Reflections on distance education management in Brazil: case studies on the development of didatic material in distance education in corporate universities
The development of didactic material in Distance Education has been discussed in an incipient way in
academic circles, through research focused on design models, and ways of using new technologies -
videos, blogs, and social networks among others - with greater emphasis on public universities, thus
neglecting the corporate universities. This paper presents the research conducted to identify the
Management Model for the Development of Didactic Material in Distance Education adopted in
Corporate Universities in state-owned companies in Brazil. The research carried out is based on a
qualitative approach, focused on the analysis of multiple case studies. The data collection used the
literature review and the online questionnaire for the coordinators/managers of the selected corporate
universities. The data analysis leads to the conclusion that the 3 universities under study use the open
and contextualised instructional design models, but do not use the ADDIE model in the development
of the courseware. As for the model of management of the development of the teaching material, it
was concluded that it is closed and defined by the company. This research has triggered new
questions that need to be answered: i) what difficulties prevent the application of the ADDIE model in
the development of instructional design in Corporate Universities?, ii) what future for corporate
universities in Brazil's education system?info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Diagnóstico do Sistema de Gestão dos ResÃduos Sólidos do Hospital de ClÃnicas de Porto Alegre
This study deals with a diagnosis of the management of the Residues de Services de Saúde (RSS) in the Hospital de ClÃnicas de Porto Alegre. It was applied a questionnaire for doctors and team of nursing in the Obstetrical Center, Surgical Block, Surgical Center Ambulatory, Center of Intensive Treatment, Anesthesia Service, Units of internment and Chemotherapy to identify the level of knowledge in relation to the related questions to the handling of residues. The boarded subjects in the questionnaire dealt with the classification of the residues, the risks for the individuals and the environment, of the adjusted treatments, the forms of final disposal and the responsibilities of the generators. It was verified that the main requirements of the new resolutions that deal with the RSS, the 306/04 of the ANVISA (Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária) and 358/05 of the CONAMA (Conselho Nacional do meio-ambiente) already had been implanted in the Hospital, however, considering the largeness of the Hospital with 4.000 employees, it will be necessary a structuralized program of qualification and communication to improve the level of knowledge of the collaborators who act in the assistance area. The results had demonstrated that in the generality the employees possess some information on the adequate handling of residues, are sensitized in such a way for the questions of the residues generated in its areas how much for the impact of these in the environment. With this diagnosis it is possible to evidence that a propitious environment exists to improve the level of information in RSS and to introduce new concepts with the objective to extend the worked ambient aspects until today in the Institution. A Double-Blinded Placebo-Controlled Evaluation of Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Treatment of Canine Atopic Dermatitis
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have emerged as a new therapy for various immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. In this study we perform the first double-blinded, placebo-controlled evaluation of the efficacy of adipose-derived allogenic canine MSCs for the treatment of canine atopic dermatitis (cAD). Enrolled canine patients were randomly divided into placebo (PBS saline), low-dose (5 × 105 cells/kg), and high-dose (5 × 106 cells/kg) treatment groups. Each patient received three subcutaneous MSCs treatments or PBS saline at four-week intervals with injections at five sites. Patients were monitored by physical exams, pruritus visual analog scales (PVAS) signed by the primary caretaker, canine atopic dermatitis extent and severity index-4 (CADESI-4) scores by two veterinarians, and complete blood count and serum chemistry analysis along with laboratory analysis for potential biomarkers. Patients were kept off any immune-modulating drugs during the study period, and oral antibiotics and topicals were used for managing pruritus and secondary infections. The PVAS scores and the serum miR-483 levels were significantly lower in the high dose group compared to the placebo group at day90 post first-treatment. The CADESI-4 scores of the high dose group also showed downward trends. No severe adverse effects were observed in any patient in this study. The high dose MSC treatment is efficacious in alleviating the clinical signs of cAD until 30 days after the last subcutaneous administration of MSCs, and miRNA-483 may be a reliable prognostic biomarker for cAD. The MSCs efficacy and potential biomarkers should be further explored by a larger scale clinical trial
EuPathDB: the eukaryotic pathogen genomics database resource
The Eukaryotic Pathogen Genomics Database Resource (EuPathDB, http://eupathdb.org) is a collection of databases covering 170+ eukaryotic pathogens (protists & fungi), along with relevant free-living and non-pathogenic species, and select pathogen hosts. To facilitate the discovery of meaningful biological relationships, the databases couple preconfigured searches with visualization and analysis tools for comprehensive data mining via intuitive graphical interfaces and APIs. All data are analyzed with the same workflows, including creation of gene orthology profiles, so data are easily compared across data sets, data types and organisms. EuPathDB is updated with numerous new analysis tools, features, data sets and data types. New tools include GO, metabolic pathway and word enrichment analyses plus an online workspace for analysis of personal, non-public, large-scale data. Expanded data content is mostly genomic and functional genomic data while new data types include protein microarray, metabolic pathways, compounds, quantitative proteomics, copy number variation, and polysomal transcriptomics. New features include consistent categorization of searches, data sets and genome browser tracks; redesigned gene pages; effective integration of alternative transcripts; and a EuPathDB Galaxy instance for private analyses of a user's data. Forthcoming upgrades include user workspaces for private integration of data with existing EuPathDB data and improved integration and presentation of host–pathogen interactions
