    Interdisciplinary eHealth for the care of people living with traumatic brain injury: A systematic review

Objective: To identify literature which discusses the barriers and enablers of eHealth technology and which evaluates its role in facilitating interdisciplinary team work for the care of people with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Design: Systematic review. Data sources: Studies were identified by searching CINAHL, Embase, Medline, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Web of Science. Study selection: Studies included in the review were required to feature an eHealth intervention which assisted interdisciplinary care for people with TBI. Data extraction: Descriptive data for each study described the eHealth intervention, interdisciplinary team, outcomes, and barriers and facilitators in implementing eHealth interventions. Results: The search resulted in 1389 publications, of which 35 were retrieved and scanned in full. Six studies met all the inclusion criteria for the review. Four different eHealth interventions were identified: (i) an electronic goals systems, (ii) telerehabilitation, (iii) videoconferencing, and (iv) a point-of-care team-based information system. Various barriers and facilitators were identified in the use of eHealth. Conclusion: eHealth interventions have been reported to support interdisciplinary teams for the care of TBI. However, there is a substantial gap in existing literature regarding the barriers and enablers which characterize a successful interdisciplinary eHealth model for people with TBI

    En Côte d’Ivoire la transfusion sanguine reste importante. Notre objectif était de proposer une ligne directrice de pratique de transfusion sanguine chez le nouveau né prématuré. Notre étude a porté sur 2 ans de janvier 1997 à 1999. Tous nouveau-nés de moins de 37 semaines hospitalisés au Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Yopougon et dont le taux d’hémoglobine était inférieure à 13 g/mL ont été inclus. De cette étude il ressort que la prévalence de l’anémie était de 25%, et celle de la transfusion sanguine de 56%. Le taux d’hémoglobine inférieure à 10 g/mL (p = 0, 000081), la pâleur (p = 0, 000003) étaient nos critères de transfusion. Nous concluons que tout prématuré de moins de 32 semaines dont le taux d’hémoglobine était inférieure ou égale à 10 g/mL admis avant le 15ème jours de vie doit bénéficier d’une transfusion sanguine et le tauxMots Clés prématuré ; anémie ; transfusion ; Abidja

    Design and Testing of a Feed-Forward Control System for Deployable Vortex Generators Dependent on Angle of Attack

    A vortex generator (VG hereafter) is a common feature of an aircraft wing that disturbs the flow on the leading edge of the wing, thus energizing the boundary layer and reducing flow separation. For an aircraft experiencing flow separation, VGs can increase the lift-to-drag ratio of the wing and prevent stall; however, if flow separation isn’t an issue, the unnecessary frontal area of the VGs has the potential to produce parasitic drag. This study seeks to determine whether the use of a deployment system can improve the performance of VG’s by raising or lowering them depending on the angle of attack of the wing. Using wind tunnel testing, a feed-forward control deployment system was developed which improved the lift to drag ratio for some angles of attack, and it was determined that further development could potentially produce a system with significant improvements in aircraft efficiency

    From November 29, 2017 to December 21, 2017, the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research (OER) and partners conducted a telepresence-enabled ocean exploration expedition on NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer to collect critical baseline data and information and to improve knowledge about unexplored and poorly understood deepwater areas of the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico 2017 (EX-17-11) expedition was part of a series of expeditions between 2017 and 2018 that explored deepwater areas in the Gulf of Mexico. During 23 days at sea, 17 remotely operated vehicle (ROV) dives were completed off the Western Florida Escarpment and in the central and western Gulf of Mexico. Over 93 hours of ROV bottom time were logged at depths between 300 and 2,321 meters. Over 20,000 square kilometers of seafloor were mapped. A total of 138 biological and 11 geological samples were collected. The expedition gathered over 280,000 live video views worldwide and the OER website received over 35,600 views. A core onshore science team of over 80 participants from around the world collaborated and supported real-time ocean exploration science. The data associated with this expedition have been archived and are publicly available through the NOAA Archives

    Anaerobic digestion of whole-crop winter wheat silage for renewable energy production

    With biogas production expanding across Europe in response to renewable energy incentives, a wider variety of crops need to be considered as feedstock. Maize, the most commonly used crop at present, is not ideal in cooler, wetter regions, where higher energy yields per hectare might be achieved with other cereals. Winter wheat is a possible candidate because, under these conditions, it has a good biomass yield, can be ensiled, and can be used as a whole crop material. The results showed that, when harvested at the medium milk stage, the specific methane yield was 0.32 m3 CH4 kg–1 volatile solids added, equal to 73% of the measured calorific value. Using crop yield values for the north of England, a net energy yield of 146–155 GJ ha–1 year–1 could be achieved after taking into account both direct and indirect energy consumption in cultivation, processing through anaerobic digestion, and spreading digestate back to the land. The process showed some limitations, however: the relatively low density of the substrate made it difficult to mix the digester, and there was a buildup of soluble chemical oxygen demand, which represented a loss in methane potential and may also have led to biofoaming. The high nitrogen content of the wheat initially caused problems, but these could be overcome by acclimatization. A combination of these factors is likely to limit the loading that can be applied to the digester when using winter wheat as a substrat

    Topological signature of deterministic chaos in short nonstationary signals from an optical parametric oscillator

    Although deterministic chaos has been predicted to occur in the triply resonant optical parametric oscillator (TROPO) fifteen years ago, experimental evidence of chaotic behavior in this system has been lacking so far, in marked contrast with most nonlinear systems, where chaos has been actively tracked and found. This situation is probably linked to the high sensitivity of the TROPO to perturbations, which adversely affects stationary operation at high power. We report the experimental observation in this system of a burst of irregular behavior of duration 80 microseconds. Although the system is highly nonstationary over this time interval, a topological analysis allows us to extract a clearcut signature of deterministic chaos from a time series segment of only 9 base cycles (3 microseconds). This result suggests that nonstationarity is not necessarily an obstacle to the characterization of chaos

    Lifetime determination of excited states in Cd-106

    Two separate experiments using the Differential Decay Curve Method have been performed to extract mean lifetimes of excited states in 106 Cd. The inedium-spin states of interest were populated by the Mo-98(C-12, 4n) Cd-106 reaction performed at the Wright Nuclear Structure Lab., Yale University. From this experiment, two isomeric state mean lifetimes have been deduced. The low-lying states were populated by the Mo-96(C-13, 3n)Cd-106 reaction performed at the Institut fur Kernphysik, Universitat zu Koln. The mean lifetime of the I-pi = 2(1)(+) state was deduced, tentatively, as 16.4(9) ps. This value differs from the previously accepted literature value from Coulomb excitation of 10.43(9) ps
