Velhice e saúde mental: considerações a cerca da atuação do Serviço Social no Centro de doenças de Alzheimer e outras desordens mentais da velhice (CDA) do Instituto de Psiquiatria (IPUB) da UFRJ

Aborda o tema do envelhecimento na área da saúde mental, demonstrando as conjunturas nacional e internacional, no que tange ao fenômeno do envelhecimento, que tem mudado a estrutura demográfica de diversas nações. No concernente ao cenário nacional, esta obra buscará expor a gama de mecanismos jurídico-legais que atuam sobre a proteção e a defesa dos interesses do idoso, ancorados em um contexto histórico que possibilita o processo de desenvolvimento de tais legislações. Por fim, elucidar-se-á a prática profissional a partir da compreensão do trabalho do Assistente Social na área do envelhecimento, no âmbito do Centro de Doenças de Alzheimer e outras Desordens Mentais da Velhice (CDA) do Instituto de Psiquiatria (IPUB/UFRJ), por meio do qual se revela os desafios postos e as conquistas alcançadas, além dos limites ditados pelo panorama atual

Narcisismo: estudantes de contabilidade estão usando seu narcisimo para melhorar o desempenho?

O objetivo dessa pesquisa foi identificar se traços não patológicos de personalidade narcisista em estudantes de graduação de um curso de Ciências Contábeis estariam relacionados com o desempenho desses alunos. Estudantes que superestimam seu desempenho, uma característica de indivíduos narcisistas, vivem uma expectativa não realista que irão ter melhor desempenho que outros em diferentes atividades. Esse comportamento pode ser prejudicial no longo prazo, além de resultar em um constante esforço para que esta expectativa se torne realidade. Os dados foram coletados de uma amostra de 106 alunos de graduação em contabilidade que responderam um questionário contendo questões sobre traços de personalidade narcisista. Os resultados sugerem que quanto maior a presença desses traços narcisitas maiores as chances do desempenho atribuído pelo próprio estudante ser maior. Ao mesmo tempo, o nascisismo não influencia o desempenho real do aluno,o que sugere que esses traços de personalidade incluenciam apenas as expectativas, mas não o processo de aprendizado.The purpose of this research was to identify if non-athological narcissistic personality traits in accounting students are related to their performance. Students who overestimate their performance, a characteristic present in narcissistic individuals, live in the unrealistic belief that they do better than others in different activities. Such tendency can be detrimental in the long term. In addition to resulting in a constant effort so that such expectations become reality. The data were collected from a sample of 106 Brazilian accounting students who responded to a survey that included the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI). The results suggest that the higher the presence of narcissistic traits, the greater his/her self-perceived academic performance. At the same time, narcissism does not influence the student’s real performance, which suggest that narcissistic personality traits just influence expectations, reather than the learning process

This entry explores the proposition of the Culture Circle in Paulo Freire's work, defending the political character it has as a pedagogical space for the liberation of the oppressed, through the creation of a critical conscience that results in an action in the world. Therefore, the fundamental concepts of the Culture Circle in the Pedagogy of the Oppressed are exposed,  and a practical example of the use of the Culture Circle, to demonstrate how it is not possible to think about the Culture Circle in a critical way, without starting from the dialectical notion of contradiction between the oppressors and the oppressed and the possibility of overcoming them, rejecting, therefore, the notion that the culture circle is just a learning tool, which ignores its political, ethical and social aspects.O presente verbete explora a proposição do Círculo de Cultura na obra de Paulo Freire, defendendo o caráter político que possui enquanto espaço pedagógico de libertação dos oprimidos, através da criação de uma consciência crítica que resulte em uma ação no mundo. Factors determining changes in initial antiretroviral therapy

SummaryObjectiveTo investigate factors determining changes in initial antiretroviral therapy (ART) in patients attended to in an AIDS tertiary care hospital in Ceará, Brazil.MethodsThis descriptive and exploratory study used the analysis of request to initiate or change treatment forms in the year of 2008, and the changes in therapy were followed through the first year of treatment. Data were analyzed with SPSS and EpiInfo by using ANOVA and the exact test of the coefficient of contingency, with significance at p<0.05.ResultsFrom 301 patients initiating ART, 22.1% (n=68) needed a change in the first year. These patients were mostly males, aged 20 to 39 years; with only one ART changed needed in 86.8% of the cases (n=59). Reports of two or three changes in regimen were observed. Zidovudine was the drug most often changed, followed by lopinavir/ritonavir and efavirenz. A significant association was found between changes in initial regimens and the report of adverse reactions (p<0.001).ConclusionThe main factor determining changes in the initial ART was an adverse reaction report. Most patients had one change in the initial ART over the first year of treatment. ART monitoring contributed to a better control of the specific drug therapy

Graphene oxide-silver nanocomposite as a promising biocidal agent against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Nanomaterials are an alternative to conventional antibiotic compounds, because bacteria are unlikely to develop microbial resistance against nanomaterials. In the past decade, graphene oxide (GO) has emerged as a material that is often used to support and stabilize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) for the preparation of novel antibacterial nanocomposites. In this work, we report the synthesis of the graphene-oxide silver nanocomposite (GO-Ag) and its antibacterial activity against relevant microorganisms in medicine. Materials and methods: GO-Ag nanocomposite was synthesized through the reduction of silver ions (Ag+) by sodium citrate in an aqueous GO dispersion, and was extensively characterized using ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The antibacterial activity was evaluated by microdilution assays and time-kill experiments. The morphology of bacterial cells treated with GO-Ag was investigated via transmission electron microscopy. Results: AgNPs were well distributed throughout GO sheets, with an average size of 9.4 +/- 2.8 nm. The GO-Ag nanocomposite exhibited an excellent antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant S. aureus, Acinetobacter baumannii, Enterococcus faecalis, and Escherichia coli. All (100%) MRSA cells were inactivated after 4 hours of exposure to GO-Ag sheets. In addition, no toxicity was found for either pristine GO or bare AgNPs within the tested concentration range. Transmission electronic microscopy images offered insights into how GO-Ag nanosheets interacted with bacterial cells. Conclusion: Our results indicate that the GO-Ag nanocomposite is a promising antibacterial agent against common nosocomial bacteria, particularly antibiotic-resistant MRSA. O presente artigo tem por objeto o artigo 223º da Lei 13.467 de 13 de julho de 2017, que estabeleceu, em seu parágrafo 1º, verdadeiros parâmetros de base salarial para a apreciação de danos extrapatrimoniais de natureza indenizatória provenientes da relação de trabalho, criando uma situação de desvalor do trabalhador perante os demais que recebessem maior salário. Desta forma, objetivou-se apontar as polêmicas por trás do citado artigo, bem como apresentar fundamentos para sua rejeição por uma seara justrabalhista integrante de um Estado de direito e analisar as consequências práticas do dispositivo em questão. Para a construção do presente artigo é utilizada uma abordagem indutiva consubstanciada em um procedimento de pesquisa bibliográfica. Ao final, conclui-se que o dispositivo é incompatível com o ordenamento jurídico vigente no país, deturpando princípios constitucionais como o da igualdade e da isonomia, representando violação da dignidade dos trabalhadores, fato este reconhecido através da medida provisória de nº 808 de 14 de novembro de 2017. THE NEW INDEMNIFICATION PARAMETER FOR EXTRAPATRIMONIAL DAMAGES AND ITS INCOMPATIBILITY WITH THE BRAZILIAN LEGAL ORDERAbstract: This article focuses on the Article 223 of Law 13467 of July 13, 2017, which established, in paragraph 1, true parameters of salary base for the assessment of off-balance damages of an indemnity nature arising from the employment relationship, creating a situation of devaluation of the worker to the others who receive higher salary. Heptamethine Cyanine-Loaded Nanomaterials for Cancer Immuno-Photothermal/Photodynamic Therapy: A Review

The development of strategies capable of eliminating metastasized cancer cells and preventing tumor recurrence is an exciting and extremely important area of research. In this regard, therapeutic approaches that explore the synergies between nanomaterial-mediated phototherapies and immunostimulants/immune checkpoint inhibitors have been yielding remarkable results in pre-clinical cancer models. These nanomaterials can accumulate in tumors and trigger, after irradiation of the primary tumor with near infrared light, a localized temperature increase and/or reactive oxygen species. These effects caused damage in cancer cells at the primary site and can also (i) relieve tumor hypoxia, (ii) release tumor-associated antigens and danger-associated molecular patterns, and (iii) induced a pro-inflammatory response. Such events will then synergize with the activity of immunostimulants and immune checkpoint inhibitors, paving the way for strong T cell responses against metastasized cancer cells and the creation of immune memory. Among the different nanomaterials aimed for cancer immuno-phototherapy, those incorporating near infrared-absorbing heptamethine cyanines (Indocyanine Green, IR775, IR780, IR797, IR820) have been showing promising results due to their multifunctionality, safety, and straightforward formulation.
