The Final Remnant of Binary Black Hole Mergers: Multipolar Analysis

Methods are presented to define and compute source multipoles of dynamical horizons in numerical relativity codes, extending previous work from the isolated and dynamical horizon formalisms in a manner that allows for the consideration of horizons that are not axisymmetric. These methods are then applied to a binary black hole merger simulation, providing evidence that the final remnant is a Kerr black hole, both through the (spatially) gauge-invariant recovery of the geometry of the apparent horizon, and through a detailed extraction of quasinormal ringing modes directly from the strong-field region.Comment: 12 pages, 13 figures. Published version. Some references have been added and reordered, and the figures cleaned up

Curculionoidea of southern Florida: An annotated checklist (Coleoptera: Curculionoidea [excluding Curculionidae; Scolytinae, Platypodinae])

The fauna of Curculionoidea (exclusive of the subfamilies Scolytinae and Platypodinae of the Curculionidae) is surveyed for Dade and Monroe Counties in southern Florida. Numbers of genera and species represented are as follows: Anthribidae (12 genera, 22 species), Belidae (1 genus, 2 species), Attelabidae (3 genera, 3 species), Brentidae (6 genera, 14 species) and Curculionidae (115 genera, 249 species). No Nemonychidae are recorded from southern Florida. Included in the totals are 26 species considered as introduced to the region and 5 species likely not established in the region. Twenty apparently undescribed species are recorded. Fifteen are assignable to genera as follows; Ormiscus (2) (Anthribidae), and Podapion (1) (Brentidae), and Prosaldius (1), Acalles (6), Calles (1), Zascelis (1), Notolomus (1), Lixus (1), and Conotmchelus (1) (Curculionidae). The generic placement of 5 undescribed species of Curculionidae is uncertain and descriptions of new genera may be required. New generic records for the United States of America are Homocloeus Jordan (Anthribidae), and Stenotrupis Wollaston (Curculionidae; Cossoninae) and Heilus Kuschel (Curculionidae; Curculioninae). New species records for the United States are Homocloeus distentm Frieser and Homochw sexverrucatm (Suffrian) (Anthribidae) and Stenotrupis acicula Wollaston, Caulophilus rufotestuceus (Champion), Minominus minimus (Boheman) (Curculionidae; Cossoninae), and Anthonomus rubricosus Boheman and Heilus bioculatus (Boheman) (Curculionidae; Curculioninae). Particularly well-represented in terms of species diversity is the anthribid genus Ormiscus (6), the brentid genus Apion (9) and the curculionid genera Listronotus (21), Anthonomus (14), Acalles (13), Conotrachelus (11), Tyloderma (10) and Sphenophorus (10)

A second species of the genus \u3ci\u3eErebaces\u3c/i\u3e Pascoe, 1871 (Curculionidae: Molytinae: Cryptorhynchini) from the Philippines

Erebaces woodruffi Anderson, new species (Curculionidae: Molytinae: Cryptorhynchini), from Palawan (Philippines) is described and illustrated. This is the second species of the genus Erebaces Pascoe described from the Philippines. It can be separated from Erebaces kidapawanus Pancini by the pair of divergent dorsal pale-scaled lines on the pronotum extended onto the elytra and by the form of the elytral tubercles. The genus Erebaces Pascoe, 1871 was recently recorded in the Philippines based on the presence of E. kidapawanus Pancini, 2021 from Mindanao. The genus is easily recognized by the eyes finely faceted, protruding (toothed) elytral humeri, the deep rostral canal extended to the hind margin of the mesocoxae, and the first ventrite placed on a much lower level (when viewed laterally) than the other ventrites (Zimmerman 1974; Pancini 2021). Here I describe a second species of the genus based on a single female specimen from Palawan

INSURANCE Authorization and General Requirements for Transaction of Insurance: Establish New Procedures to Ensure the Financial Stability of Insurance Companies

The Act Expands the power of the Insurance Commissioner to suspend the certificate of authority of an insurance company. The Act requires that insurers authorized to operate in Georgia file certain documents with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Requirements controlling the manner in which insurers may reinsure their risks are amended. Insurance holding companies may not enter into major transactions without giving notice to the Commissioner, subject to her disapproval. Power is given to the Commissioner to prevent the acquisition of an insurer in a manner that would lessen competition among insurers in Georgia. The Act amends the procedures for the reorganization and liquidation of insurers. Regulation of nonemployee agents of insurers is established, including required elements of the contracts governing such agency; penalties for violations of those requirements are provided. The Act provides for the regulation of insurers controlled by producer agents and for regulation of reinsurance intermediaries

A Tension Shell Structure for Application to Entry Vehicles

The shape of a shell of revolution designed t o have only tensile stresses under axisymmetric aerodynamic loadings has been derived on the basis of linear membrane theory. values of circumferential tension is also given. The results of this paper indicate that the design of an entry vehicle based on the tension shell concept leads to desirable aerodynamic and structural characteristics, namely, high drag and low weight

Finding Unexpected Beetles in Odd Places: Archicorynus kuscheli Anderson and Marvaldi, a New Genus and Species Representing a New Tribe, Archicorynini, of Oxycoryninae (Coleoptera: Belidae) from Nicaragua

Archicorynus Anderson and Marvaldi, new genus, and its type species, Archicorynus kuscheli Anderson and Marvaldi, new species, are described from Reserva Natural Cerro Musún, Nicaragua. Adults were collected from small dead twigs. A cladistic analysis of 71 adult morphological and three biological characters identified Archicorynus as the sister group to all remaining extant Oxycoryninae, necessitating recognition of a new tribe, Archicorynini Anderson and Marvaldi.Fil: Anderson, Robert S..
