The study aimed to propose experiences in nature to the students of the Final Years of a state school in the city of Arvorezinha / RS, analyzing their importance in this context. This research is characterized as qualitative and for applying these experiences we used the method for Sequential Learning Environmental Education (CORNEL, 2008). Three experiences were held with nature, an interview with the school board and questionnaires with 17 students participating. Students photographed and wrote field diaries to record practices. It was concluded that the school visit annually natural environments and work the cross-cutting theme Environment in the form of projects, however the main promoter of these is the discipline of Sciences. Regarding the meanings of experiences emerged feelings of joy, fear and also contacted change in the relationship with nature

On pro-p Cappitt groups with finite exponent

A pro-p Cappitt group is a pro-p group G such that the subgroup topologically generated by all non-normal closed subgroups is a proper subgroup of G. In this paper we prove that non-abelian pro-p Cappitt groups whose torsion subgroup is closed has finite exponent. We also prove that in a pro-p Cappitt group its subgroup commutator is a procyclic central subgroup. Finally we show that pro-2 Cappitt groups of exponent 4 are pro-2 Dedekind groups. These results are pro-p versions of the generalized Dedekind groups studied by Cappitt

Discriminação baseada no peso: representações sociais de internautas sobre a gordofobia

The concept of fat phobia has been usually used to define ways of discrimination towards overweight bodies. The present work aimed to know the social representations of fat phobia elaborated by internet users. A documental research was conducted based on internet comments on an article about fat phobia published by the Superinteressante magazine. Selected opinions comprised a textual corpus which was submitted to a lexical analysis through IRAMUTEQ, revealing five thematic classes: (i) "Health as discourse to justify discrimination", (ii) "Fat versus Slim: instituting differences", (iii) "Weight loss: reinforcement versus deconstruction of the standard", (iv) "Fat phobia: invention or reality?" and (v) "Fat phobia and the (in)appropriateness of affirmative actions". Anchored on the technical and scientific argument which affirms that obesity is an epidemic disease, the representations of internet users legitimized discrimination and prejudice processes against overweight people. Moreover, ironic propositions against quota policy for overweight people showed a dissatisfaction about the existence of affirmative actions that promote equality among social groups, ratifying the idea that the privileges cannot be granted to “inferior groups” or depreciated groups, and these groups, in order to be respected by society, should try to fit their bodies into the refined standard. In this context, aiming to make fat phobia an irrelevant topic, disqualifying the magazine’s approach on this topic, representational strategies directed to deny its existence by comparing suffering between groups or setting differences (fats x thins) was observed. Considering the lack of researches about discrimination against overweight in Brazil, other studies on this topic are suggested

Orthosympletic Hamiltonians derived from representations of the Temperley-Lieb algebra are presented and solved via the coordinate Bethe Ansatz. The spectra of these Hamiltonians are obtained using open and closed boundary conditions.Comment: 39 pages, LaTe

Applications of the Abelian Vortex Model to Cosmic Strings and the Universe Evolution

Due to the wide range of applications and effects of the Abelian vortex model of Nielsen and Olesen in the many areas of physics, ranging from condensed matter to astrophysical effects, some work in the literature is necessary to approach this topic in a succinct form that the undergraduate student in both physics and related areas has the possibility to know and understand. The mechanisms associated with this vortex model indicate him as a strong candidate for the source for the topological defects proposed by Vilenkin

Stabilizing the Complex Structure in Heterotic Calabi-Yau Vacua

In this paper, we show that the presence of gauge fields in heterotic Calabi-Yau compacitifications causes the stabilisation of some, or all, of the complex structure moduli of the Calabi-Yau manifold while maintaining a Minkowski vacuum. Certain deformations of the Calabi-Yau complex structure, with all other moduli held fixed, can lead to the gauge bundle becoming non-holomorphic and, hence, non-supersymmetric. This leads to an F-term potential which stabilizes the corresponding complex structure moduli. We use 10- and 4-dimensional field theory arguments as well as a derivation based purely on algebraic geometry to show that this picture is indeed correct. An explicit example is presented in which a large subset of complex structure moduli is fixed. We demonstrate that this type of theory can serve as the hidden sector in heterotic vacua and can co-exist with realistic particle physics.Comment: 17 pages, Late
