Notícias sobre a África : representações do continente africano na revista Veja (1991-2006)

38 p. : il.O presente artigo possui como objetivo maior analisar algumas das principais representações elaboradas sobre o continente africano nas páginas das edições da revista Veja, que circularam entre os anos de 1991 e 2006. Apesar de partirmos do princípio de que as peças jornalísticas não explicam ou sintetizam todas as perspectivas mentais construídas acerca do continente e muito menos refletem os heterogêneos olhares lançados sobre os africanos e sobre suas realidades, observamos, em uma parte significativa das matérias, um movimento sincrônico entre as imagens reproduzidas na mídia contemporânea e os cenários mentais circulantes sobre a África. No entanto, apesar das impregnações de determinados sentidos, localizamos também a existência de um complexo e diferenciado conjunto de representações geradas sobre a África, visões discordantes do imaginário coletivo existente, que, de alguma forma, aponta para a existência de leituras mais equilibradas e fundamentadas sobre o assunto. ______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThis article has as main intention to establish a dialogue between representatives elaborated on the African continent in the pages of the magazine Veja and the collective imagination of the contemporary Brazilian Africa. Despite assume that the pieces reporters analyzed not explain, or synthesize dimensioned all perspectives mentally prepared on the continent and much less reflect the heterogeneous eyes launched on the African and about its realities, we observed a movement synchronic between the images reproduced in Media and mental scenarios circulating about Africa. On the departure locate a complex and differentiated set of representations and ideas generated on Africa, discordant views of existing collective imaginary, and that in any way points to the existence of more balanced and reasoned readings on the subject

18 p.As imagens que povoam os cenários mentais dos estudantes brasileiros e portugueses sobre a África e os africanos foram construídas tanto por suas experiências de vida como pelas cenas que diariamente lhes são apresentadas pelos mais diversos meios de comunicação visual. O presente artigo objetiva identificar se parte da produção de livros escolares de História utilizados nas escolas da educação básica nesses espaços atlânticos contribuiu, de forma significativa ou não, para a construção de uma leitura mais adequada acerca daquele continente ou de suas trajetórias históricas. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe images that are found in imaginary scenarios of Brazilian and Portuguese students about Africa and africans were built both by their life experiences as the scenes which are daily presented to them by various means of visual communication. This paper aims to identify whether History textbooks used in schools of basic education in these Atlantic areas contributes significantly or not to build a better read on that continent or on their historical trajectories

A história africana nas escolas brasileiras : entre o prescrito e o vivido, da legislação educacional aos olhares dos especialistas (1995-2006)

30 p.O presente artigo possui como intenção principal estabelecer um diálogo entre a legislação brasileira acerca do ensino da história africana e as leituras e opiniões formuladas por alguns africanistas sobre a temática. Sendo assim, buscamos na primeira parte do texto mapear a presença dos estudos africanos nos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais, na Lei 10639/03 e nas diretrizes formuladas para permitir sua implementação. Na segunda parte de nosso exercício a perspectiva foi a de observar como historiadores, antropólogos e demais especialistas analisaram a abordagem da história africana em nossos bancos escolares nos últimos dez anos. O resultado do diálogo revela que, apesar das indicações encontradas em parte da legislação educacional brasileira, uma longa lacuna se apresenta quando o assunto a ser tratado nas salas de aula envolve temas africanos. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThis article has as main intention to establish a dialogue between the Brazilian legislation on the teaching of African history and the readings and opinions expressed by some africanists on the subject. Therefore, we sought in the first part of the text mapping the presence of African studies in the National Curricular Parameters, in Law 0639/03 and the guidelines formulated to allow its implementation. In the second part of our exercise was to the prospect of watching how historians, anthropologists and other experts examined the approach of African history in our school banks in the last ten years. The outcome of the dialogue shows that, despite indications found in the Brazilian educational legislation, a long gap when it presents itself to be treated in classrooms involves African issues

41 p. : il.A aprovação da lei 10639/03, que tornou obrigatório o ensino da História da África e dos afrodescendentes, gerou nos meios escolares e acadêmicos algumas inquietações e muitas dúvidas. Como ensinar o que não se conhece? Para além das interrogações, a lei revela algo que os especialistas em História da África vêm alertando há certo tempo: “esquecemos” de estudar o Continente africano. A partir dessas constatações, o presente artigo tem como objetivo maior analisar a forma como a História da África e os africanos foram representados em um dos poucos livros didáticos de História elaborados no país que abordam a África com um capítulo específico. As muitas críticas e curtos elogios devem ser entendidos não como desconsideração ao trabalho do autor, mas como um alerta: devemos voltar nossos olhares para a África, pela sua relevância incontestável como palco das ações humanas e pelas profundas relações que guardamos com aquele Continente por meio do mundo chamado Atlântico. __________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe approval of the 10639/03 law, which made compulsory the teaching of African and African-descendants history, has brought some uneasiness and many questions to the academic sphere. How is it possible to teach something we do not know? Besides this questioning, the law comes up with something that African history specialists have been warning us for a long time: we “forgot” to study the African continent. Beginning from these facts, the article’s objective is to analyze how the African history and the Africans have been represented in the very few history books, made in Brazil, in which the African theme is brought up in a specific chapter. The many critics and short complements towards these books, should not be interpreted as lack of consideration to the authors’ work, but as an alert: we have to turn our attention to Africa, considering its unquestionable relevance as a stage to human actions and because of the deep relations we have with that continent through the Atlantic. __________________________________________________________________________________________ RÉSUMÉL’adoption de la loi 10639/03, qui a rendu obligatoire l’enseignement de l’Histoire de l’Afrique et des afro-descendants, a suscité quelques inquiétudes dans les milieux scolaires et académiques ainsi que bien de doutes. Comment enseigner ce que l’on ne connaît pas ? En plus de toutes ces interrogations, la loi révèle quelque chose dont les spécialistes enHistoire de l’Afrique se soucient depuis un certain temps : on a simplement “oublié” d’étudier le continent africain. C’est à partir de ces constatations que cet article a pour objectif majeur d’étudier comment l’Histoire de l’Afrique et les Africains ont été représentés dans l’un des seuls livres didactiques d’Histoire fait au Brésil et qui aborde l’Afrique dans un chapitre spécifique. Toutes les critiques et les brefs éloges doivent être compris comme une mise en garde plutôt que comme un manque de respect pour le travail de l’auteur. En effet, on doit regarder l’Afrique à cause de son importance majeure comme une scène pour des actions humaines et aussi à cause des rapports intenses que l’on garde avec ce continent, à travers ce que l’on nomme le monde Atlantique

L’histoire africaine dans les cours de formation de professeurs : panorama, perspectives et experiences

Vivenciamos nos últimos anos um importante debate acerca do ensino da História da África. Acadêmicos, professores, alunos e intelectuais participaram, em vários espaços, de experiências bem-sucedidas. Também é clara a tendência de que o reconhecimento das inestimáveis participações dos africanos na formação do patrimônio histórico e cultural da humanidade e da sociedade brasileira passe por uma expansão nos diversos segmentos da educação. Porém, apesar dos dados favoráveis, ao realizarmos um balanço das medidas que já deveriam ter sido am¬plamente concretizadas para possibilitar a qualificação de professores em estudos africanos, percebemos que muito ainda está por ser feito. Entre as iniciativas existentes, algumas deveriam ser reforçadas: o aumento das pesquisas sobre a história da África; o incentivo às novas publicações e traduções; a introdução de disciplinas específicas nas licenciaturas; a oferta de cursos de pós-graduação; e a modificação dos livros didáticos. No entanto, esses esforços dependem da formação de pessoal qualificado, tanto dos professores (doutores e mestres) que atuam no Ensino Superior, como dos que exercem a docência nos Ensinos Fundamental e Médio. A partir dessa conjuntura, o presente artigo procurou construir um panorama do atual estágio do ensino da história africana nos cursos de Licenciatura em História, além de apresentar uma experiência vivenciada com alunos de graduação. Dessa forma, pensamos contribuir duplamente, para a visualização dos problemas e para a construção de soluções. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTAcademics, teachers, students and intellectuals participate, in some spaces, of well-succeeded experiences concerning the education of History of Africa. The recognition of the inestimable participation of the Africans in the formation of the historic and cultural patrimony of the humanity and of the Brazilian society passes for an expansion in many segments of the education. For the qualification of teachers in African studies, some initiatives would have to be strengthened: to increase the research on History of Africa; to incentive new publications and translations; to introduce specific disciplines in bachelor degree; to increase post-graduation courses; and to make changes in the textbooks. The present article tries to construct a panorama of the current stage of the teach of History of Africa in bachelor degrees in History, presenting an experience lived deeply with graduation students. Therefore, the author thinks to contribute doubly for the visualization of the problems and the construction of solutions. ___________________________________________________________________________________ RÉSUMÉUniversitaires, professeurs, étudiants et intellectuels participent, dans plusieurs espaces, d’expériences réussies relatives à l’enseignement de l’Histoire de l’Afrique. La reconnaissance des inestimables participations des africains à la formation des patrimoines historiques et culturels de l’humanité et de la société brésilienne, passe par une expansion dans les divers seguements de l’éducation. Pour la qualification de professeurs em études africaines, plusieurs initiatives deveraient être renforcées: augmentation des recherches sur l’Histoire de l’Afrique; aides à de nouvelles publications et traductions, introduction de disciplines spécifiques dans les programmes de Licences, offre de cours de spécialisation, et modification des livres didactiques. Cet article a cherché à construir un panorama de l’actuel stage de l’enseignement de l’Histoire africaine dans les cours de Licence en Histoire, en plus de présenter une expérience vécue avec des élèves en faculté. De cette manière l’auteur pense contribuer doublement : à l’éclairage des problèmes et à la construction de solutions

L’invention des yorubas em Afrique Occidentale : réflexions et notes au sujet du rôle de l’histoire et de la tradition orale dans la construction de l’identité ethnique

De acordo com os especialistas na história da África Ocidental, seria na passagem do século XVIII para o XIX que apareceriam os primeiros indícios da construção de uma identidade em comum entre os iorubás. É evidente que muitas características das populações da área florestal do Golfo da Guiné eram compartilhadas há muito tempo. Porém, o ato de se reconhecer e ser reconhecido como iorubá só pode ser encontrado no final dos setecentos. A partir da revisão da ampla literatura existente sobre o tema, o presente artigo se propõe a discutir os seguintes pontos desse processo de invenção identitária: acreditamos que para além dos eventos dos séculos XVIII e XIX, outros espaços temporais e físicos participaram da formação dos iorubás na África Ocidental; a tradição oral dos diversos grupos e reinos da região nos permite, a partir da articulação com as pesquisas arqueológicas, lingüísticas e históricas, reconstruir parte dessa trajetória; que é possível, para o caso em análise, fazer uso dos debates e critérios teóricos de definição de identidade étnica comuns às Ciências Sociais para o entendimento da invenção da identidade iorubá; e, por fim, identificar as influências históricas dos eventos que marcaram a área durante os séculos XVIII e XIX na invenção dessa identidade. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTAccording to experts in West Africa history, the turn from XVIIIth to the XIXth centuries brought up the first evidences of the construction of a common identity among Iorubás. It’s obvious that many characteristics of the populations of the Guinea Gulf ’s forest areas were shared for a long time, but the act to recognize itself and to be reconized as an Iorubá only could be found in the late XVIIIth’s. From this point of view on, the present article will discuss the following issues of this process of identity creation: the author believes that beyond the events of the XVIII and XIX centuries, other temporal and physic spaces contributed to the formation of the West Africa’s iorubás; the oral tradition of many groups and kingdoms of the region allows to reconstruct a piece of this trajectory articulating anthropological, linguistic and historical researches; that it is possible, in this case, to use Social Sciences’ theoretical and criterial discussions of the definition of ethnical identity to understand the invention of the iorubá identity; and, to identify the historical influences of the events that have played important roles in the invention of this identity in the area of Guinea Gulf at that time. ___________________________________________________________________________________ RÉSUMÉSelon les spécialistes en histoire de l’Afrique Occidentale ce serait au tournant des XVIII – XIXeme siècles qu’apparaitraient les premiers índices de la construction d’une identité commune à tous les yorubas. Il est évident que beaucoup des caractéristiques des populations de la région forestière du Golf de Guinée étaient partagées depuis três longtemps. Néanmoins, l’acte de se reconnaitre et d’être reconnu comme yioruba ne se rencontre qu’à la fin du dix huitième siècle. Basé sur la révision de l’ample littérature existente sur le thème, le présent article se propose de discuter les points suivants de ce processus d’invention identitaire: nous croyons que au-dela des évènements des XVIIIeme et XIXeme siècles, d’autres espaces temporels et physiques ont participé à la formation des yorubas en Afrique Occidentale ; la tradition orale des divers groupes et royaumes de la région nous permet, à partir de leur articulation avec les recherches archéologiques, linguistiques et historiques de reconstruir une partie de cette trajectoire; qu’il est possible, dans le cas ici analysé, de faire usage des débats et critères théoriques de la définition de l’identité ethnique commune aux Sciences Sociales pour la compréhension de l’invention de l’identité yoruba ; et, finalement, identifier les influênces historiques des évènements qui ont marqué la région durant les XVIIIeme et XIXeme dans l’invention de cette identité

Leituras sobre a África contemporânea : representações e abordagens do continente africano nos livros didáticos de História

11 p. : il.O tratamento concedido a história da África Contemporânea nos livros didáticos de 5ª a 8ª série é o objeto principal do presente artigo. O enfoque eleito e as questões levantadas articulam-se em torno de uma reflexão central: o quanto os textos, imagens e interpretações apresentadas pelos livros escolares divergem ou convergem em relação ao chamado imaginário brasileiro construído sobre a África e os africanos. Observamos a existência de uma análise superficial das trajetórias recentes dos países e sociedades africanas e uma repetição das representações e estereótipos divulgados sobre o continente. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe treatment given to history of Contemporary Africa in textbooks of 5 th to 8 th grade is the main subject of this article. The focus elected and the issues raised are articulated around a central consideration: how the texts, images and interpretations made by school books diverge or converge in relation to the so-called imaginary Brazilian built on Africa and the Africans. As a general framework it is a superficial analysis of the recent trajectories of the countries in African societies in a repeat of representations and stereotypes disclosed on the continent
