The Italian Consensus Position Statement on Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention of Obesity in Children and Adolescents integrates and updates the previous guidelines to deliver an evidence based approach to the disease. The following areas were reviewed: (1) obesity definition and causes of secondary obesity; (2) physical and psychosocial comorbidities; (3) treatment and care settings; (4) prevention. The main novelties deriving from the Italian experience lie in the definition, screening of the cardiometabolic and hepatic risk factors and the endorsement of a staged approach to treatment. The evidence based efficacy of behavioral intervention versus pharmacological or surgical treatments is reported. Lastly, the prevention by promoting healthful diet, physical activity, sleep pattern, and environment is strongly recommended since the intrauterine phase

A Review of Counter-UAS Technologies for Cooperative Defensive Teams of Drones

    No full text
In recent years, the drone market has had a significant expansion, with applications in various fields (surveillance, rescue operations, intelligent logistics, environmental monitoring, precision agriculture, inspection and measuring in the construction industry). Given their increasing use, the issues related to safety, security and privacy must be taken into consideration. Accordingly, the development of new concepts for countermeasures systems, able to identify and neutralize a single (or multiples) malicious drone(s) (i.e., classified as a threat), has become of primary importance. For this purpose, the paper evaluates the concept of a multiplatform counter-UAS system (CUS), based mainly on a team of mini drones acting as a cooperative defensive system. In order to provide the basis for implementing such a system, we present a review of the available technologies for sensing, mitigation and command and control systems that generally comprise a CUS, focusing on their applicability and suitability in the case of mini drones

    Supermarkets Payment System Improvement

This project targets the existing inefficiency that exists in the supermarkets payment system. The following complaints regard this system, which has caused customers to feel unsatisfied with the service received. In order to appeal to this problem, the system was studied. The study followed a cashier at a local supermarket, and reviewed one hundred clients that paid their items in it, and it served as a base for a new payment process in the supermarket industry. The data obtained studied the type of product(s) clients bought and the amount of time it took to process the purchase. Prior to this study, it was easy to find that several sources agree with the idea that the current code bar systems implemented in supermarkets belong to 20th century technology, which means that they need an urgent set of adjustments in order to be more like the innovative kind that the 21st century customers demand. Some of the complaints that clients explained, included having to stand in line for too long, having to wait for cashiers to do their job (because they go at a very slow pace, and most of the times people were in a hurry), among other negative things, and this only suggests that there are some necessary changes that need to be applied in order to improve this system, because it is simply obsolete. After applying the study, and based on the research, several recommendations are displayed. Said recommendations will help provide a better service to customers, they will help the system become more efficient, and they will help the system be more user friendly. To conclude, and after establishing the set of suggestions, it was easy to assume that the best way to ameliorate this system is by designing a radio frequency system, since it would innovate not only in the means of payment part of the system, but also in the inventory part, all while being reachable to the customer, since it would function as a mobile app

PET-Derived Radiomics and Artificial Intelligence in Breast Cancer: A Systematic Review

    No full text
Breast cancer (BC) is a heterogeneous malignancy that still represents the second cause of cancer-related death among women worldwide. Due to the heterogeneity of BC, the correct identification of valuable biomarkers able to predict tumor biology and the best treatment approaches are still far from clear. Although molecular imaging with positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) has improved the characterization of BC, these methods are not free from drawbacks. In recent years, radiomics and artificial intelligence (AI) have been playing an important role in the detection of several features normally unseen by the human eye in medical images. The present review provides a summary of the current status of radiomics and AI in different clinical settings of BC. A systematic search of PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus was conducted, including all articles published in English that explored radiomics and AI analyses of PET/CT images in BC. Several studies have demonstrated the potential role of such new features for the staging and prognosis as well as the assessment of biological characteristics. Radiomics and AI features appear to be promising in different clinical settings of BC, although larger prospective trials are needed to confirm and to standardize this evidence

Next generation beta adrenoreceptor agonists for the treatment of asthma

    No full text
Introduction: A fixed-dose inhalation of a long-acting β-agonist (LABA) and inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) is commonly recommended for moderate to severe asthmatic patients not adequately controlled by an ICS only. In order to improve the patientsâ\u80\u99 adherence and the control of disease there is a noteworthy interest for the next generation inhaled β adrenoreceptor agonists maintaining an over 24 hours bronchodilatation and used once-daily (ultra-LABAs). This review focuses on the currently available evidences on the clinical role of any single ultra-LABAs in the treatment of asthmatic patients. Areas covered: New ultra-LABAs have been developed in recent years for the treatment of asthma. In particular, several evidences in asthmatic patients include indacaterol, vilanterol, olodaterol, and abediterol. Expert opinion: Pharmacologically, all new ultra-LABAs considered have demonstrated a good ability to maintain a true bronchodilatation for over 24 hours and a good safety profile. This aspect could be a key point to improve the patientâ\u80\u99s perspective, the adherence to the treatment regimens and therefore the control of disease. At this time, however, limited data are available and no ultra-LABA+ICS may be recommended as preferred
