Abnormal Returns in Privatization Public Offerings: The case of Portuguese firms
This paper provides evidence on abnormal returns of Portuguese privatization public offerings for the period from 1989 to 2001. This study explores the abnormal performance of a comprehensive sample of Portuguese privatization transactions and investigates the determinants of the observed price behavior. We find some evidence of the underpricing phenomenon for privatized offerings but initial returns are low and barely significant. The results show further that privatization IPOs underperform private sector IPOs. In the long run, we observe negative abnormal returns. While in early event months, privatization public offerings yield more negative returns than private sector offerings, this effect is reversed in longer horizon periods. Initial underpricing is thus partially reversed and investors seem to require higher returns in partial privatizations.

Goddess or countertop dancer: mythological female figures in Margaret Atwood's Morning in the burned house
Abnormal Returns in Privatization Public Offerings: The Case of Portuguese Firms
This paper provides evidence on abnormal returns of Portuguese privatization public offerings for the period from 1989 to 2001. Previous empirical studies report the existence of underpricing for privatized firms in the short-run and positive abnormal returns in the long run. This study explores the abnormal performance of a comprehensive sample of Portuguese privatization transactions and investigates the determinants of the observed price behavior. Our results are not supportive of the underpricing phenomenon except if we exclude the very extreme observations. The results show further that privatization IPOs underperform private sector IPOs. In the long run, we observe negative abnormal returns. While in early event months, privatization public offerings yield more negative returns than private sector offerings, this effect is reversed in longer horizon periods. Initial underpricing is thus reversed and investors seem to require higher returns in partial privatizations
Efeitos de um programa de educação sexual para pessoas com incapacidade intelectual
Introduction: The person with intellectual disability is in a vulnerable situation, namely with regard to affections and sexuality. Generally, these people have precarious knowledge about sexuality, and their sexual education is insufficient or inadequate to their characteristics and needs, and it is essential for nurses to intervene in the field of sexual education with this population. The implementation of health literacy programmes aimed at people with intellectual disability, within the scope of sexuality, using inclusive strategies, can contribute to the development of healthy and safe relationships. Objetive: To assess the effects of a sex education programme on a sample of people with intellectual disabilities. Methods: Action-research developed in four cycles, between 2011 and 2015, in an institution to support people with intellectual disabilities. Results: In the first cycle, sex education was identified as a priority, and in the last one a sex education programme was implemented and its effects evaluated with the SexKen-ID scale, with improvements in the participants' knowledge being noted. Conclusion: The results of this study revealed the importance of sex education for people with intellectual disabilities and a better knowledge attainment over all the topics, when using homogeneous groups, adapted discourse and interactive strategies such as gamification. The promotion of a dynamic and reflective environment, promoted learning and experiences sharing.Introdução: A pessoa com incapacidade intelectual encontra-se em situação de vulnerabilidade, nomeadamente no que diz respeito aos afetos e à sexualidade. students the flexibility to learn at any time and any place. With all this instructional changes instructors,
in all levels of the educational chain have been compelled to adapt quickly to this reality. They have a
wide diversity of tools available to grab student’s attention and motivate them to embrace the
knowledge in their own learning process. One of these resources is the use of videos. Through them
lecturers can deliver complex information and contents to students and, if used creatively, videos can
become a powerful technological tool in education. In this article we will explore some of the potential
benefits and challenges associated with the use of videos in the teaching and learning process at
higher education levels.
We will also discuss some thoughts and examples for the use of teaching materials to enhance
student’s learning and try to change ideas about the potentialities and future of video’s annotation new

Interpretation, history and heritage tourism: Evidences from Lamego cathedrals’ pórtico
This study aims to show the approximation between the training of History and Tourism. A multidisciplinary team has researched the intersections between these scientific areas in an historic city in the north of Portugal (city of Lamego ). Was created an interpretive speech for the Pórtico of one of the most emblematic monuments of this historic city (Cathedral) and in-depth interviews were applied to 15 visitors.
We conclude that the interpretation of the historic resources allows the construction of a patrimonial tourist product. Through closer link between the historical discourse, interpretation and tourism is possible to create a differentiation of the patrimonial product making it a unique product and thus more attractive to the various segments.
In the construction of the discourses of the patrimonial elements, having as an end the presentation for the potential visitors, we discovered that both the historic and the touristic discourses have similarities, differing, mostly, in the language type that is used. Teaching history deposits in the narrative construction an opportunity to cultivate the history training of the students, in order to achieve historic consciousness. The narratives carved by tourism do not deny the historic ones, but their intention passes by the aggregation of modern values and interpretations that differentiate the heritage.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
A New horizon for online teaching and learning
The Polytechnic Institute of Oporto (IPP), which has a solid history of online education and innovation through the use of technology, has been particularly interested and focused on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) developments. The aim of this paper is to present the whole process from initial discussions to completion of the “Mathematics Without Limits” MOOC Project that exists in IPP and also to contribute for a change in the way as teaching and learning Mathematics is seen and practiced nowadays. In 2013, IPP developed its own platform, which gave us the opportunity to explore new educational techniques as a pedagogical resource as well as to enhance students’ motivation, through a set of interactive materials at their disposal, totally adapted to their needs. Students lack of motivation is mainly justified by their weak Math preparation, poor consolidated basis on the subject and different backgrounds of the students. To tackle this issue and based on our Math online courses teaching experience, we decided to create short duration MOOC, expecting to aid retention of students and also to reverse the path of students giving up on Math by giving them a friendly way of managing their own learning commitment. We also think that this MOOC will be a good approach to level out some math skills among freshmen.IPP/ISCAP - CIC
Exploring the relationship between the length of stay and various determinants at one of the best european destinations
Studies scrutinizing the tangible and intangible factors regarding the length of stay (LOS) in a destination are rare. The emotional factors have not always been integrated into this analysis. We have contributed to fill this gap in the literature considering the degree of happiness with the tourist destination. We used a sample of 1253 tourists and three regression models were estimated (OLS regression model, a Weibull survival model and a zero-truncated negative binomial) to study the LOS. We verified that the emotional factor related with happiness affects the LOS. Furthermore, regarding the managerial/practical implications it is important to highlight that the tourists who intend to visit the city have gastronomic and wine experiences, and, through their contact with the cultural heritage of the city, they will stay for a longer period of time. In addition to economic factors, as expenditures, there are also emotional and experiential aspects that influence LOS and these have to be included in the communication of a tourist destination. The attributes of a destination are not enough to influence the LOS. The destination must also be a set of experiences that will increase the happiness of the tourist with the destination.B913-0565-0908 | Elvira VieiraN/
Gastronomic experiences on tourist's life satisfaction and happiness: the case of Porto
The tourists' gastronomic experiences are important in developing a destination branding strategy, especially if this translates into greater happiness and tourists' life satisfaction. We intend to study the influence of five gastronomic/food experience variables on the tourists’ life satisfaction and happiness. After inquiring 352 tourists in Porto, the data were analysed through SEM and SPSS/AMOS software. The results validate the hypotheses concerning refreshment and hedonic/novelty experiences, which improve tourists’ satisfaction and happiness. The adverse experiences reduce the tourists' happiness, and lastly, tourists' life satisfaction with the gastronomic/food experience improves their happiness. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.B913-0565-0908 | Elvira Vieirainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
