The article presents the interpretations of the phrase “in principio” (John 1:1) provided by Albert the Great, Bonaventure and Thomas Aquinas in their commentaries on the Gospel of John. Their approaches are different. Albert uses the concepts of the first principle and of the intellect which acts universally and produces its own light. Bonaventure builds his interpretation on Augustine’s distinction between the beginning without beginning and the beginning from the beginning. Aquinas creates a conceptual framework based on metaphysical theories. All three approaches reflect the metaphysical character of the exegesis of John 1:1 performed by these authors. This metaphysical attitude enables them to use advanced concepts and constitutes a basis for calling their exegesis “analytical.”„In principio”: metafizyczna egzegeza J 1,1 Alberta Wielkiego, Bonawentury i Tomasza z Akwinu Artykuł przedstawia interpretacje słów „in principio” (Jan 1,1) zaproponowane przez Alberta Wielkiego, Bonawenturę i Tomasza z Akwinu w ich komentarzach do Ewangelii wg św. Jana.

2012 - 2013The aim of this Doctoral work is double: (a) to offer the complete edition of three important distinctiones – the second, the third and the eighth – coming from the Sentence Commentary of the Franciscan John of Ripa, who lectured in Paris in the period 1354-1358. These three distinctiones constitute a homogeneous group of questions dealing with the metaphysical issues of the existence and nature of God (immensitas) in its distinction from the nature of created beings (infinitas/finitas), together with the original mechanism called replicatio unitatis divinae which regulates the generation of all created beings [Distinctio 2], the analogy between God and creatures, with the lucid restriction – consciously elaborated after Duns Scotus – of the univocity in the sole created domain [Distinctio 3], and the formal distinction between all the perfectiones originally contained in the divine essence, which do not introduce any form of multiplicity in the Unity of the supersimplex (immensa) divine essence [Distinctio 8]; (b) to offer an elaborated study of the themes present in these distinctiones, not only regarding to Ripa’s thought, but also through the analysis of related philosophical perspectives (Hugolinus of Orvieto, Pierre Ceffons, John of Mirecourt, Francis de Mayronis, Francis of Appignano, Gregory of Rimini and William of Ockham). This duplex intent is reflected in the two volumes which compose this thesis, which aims to discover the thought of a long-time underestimated philosopher. [edited by author]XII n.s

Metafisica della notitia intuitiva: il caso di Giovanni da Ripa. I Sent., Prologus, q. 6

    Get PDF
The present research aims to analyze John of Ripa’s doctrine of the notitia intuitiva. Unlike other philosophies, Ripa’s one has a particular formulation according to which the entire doctrine depends upon his metaphysics. A preliminary survey of his doctrine’s metaphysical structures opens the way to the study of the modalities in which the notitia intuitiva is given, through a comparison with Gregory of Rimini’s and Francis of Marchia’s(?) doctrines. Once the liceity of any object’s notitia intuitiva has been ensured, Ripa focuses on God’s notitia intuitiva, which can be obtained by the analogy which those objects present with the original divine perfections from which they derive

Thermal Noise-Boosting Effects in Hot-Wire-Based Micro Sensors

    Get PDF
This article proposes an original approach aimed at modelling the noise density in sensors based on a single hot wire or pairs of thermally coupled wires. The model consists in an original combination of a previous electrothermal model of the wire with well-established assumptions on the thermal noise in conductors that carry moderate current densities. A simple method for estimating the model parameters with simple impedance spectroscopy is suggested. The predicted power spectral densities of the wire thermal noise differ from the result of previously presented analytical models, stimulating further experimental studies. The effects of the electrothermal feedback of both hot wires and hot-wire pairs on flicker noise is also intrinsically covered by the proposed approach

What Do University or Graduate Students Need to Make the Cut? A Meta-analysis on Career Intervention Effectiveness

    Get PDF
The usefulness of providing career interventions in the transition from university to labour market is more and more advocated, in order to increase young people's competencies about career management and entrepreneurial skills. The present paper aims at focusing on the effectiveness of career interventions for university or graduate students and on its relationship with some study design and intervention characteristics. A meta-analysis was conducted on studies published between 2000 and 2015 which complied with the following inclusion criteria: university or graduate students as target population, the evaluation of specific career-related interventions or programs, and an experimental or quasiexperimental design. The selection procedure resulted in 9 eligible studies – overall assessing 12 interventions – out of 823 examined articles. The results indicated, on average, a large effect (weighted ES = .80; 95% CI = .54, 1.06) better outcomes from socio-constructivist interventions compared to those based on social cognition theory and person-environment fit model, and higher impact on the reduction of career indecision than on the increase of decision-making self-efficacy. Some recommendations for researchers and policy makers are provided, as well as methodological issues and practical implications for career interventions are discussed

This clinical-psychological research explores the Local Culture (emotional meanings shared by people in a given context aimed at maintaining stability and unity as well as regulating emotions affecting cohabitation) of a suburban neighborhood in Rome in the phase of community service planning. The inquiry is based on a computer-assisted text analysis (Emotional Text Analysis) of interviews of 8 key figures, and on the multiple correspondence analysis of questionnaires on the subjective perception of the quality of life and on the expectation of social relationships. The questionnaires have been administered to 314 inhabitants. The results of the analysis of interviews and questionnaires highlighted the quality of life in terms of subjective perception and the specific features of the local culture of the territory considered for this study. Practical solutions are indicated based on the Local Culture of the neighborhood in question. The possible contribution of clinical psychology to geographic, urban, and environmental disciplines is also highlighted. © 2019 The Author(s

Chronic Illness as Loss of Good Self: Underlying Mechanisms Affecting Diabetes Adaptation

    Get PDF
The aim of the present study is to investigate the role of emotional variables in diabetes adaptation. This is in order to develop and test a conceptual model simultaneously involving emotional variables consistent with a conceptual framework looking at chronic illness as a loss of good self. A convenience sample of 59 participants with a diagnosis of type 1 (n= 26) and type 2 (n=33) diabetes mellitus (Mean age= 57.17, SD=16.82) completed measures of diabetes distress, psychological adjustment to diabetes, diabetes self-care (as outcomes of diabetes adaptation) and depression, alexithymia and damaged ego-related strategies (as emotional variables). Correlation analyses among the examined measures were performed; as well, regression analyses were used to test the role of such emotional variables (as potential predictors) in accounting for diabetes adaptation outcomes. The results overall suggest that lower depression and higher mania contribute to diabetes adaption to a statistically significant extent, despite mania not being associated with self-care behaviors. The study raises a controversial debate about the meaningfulness of the psychological process of adjustment to diabetes without considering the role of underlying symbolic and less conscious dynamics

Effort angina in a patient with advanced coronary artery disease. Role played by coronary angiography, Ivus and cardiac CT: case report
