Gluck twist on a certain family of 2-knots
We show that by performing the Gluck twist along the 2-knot
derived from two ribbon presentations of the ribbon 1-knot we get the
standard 4-sphere . In the proof we apply Kirby calculus.Comment: 11 pages, 12 figure
Sima sokaságok topológiai tulajdonságainak vizsgálata = Topological properties of smooth manifolds
E vizsgálatok során (a) egzotikus differenciálhatĂł struktĂşrákat találtunk kis Euler karakterisztikájĂş nĂ©gysokaságokon, (b) Ozsváth-SzabĂł invariánsok segĂtsĂ©gĂ©vel feszes kontakt struktĂşrákat találtunk olyan háromsokaságokon, melyeken korábban ilyen struktĂşrák nem voltak ismeretesek. A beszámolási idĹ‘szakban több nemzetközi konferenciát, workshopot szerveztĂĽnk a RĂ©nyi IntĂ©zetben: 2003-ban ez a Humbolt alapĂtvány, 2004-ben a Clay Mathematical Institute, 2005-ben az EU TOK támogatását használtuk ezen rendezvĂ©nyek finanszĂrozására. | (1) We have studied the Euler characteristic of the multiple point manifold of a generic immersion of a 2k dimensional manifold into the (2k+1) dimensional Euclidean space. This result concluded a research initiated about 10 years ago. In a paper with T. Ekholm we computed the immersion groups of exotic n-dimensional spheres into Euclidean spaces. This result provided an explanation for a phenomenon noticed in a classical construction by Brieskorn. Finally, we have developed a method for examining secondary obstructions which obstruct eliminations of certain singularities of maps. (2) We got results in the study of topological properties of low dimensional manifolds. More precisely, we have examined what differential topological consequences can one prove from the knowledge of the gauge theoretic invariants of the manifold, and how to determine these invariants. Throughout these studies (a) we have found exotic smooth structures on 4-manifolds with small Euler characteristic, (b) using contact Ozsváth-SzabĂł invariants we found tight contact structures on 3-manifolds on which tight structures were unknown. We have organized a number of conferences/workshops/Summer Schools throughout the research period in the RĂ©nyi Institute: in 2003 the Humboldt Foundation, in 2004 the Clay Mathematical Institute and in 2005 the EU TOK project provided the necessary financial background for helding these international events
Algebrai szingularitások topológiai tulajdonságai = Topological properties of algebraic singularities
A Rácspont KohomolĂłgia normál felĂĽlet szingularitások rezoluciĂłs gráfjainak rácspontszerkezetĂ©hez rendelt modulus. TopolĂłgiai szempontbĂłl kĂĽlönösen Ă©rdekesek a racionális homolĂłgia diszk (QHD) simitásokkal rendelkezĹ‘ szingularitások. Ezeket osztályoztuk Mohan Bhupallal közös dolgozatunkban abban az esetben ha a szingularitás sĂşlyozott homogĂ©n (es igy a rezoluciĂłs gráf csillag alakĂş). HasonlĂł, szimplektikus geometriai Ă©s kombinatorikus ötletek felhasználásával a simitások egyĂ©rtelműsĂ©gĂ©t (szimplektikus deformáciĂł erejĂ©ig) illetve az ezekbĹ‘l a simitásokbĂłl származtathatĂł műtĂ©ti eljárás gyakori szimplektikus voltát láttuk be. Továbbá, Popescu Pampu-val bebizonyĂtottuk Lisca SejtĂ©sĂ©t ami szerint a ciklikus szingularitasok simitásainak Milnor fibrumai megegyeznek a csomĂł (lencse tĂ©r) Stein betöltĂ©seivel. | We developed further the theory of Lattice Cohomology associated with the lattice of the resolution graph of normal surface singularities. We prove similar exact sequences which were already established by the modules of Heegaard Floer Theory. It is important to study the smoothings of complex surface singularities. Singularities admitting rational homology disk smoothings are of particular interest. We classified such singularities with Bhupal, provided the singularity is weighted homogeneous (and so its resolution graph is star-shaped). Applying similar ides of symplectic geometry and combinatorics we verified the uniqueness of the smoothings (up to symplectic deformation) and showed that the surgery constructions originated from the existence of these smoothing in many case falls into the symplectic category. Furthermore, with Popescu Pampu, we proved Lisca's Conjecture: the set of different Milnor fibers associated with all the smoothing components of a cyclic quotient singularity coincides with the set of all Stein fillings of the link. This is partially generalized to sandwiched singularities as well. The Monodormy Conjecture of Igusa-Denef-Loeser is one of the most mysterious conjectures of singularity theory. In collaboration with Veys we proved its extended version for plane curves and germs defined on normal surface singularities which satisfy (the generalized) Neumann-Wahl semigroup condition
On the ÎĽ invariant of rational surface singularities
We show that for rational surface singularities with odd deter-
minant the ÎĽ invariant defined by W. Neumann is an obstruction for the
link of the singularity to bound a rational homology 4–ball. We identify
the ÎĽ invariant with the corresponding correction term in Heegaard Floer
theory
