Today we travel increasingly more and increasingly longer both privately and everyday. Our expanded geographical movement pattern has reduced the number of local labor markets. An increasingly interconnected region provides opportunities for people to live in the smaller town and still have access to several labor markets in different municipalities. It is therefore of utmost importance that planning for sustainable travel is highlighted. By starting from the existing structure and ensuring that more station locations are developed into good and safe living environments, we can promote sustainable urban development. Efficient land use of station areas is of great importance for people's transport choices. The purpose of this thesis is to produce a plan proposal for Häljarp's station area based on the current conditions. The motive for the development is the station close location which benefits a sustainable society. The plan proposal must be designed so that the station area is connected with the rest of the village at the same time as a sustainable built environment is achieved. With the help of literature and document studies, planning of areas close to the station as well as sustainable buildings been studied and analysed. The basic features of the plan proposal are based on an exploitation in the northern part with a building structure that opens up towards the landscape and gets denser to the railway track. Closest to the railway track, the buildings are a little higher and consists of mixed functions to create an urban feeling. The buildings are then of a gradually decreasing height the closer you get to Saxån The buildings of the new station area are connected to the existing village through "Lyckostråket". The passage leads over Saxån and connects to the existing village in the center at ICA. It is a wide strip that with its integrated greenery and living spaces is inspired by the high line in New York. The plan proposal is presented through an illustration plan, sections and illustration images at the end of the thesis

Stick–slip motion and controlled filling speed by the geometric design of soft micro-channels

HypothesisLiquid can move by capillary action through interconnected porous materials, as in fabric or paper towels. Today mass transport is controlled by chemical modification. It is, however, possible to direct mass transport by geometrical modifications. It is here proposed that it is possible to tailor capillary flow speed in a model system of micro-channels by the angle, size and position of attached side channels.ExperimentsA flexible, rapid, and cost-effective method is used to produce micro-channels in gels. It involves 3D-printed moulds in which gels are cast. Open channels of micrometre size with several side channels on either one or two sides are produced with tilting angles of 10 – 170\ub0. On a horizontal plane the meniscus of water driven by surface tension is tracked in the main channel.FindingsThe presence of side channels on one side slowed down the speed of the meniscus in the main channel least. Channels having side channels on both sides with tilting angles of up to 30\ub0 indicated tremendously slower flow, and the liquid exhibited a stick-slip motion. Broader side channels decreased the speed more than thinner ones, as suggested by the hypothesis. Inertial forces are suggested to be important in branched channel systems studied here

Fyra undersökningspersoner intervjuades i denna kvalitativa studie.

Unpacking the digitalisation of public services: Configuring work during automation in local government

The digitalisation of public services involves not only the transformation of the relationship between public service providers and clients, but also the transformation of public administration work. While most studies of digitalisation of the public sector have focused on the practical outcomes for the quality of public services and the quality of public administration work, none have unpacked , or theorised, how these changes actually come about in practice. This paper fills this gap by drawing on a study of the in-house adaptation of a digital automation tool (an RPA) by a Swedish local authority. In the article, we pay attention to what we, inspired by Donna Haraway and Lucy Suchman, call ‘configuring work’, i.e. the weaving together of the affordances of the technology, materials, discourses, roles and power structures. The contribution of the paper is two-fold. First, the paper demonstrates empirically how the digitalisation of a public service took place through an emergent, relational process that involved both the social and the material. Second, by adopting the the idea of ‘configuring work’ and paying attention to the effects of this, we show that the digitalisation process was successively shaped by the particular vested interests, ethics, discourses and the algorithmic materialities that comprised it. This helps us discuss the reason for why, in extant literature, digitalisation threatens the professional autonomy of the public administrators as well as why it may reduce service quality. Finally, we suggest how some of these issues may be addressed in future research

Recirculation of NOx and SOx Scrubber Effluent to an Industrial Grate Fired MSW Boiler - Influence on Combustion Performance, Deposition Behavior, and Flue Gas Composition

The concept of scrubber effluent recirculation has recently received attention in connection to NOx emission control. Here, we present data from an industrial-scale MSW-fired plant, where effluent from a combined NOx and SOx scrubber was recirculated and injected into a grate-fired boiler. The combustion characteristics were carefully studied during the injections to observe the potential effects on burnout and flue gas composition. In addition, deposition measurements were performed to observe effects on growth rate and chemical composition of deposits, which are critical factors for any solid fuel-fired heat and power plant. The recirculation of the nitrogen-rich waste streams was performed via pre-existing liquid injection equipment, and the results show that the N-containing compounds in the scrubber effluent were efficaciously reduced to inert nitrogen gas. Furthermore, the recirculation of the scrubber effluent may reduce ammonia demand for selective non-catalytic reduction systems by inhibiting the formation of ammonium chloride. Sulfur and alkali components in the effluent increased the deposition growth rate and also changed the chemical composition of the deposits. Understanding how the local conditions at the injection point influence the distribution and speciation of the injected compounds is essential for a successful recirculation strategy

The impact of interfaces in laminated packaging on transport of carboxylic acids

The permeability of oleic and acetic acid through low density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene acrylic acid (EAA) have been measured using diffusion cells. In addition, the permeability through combinations of LDPE and EAA in the form of laminates with different numbers of layers has been determined. Oleic acid shows an almost 30 times higher permeability compared to acetic acid, which was partly explained by the adsorption of oleic acid to the film surface during the permeability experiment. In addition, the permeability is lower for both oleic and acetic acid in the laminates compared to the pure films. The decreased permeability can be explained by the presence of crystalline domains close to the interface. This is supported by SAXS data which suggests an ordering of polymer chains in the EAA film close to the interface. In summary, the results show that it is possible to create barrier materials with decreased permeability, which is interesting for example in the packaging industry. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V.
