Cultural influences on spontaneous trait inferences
This work explores the effect of culture in the inference of personality traits from people’s
behaviours (spontaneous trait inference - STI). Specifically, it explores the effect of the
individualism/collectivism cultural dimension. In Study 1 we manipulated the
independent/interdependent self-construal to explore whether it would mimic the differences
found between individualistic and collectivistic cultures. Study 2 explored the impact of the
horizontality/verticality distinction of individualism/collectivism. Shimizu, Lee, and
Uleman’s (2017) adaptation of the false recognition paradigm was used in both studies to
measure STIs. Despite independents making more STIs on average than interdependents, as
theoretically expected, Study 1 fell short of statistical significance possibly due to having a
small sample size. Study 2 was unable to find a statistically significant difference between
horizontal individualists (HI) and horizontal collectivists (HC) on STI. We discuss the
relevance of these null results and their implications in the context of STI differences between
O Estudo 2 explorou o
Sensibilidades do passado e do presente no currículo: a história no ensino básico português
This paper seeks to understand how the national curricular guidelines for the History curriculum component, in the 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education in Portugal, dialog with sensitive themes. Considering the most recent documents — Metas Curriculares (2012–2021) and Aprendizagens Essenciais (2018–present) — from a comparative perspective, but not exclusively so, an analysis of ‘socially active questions’ included in or excluded from those was made, along with that of the sense of teaching and the underlying history learning. That initial approach has thus enabled a definition of revealing categories and subcategories. It has also created further data interpretation based on the principles arising from Curriculum and History Education research. Among the main results, stands out a certain prevalence of a (individual? collective?) memory emerging from some (intentional? accidental?) oblivion of the past, and which seems to be incapable of encompassing various sensitivities of contemporary times.
Road to Microservices
This document intends to elucidate the complexity of microservices decomposition and this its inherent process of implementation. Developments in technology and design, achieving higher performance, reliability, or lowering costs are valid reasons to consider controlling the product’s quality by guaranteeing its conformance with established characteristics and standards. Control is made possible by adding quality control, inspection routines, and trend analysis to a manufacturing process. These techniques are established in the Quality field academically and business-wise. Repeat Part Management (RPM) is software that allows users to apply these techniques efficiently and has brought value to the company. However, RPM has been growing, and issues have emerged due to customer needs - accumulated technical debt. These ever-growing modifications are common through different business areas, and architectures’ research evolution has accompanied them. This demand for highly modifiable, rapid development, and independent systems has resulted in the adoption of microservices. There is a concern for existing systems for decomposition due to the characteristics of microservices, which encourages approach/technique research. This architecture promotes legacy system analysis to map current functionalities and dependencies between components. Furthermore, critical concepts in a microservices architecture are researched and implemented in a new system that encompasses Repeat Part Management’s functionalities. This thesis explores the microservices’ architecture evolution with an already defined mature domain in quality assessment.
Propranolol in the treatment of an extensive facial and orbital infantile hemangioma: case report
An infantile hemangioma, a common benign vascular tumor of infancy, can cause significant visual function impairment
and/or relevant disfigurement. We report the successful outcome with oral propranolol treatment, with
no adverse events related to the treatment, in a 2-month-old boy who presented with a complicated extensive
infantile hemangioma of the right hemiface with deep intraorbital involvement, extending to the middle cranial
fossa and pterygopalatine fossa
Aspect-oriented analysis for software product lines requirements engineering
SAC '11 Proceedings of the 2011 ACM 26th Symposium on Applied ComputingRequirements analysis and modeling for Software Product Lines demands the use of feature models, but also requires additional models to help identifying, describing, and specifying features. Traditional approaches usually perform this manually and, in general, the identification and modularization of crosscutting features is ignored, or not handled systematically. This hinders requirements change. We propose an aspect-oriented approach for SPL enriched to automatically derive feature models where crosscutting features are identified and modularized using aspect-oriented concepts and techniques. This is achieved by adapting and extending the AORA (Aspect-Oriented Requirements Analysis) approach. AORA provides templates to specify and organize requirements based on concerns and responsibilities. A set of heuristics is defined to help identifying features and their dependencies in a product line. A tool was developed to automatically generate the feature model from AORA templates
Teaching (History) in the 21st Century: new competencies with identical contents
Contemporary thinking in Education must go beyond what is already known and feed on a utopian vision. Regardless of the contents, the change needs to happen, within the pedagogical practice above anything else: listening more and talking less; embracing new perspectives and different readings from well-known
authors; preparing our interlocutors (students) to face the unforeseen and the uncertainty with optimism. In Basic and Secondary Education, this circumstance assumes the characteristics of a historical thinking and a historical consciousness progressively more sophisticated and, therefore, coincident with a reading of the
world desirably more complex and humanistic. In Higher Education, it is crucial that future teachers perceive the relevance of that attitude of change. Based on these contemporary educational potentialities and challenges, we intend to discuss possible paths to consider, today, a teaching of History that allows us to
design new futures or other competencies.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
