies and data sets into the ELG, to deploy them through the grid, and to connect with other resources. The ELG will boost the Multilingual Digital Single Market towards a thriving European LT community, creating new jobs and opportunities. Furthermore, the ELG project organises two open calls for up to 20 pilot projects. It also sets up 32 national competence centres and the European LT Council for outreach and coordination purposes
Communication in civil-military cooperation
Since the end of the Cold War, Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) units have become more frequently involved in peace support operations (PSOs). Moreover, they have become more deeply engaged with peoples of different national and organizational cultures. These multicultural peacekeeping environments are rife with communication difficulties. Coordination and cooperation between numerous actors present in the field such as International Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, media, local authorities, tribal leaders and other individuals, has proved to be very challenging. Moreover, considering the nature of contemporary international interventions, any CIMIC staff is required to adapt to a wide range of new, non-military skills which would constitute a necessary "toolbox." Culturally sensitive communications such as negotiation and media interactions are vital to effective coordination and cooperation in modern peacekeeping. Thus, CIMIC officers must know how to deal with the media; how, despite enormous cultural diversity, to successfully conduct their jobs; how to work efficiently with interpreters; and finally, how to resolve local conflicts using negotiations. Besides defining these new phenomena influencing CIMIC activities in PSOs, this thesis provides suggestions or basic universal guidelines for soldiers, especially for those acting at the tactical level. At the same time, the thesis should draw the attention of those people responsible for creating and executing the entire pre-deployment training for CIMIC soldiers who are going to be working abroad.
