Modular Planar Antenna at X-band for satellite communications

    Get PDF
An antenna which has been conceived as a portable system for satellite communications based on the recommendations ITU-R S.580-6 [1] and ITU-R S.465-5 [2] for small antennas, i.e., with a diameter lower than 50 wavelengths, is introduced. It is a planar and a compact structure with a size of 40×40×2 cm. The antenna is formed by an array of 256 printed elements covering a large bandwidth (14.7%) at X-Band. The specification includes transmission (Tx) and reception (Rx) bands simultaneously. The printed antenna has a radiation pattern with a 3dB beamwidth of 5°, over a 31dBi gain, and a dual and an interchangeable circular polarizatio

“Metamaterials” are artificially engineered structured materials exhibiting novel properties due to their special architecture and not because of the constituent homogeneous materials used to manufacture them. This enables to design new materials with characteristics not available in conventional materials, as a negative refractive index. A new form of excitation for parallel plate slot antennas based in a planar “left handed” lens is proposed in [1]. This excitation allows enhancing the efficiency of these kinds of antennas. The lens is constructed using the well known “mushroom” structure. Here the characterization of the left handed lens with the mushroom structure in terms of their geometrical parameters (lattice constant, diameter of via, height of substrate) is presented using the dispersion diagram of the unit cell. Some simulations results are shown

    Get PDF
Baldomero Sanín Cano is considered one of the main representatives of Contemporary Latin American thinking. Sanín was a prolific writer whose works influenced different fields of essay-writing, journalism, education, politics, and literary criticism. This paper seeks to analyse the ideology of an author who was an advocate of Latin American integration, through his constant opposition to American expansionism in the press. Based on an exploration of his personality, training and political experience, the paper discusses the manifestation of his anti-imperialism in the Spanish media and, in particular, during his time as foreign correspondent in Madrid (1922-1924) for the Argentine newspaper La Nación. It concludes with an analysis of the impact of his proposal to organize an Ibero-American congress in order to form a united front against the Genoa Conference resolutions.

From prejudice to exclusion: reflections on the origins of racial marginalization in latin america.

Racism has traditionally been decisive when legitimating exclusions. Its condition of social, cultural and economic way of domination has allowed presenting Other's inequalities as immovable realities, though not unavoidable, per natura. This has been the way in which discriminatory dogmas has been established in different times and places - in different societies - throughout history. This article is about those dogmas and its impact in the Latin American imagery. This article is based on the work of those authors and personalities who, by means of their relevant acts or transcendence, have resulted in the conformation of this imagery or its opposition.

This paper aims to examine the role of a key figure in Latin-American anti-imperialism, Manuel Baldomero Ugarte, through his collaboration with early 20th century Hispano-Americanism. Based on an analysis of the marginalization this intellectual suffered and his decade- spanning works, the study focuses on his contributions to three of the main pro-Hispano- American journals of the time –La Rábida, Unión Ibero-Americana and Cultura Hispanoamericana– so as to observe the of confluence between this movement and the erudite Argentinean.

The objective of this article is the revision of the figure of Augusto César Sandino and its sociopolitical impact on the Spanish public opinion. Starting from an analysis of the events that drove the figure of the guerrilla leader to the international arena, we will examine the impact of his actions within an interventionist moment as posed by the United States in Central America and the Caribbean in the first decades of the Twentieth century, as well as the reaction of the Spanish-speaking countries regarding the interference of Washington. It will be from the above mentioned context that the repercussion of Sandino on the intellectuality and peninsular media will be addressed, taking as reference the newspapers of the entire ideological arch to confirm how, even from different perspectives - and within a timeframe of just seven years – the Nicaraguan would eventually become a shared icon, but of dissimilar significance.; El objetivo de este artículo es la revisión de la figura de Augusto César Sandino y su impacto sociopolítico en la opinión pública española.
