    Get PDF
The global energy landscape is changing. Traditional centers of demand are being overtaken by fast-growing emerging markets. Oil and coal exploration and production activities aside from a necessity, are responsible for various environmental accidents around the world. Inadequate treatment of those wastes can threaten the human health and safety as well as the environment. The article is dedicated to the actual problem today - the recycling of waste oil and coal industry and the search for ways to minimize their impact on the environment. In addition, the main goal of the work is to find ways of obtaining alternative energy in the process of waste processing. The authors analyzed the state of the oil and coal mining industry and considered the main ways of processing their waste. Among all analyzed methods of processing waste oil and coal industry, the authors pay special attention to the methods of thermal impact on waste, since they allow us to obtain an additional source of energy. Keywords: coal industry waste, oil industry waste, alternative energy, environment. JEL Classifications: Q32, Q42, Q53. DOI: https://doi.org/10.32479/ijeep.669

A clinical case of simultaneous presentation of ankylosing spondylitis and pancreatic cancer is described. Patients with rheumatic disorders must be closely followed to screen for malignancies. Most paraneoplastic rheumatic syndromes are difficult to distinguish from autoimmune rheumatic diseases; thus, cancer occurrence may constitute a major diagnostic challenge

Russia’s Legal Transitions: Marxist Theory, Neoclassical Economics and the Rule of Law

    Get PDF
We review the role of economic theory in shaping the process of legal change in Russia during the two transitions it experienced during the course of the twentieth century: the transition to a socialist economy organised along the lines of state ownership of the means of production in the 1920s, and the transition to a market economy which occurred after the fall of the Soviet Union in the 1990s. Despite differences in methodology and in policy implications, Marxist theory, dominant in the 1920s, and neoclassical economics, dominant in the 1990s, offered a similarly reductive account of law as subservient to wider economic forces. In both cases, the subordinate place accorded to law undermined the transition process. Although path dependence and history are frequently invoked to explain the limited development of the rule of law in Russia during the 1990s, policy choices driven by a deterministic conception of law and economics also played a role. This is the author accepted manuscript. No detection of methane on Mars from early ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter observations

The detection of methane on Mars has been interpreted as indicating that geochemical or biotic activities could persist on Mars today. A number of different measurements of methane show evidence of transient, locally elevated methane concentrations and seasonal variations in background methane concentrations. These measurements, however, are difficult to reconcile with our current understanding of the chemistry and physics of the Martian atmosphere, which-given methane's lifetime of several centuries-predicts an even, well mixed distribution of methane. Here we report highly sensitive measurements of the atmosphere of Mars in an attempt to detect methane, using the ACS and NOMAD instruments onboard the ESA-Roscosmos ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter from April to August 2018. We did not detect any methane over a range of latitudes in both hemispheres, obtaining an upper limit for methane of about 0.05 parts per billion by volume, which is 10 to 100 times lower than previously reported positive detections. We suggest that reconciliation between the present findings and the background methane concentrations found in the Gale crater would require an unknown process that can rapidly remove or sequester methane from the lower atmosphere before it spreads globally

Martian dust storm impact on atmospheric H2O and D/H observed by ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter

Global dust storms on Mars are rare but can affect the Martian atmosphere for several months. They can cause changes in atmospheric dynamics and inflation of the atmosphere, primarily owing to solar heating of the dust. In turn, changes in atmospheric dynamics can affect the distribution of atmospheric water vapour, with potential implications for the atmospheric photochemistry and climate on Mars. Recent observations of the water vapour abundance in the Martian atmosphere during dust storm conditions revealed a high-altitude increase in atmospheric water vapour that was more pronounced at high northern latitudes, as well as a decrease in the water column at low latitudes. Here we present concurrent, high-resolution measurements of dust, water and semiheavy water (HDO) at the onset of a global dust storm, obtained by the NOMAD and ACS instruments onboard the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter. We report the vertical distribution of the HDO/H O ratio (D/H) from the planetary boundary layer up to an altitude of 80 kilometres. Our findings suggest that before the onset of the dust storm, HDO abundances were reduced to levels below detectability at altitudes above 40 kilometres. This decrease in HDO coincided with the presence of water-ice clouds. During the storm, an increase in the abundance of H2O and HDO was observed at altitudes between 40 and 80 kilometres. We propose that these increased abundances may be the result of warmer temperatures during the dust storm causing stronger atmospheric circulation and preventing ice cloud formation, which may confine water vapour to lower altitudes through gravitational fall and subsequent sublimation of ice crystals. The observed changes in H2O and HDO abundance occurred within a few days during the development of the dust storm, suggesting a fast impact of dust storms on the Martian atmosphere

Introduction. The method and results of the aerodynamic research of the vertical axis wind power plants (WPP) with an axisymmetric stator are considered. The work objective is to show the application perspectiveness of vertical axis wind-power plants of the specified type for the national economy. Materials and Methods. The technique of virtual aerodynamic blasting and the corresponding design optimization at the specified criterion are used to perform the tasks. Within the framework of this technique, numerical aerodynamic analysis of a single rotor of the given type, and of the “rotor + socket” system before and after the optimization at the specified parameters of the freestream and rotor spinning is performed. When comparing the power of the obtained optimized WPP design with analogs, other things being equal, the aerodynamic similarity method is used. Research Results. Representative patterns of the aerodynamic flow around the investigated WPP type are obtained before and after the optimization. The distinctive distributions of the scalar and vector fields at the given parameters of the freestream and rotor spinning are studied. Dependent graphs are plotted against the linear freestream velocity for the projections of the rotor shaft moment (with WPP standard and optimized forms), as well as for the corresponding useful and side powers. A comparison of the power of the optimized WPP under consideration, and analogues, other factors being equal, is made. Discussion and Conclusions. The application perspectiveness of the vertical axis wind turbines with an axisymmetric stator designed to create useful interference with the rotor in order to increase useful shaft power is shown. Such wind power plants meet and exceed, at any rate upon the average, the corresponding classical vertical axis structures

Introduction. There is a performance improvement problem of the existing wind-driven power plants (WPP). It is worthwhile investigating nonclassical types of the WPP to solve it. The most promising are the WPP which use special guide static elements to create vortex structures. The latter contributes to the increased aerodynamic efficiency of the WPP. Materials and Methods . Ansys Workbench and Ansys Fluent software packages are used to calculate the design aerodynamics of the wind turbines. Research Results. On the analysis of the particular publications, the viability of the vortex-type WPP studies in which the additional stator structures are used to increase their energy efficiency, is proved. The aerodynamics analysis of the WPP with “rotor-in-socket” assembly type is carried out using the continuum dynamics computational methods. An advanced WPP design is obtained by the aerodynamic optimization technique. Discussion and Conclusions. The obtained results show that the construction of the vortex-type turbine on the basis of the favourable interference concept of rotor and stator is promising. The specific form of WPP with a vertical axis of rotation, axisymmetric stator and socket of special forms is analyzed. The methods of the aerodynamic optimization of the described WPP design are considered. On the basis of this methodology, an advanced socket form and its assembly with the rotor which allows reaching an average calculated value of the favourable air moment that exceeds more than twofold the corresponding value for the initial geometry of the WPP, are obtained
