Using small corpora to tap and map the process-product interface in translation

    Get PDF
Building on the notion of small corpora (Ghadessy et al., 2001) and on the need to cross-analyze process-driven and product-driven data (Hansen, 2002) to better elucidate issues of problem solving and decision making in translation (Alves & Gonçalves, 2003), this article proposes the integration of small corpora within the methodological structure of CORPRAT (Corpus on Process for the Analysis of Translations).

The disjunction of the maxilla in order to correct the atresia of the maxillary dental arch consists of opening the intermaxillary suture and consequent transverse increase of the skeletal base. This study aimed to evaluate, through a narrative review, the factors to be considered in the Cone-beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) for “Micro implant Assisted Rapid Maxillary Expansion” (MARPE) disjunction in the palatal suture. In order to identify relevant studies, a search was performed in the database Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MedLine) using PubMed search engine, including studies published between the years 2010 to 2021. The selection of studies respected the pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. After evaluating the selected articles, the research results allowed us to conclude that CBCT images are very important to evaluate the parameters to be applied in the treatment using MARPE method.

Understanding of self-terminating pulse generation using silicon controlled rectifier and RC load

    Get PDF
The article of record as published may be found at http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.4940305Recently a silicon controlled rectifier (SCR)-based circuit that generates self-terminating voltage pulses was employed for the detection of light and ionizing radiation in pulse mode. The circuit consisted of a SCR connected in series with a RC load and DC bias. In this paper, we report the investigation of the physics underlying the pulsing mechanism of the SCR-based. It was found that during the switching of SCR, the voltage across the capacitor increased beyond that of the DC bias, thus generating a reverse current in the circuit, which helped to turn the SCR off. The pulsing was found to be sustainable only for a specific range of RC values depending on the SCR’s intrinsic turn-on/off times. The findings of this work will help to design optimum SCR based circuits for pulse mode detection of light and ionizing radiation without external amplification circuitry. The National Consortium for MASINT research (NCMR)Sam BaroneThe National Consortium for MASINT research (NCMR

To perform a quantitative analysis of the background noise at Congonhas Airport surroundings based on large sampling and measurements with no interruption. METHODS Measuring sites were chosen from 62 and 72 DNL (day-night-level) noise contours, in urban sites compatible with residential use. Fifteen sites were monitored for at least 168 hours without interruption or seven consecutive days. Data compilation was based on cross-reference between noise measurements and air traffic control records, and results were validated by airport meteorological reports. Preliminary diagnoses were established using the standard NBR-13368. Background noise values were calculated based on the Sound Exposure Level (SEL). Statistic parameters were calculated in one-hour intervals. RESULTS Only four of the fifteen sites assessed presented aircraft operations as a clear cause for the noise annoyance. Even so, it is possible to detect background noise levels above regulation limits during periods of low airport activity or when it closes at night. CONCLUSIONS All the sites monitored showed background noise levels above regulation limits between 7:00 and 21:00. In the intervals between 6:00-6:59 and 21:00-22:59 the noise data, when analyzed with the current airport operational characteristics, still allow the development of additional mitigating measures

    Get PDF
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disorder that results in hyperglycemia by absolute or relative insulin deficiency, sometimes leading to fatal complications. The successful treatment of diabetic dogs depends on nutritional management and insulin applications. Studies evaluating the nutrition of diabetic dogs focused on fiber as the main factor in glycemic control; however, new research describes the role of starch as key in postprandial glycemic fluctuation, also attributing a central role for body condition scores and feed management in the adequate glycemic control of diabetic dogs. The aim of this paper is to review nutritional aspects to better control diabetes in dogs
