    Clinical approaches and removal of cast metallic posts for their replacement by the fiberglass posts: a concise systematic review

    Introduction: A successful placement of an intraradicular post needs a good endodontic treatment. Consideration should also be given to the possibility of its future removal. Authors have shown that approximately 10% of cases of teeth indicated for endodontic retreatment require removal of intraradicular posts. Objective: To carry out a concise systematic review to analyze the reasons for replacing intraradicular posts, the most effective and used techniques for removing the metallic post, the manufacture of the fiberglass post, and the difference between the two types of posts. Methods: The present study followed a systematic review model, following the rules of systematic review – PRISMA. The search strategy was performed in the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science and Scopus, and Google Scholar databases. Results and Conclusion: A total of 112 articles were found. A total of 56 articles were fully evaluated and 18 were included in this study. Based on the objective and results found in the present study, the review demonstrated the main advantages and disadvantages of the clinical performance of cast metal posts and fiberglass posts, as well as the reason for switching from metal to fiberglass posts. Despite the wear caused by endodontic treatment, it is important to check the remaining dentin to choose the best retainer, observing the amount of this remaining structure, as it directly influences the selection of the post. Regarding the removal of the metallic pin, wear, ultrasound, and seizure/removal with some traction device are used. The replacement of the metallic post can opt for fiberglass posts because they have a greater advantage compared to the metallic post, mainly for aesthetics, the manufacturing technique is more agile, they do not generate risks of root fracture and if, for any eventuality, it needs to be removed. to portray the channel, the technique is smooth and easy

    Dietary Supplementation with Omega-3-PUFA-Rich Fish Oil Reduces Signs of Food Allergy in Ovalbumin-Sensitized Mice

    We investigated the effect of dietary supplementation with n-3 PUFA (fish oil source) in an experimental model of food allergy. Mice were sensitized (allergic group) or not (nonallergic group) with OVA and were fed with OVA diet to induce allergy signals. Mice were fed with regular diet in which 7% of lipid content was provided by soybean (5% of n-3 PUFA) or fish (25% of n-3 PUFA) oil. Allergic group mice had increased serum levels of antiovalbumin IgE and IgG1 and changes in small intestine, characterized by an increased edema, number of rolling leukocytes in microcirculation, eosinophil infiltration, mucus production, and Paneth cell degranulation, in comparison to non-allergic group. All these inflammatory parameters were reduced in mice fed high-n-3-PUFA diet. Our data together suggest that diet supplementation with n-3 PUFA from fish oil may consist of a valid adjuvant in food allergy treatment

    Cardiomiopatia de takotsubo em homem jovem - Relato de Caso / Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in a young man – case report

    A cardiomiopatia de takotsubo caracteriza-se por disfunção aguda e quase sempre reversível do ventrículo esquerdo, geralmente em resposta a estresse emocional ou físico, descrita principalmente em mulheres na pós-menopausa. Objetivos: descrever caso de cardiomiopatia de takotsubo em paciente jovem, masculino, o que representa rara incidência. Descrição de caso: paciente masculino, 26 anos, com dor retroesternal padrão síndrome coronariana aguda. O eletrocardiograma evidenciou zona eletricamente inativa em região anterior extensa e lateral alta; troponina T levemente elevada e CK-MB elevada; BNP normal. Diagnóstico inicial: infarto anterior extenso e lateral alto eletricamente consolidado e síndrome coronariana aguda sem supra de ST. O diagnóstico foi reformulado para síndrome de takotsubo após ecocardiograma transtorácico evidenciar acinesia de segmentos médios e apical. A ventriculografia confirmou os dados ecocardiográficos e evidenciou na sístole a configuração de balonamento apical, além de identificar que as artérias coronárias estavam pérvias. Discussão: a síndrome de takotsubo, também conhecida por síndrome do coração partido, síndrome do balonamento apical, cardiomiopatia de estresse, é uma síndrome geralmente subdiagnosticada com características clínicas e alterações eletrocardiográficas que mimetizam síndrome coronariana aguda. O presente caso é raro por tratar-se de jovem e do sexo masculino. Conclusão: relatada desde 1990, esta cardiomiopatia nos traz intrigantes questionamentos: é doença antiga e hoje mais diagnosticada pelo avanço tecnológico (angiografia, ecocardiografia) ou resultado dos estresses excessivamente presentes na vida moderna? Por outro lado, dentro da condição atual, com a pandemia da SARS-COV-2, é de se esperar que haja uma explosão de novos casos. Provavelmente, os dias vindouros deverão nos dar respostas a esses questionamentos

    Avaliação de protocolos para indução de inatividade ovariana em gatas domésticas

    Os índices de prenhez após inseminação artificial em felídeos selvagens não são satisfatórios devido ao variável ambiente endócrino após a estimulação com gonadotropinas. O objetivo deste estudo consistiu em aumentar a taxa de sucesso em programas de inseminação artificial em gatas domésticas (animal modelo). As fêmeas (n=9) foram divididas em três grupos, cada um com três animais, sendo: 1) controle (C), somente 200 UI eCG/ 100 UI hCG ; 2) levonorgestrel oral (L) (0,075 mg) durante 37 dias + eCG/hCG; 3) etonogestrel (E), implante subdérmico durante 37 dias + eCG/hCG. Foram submetidas ao exame laparoscópico 29-39 horas após a administração de hCG para verificação da resposta ovariana e realização de esfregaço vaginal para monitoração da fase do ciclo estral. Foram coletadas amostras de fezes 60 dias antes e 60 dias após o tratamento com gonadotropinas para dosagem hormonal de estrógenos. Os resultados foram avaliados através do Teste ANOVA. Os níveis de significância mostraram que o Grupo E, em contraste com o Grupo C e o Grupo L, apresentou inibição satisfatória das concentrações de estrógenos durante a sua utilização. O grupo L não apresentou inibição ovariana durante o tratamento e diferença significativa em relação ao Grupo C. No exame laparoscópico todas as fêmeas dos grupos C, L e E apresentaram folículos e 77% das fêmeas apresentaram corpo lúteo. Também apresentaram células epiteliais superficiais anucleadas e nucleadas características de estro. Concluiu-se que a utilização de implantes de etonogestrel em gatas domésticas mostrou-se eficaz, possibilitando a sua utilização prévia aos programas de inseminação artificial, aspiração folicular e também para a contracepçãoReproductive success in endangered captive small felids species is very low. Nowadays, ovarian activity controll improves the AI success in many species. In this study, new protocols were compared to improve the fertilization rates in artificial insemination programs in domestic cat. Female domestic cats were divided in three treatments: 1) control (eCG/hCG); 2) levonorgestrel (0.075 mg) orally during 37 days + eCG/hCG; 3) etonogestrel subdermal implant during 37 days + eCG/hCG: Laparoscopies were done 29-39 hours post hCG treatment to verify ovarian activity. Vaginal swabs were collected at laparoscopic procedures. Fecal samples were colected 60 days before, during and 60 days after the gonadotropin treatment for estradiol assay. Means comparisons were done by ANOVA test. Results demonstrated that etonogestrel (implant) and not oral levonorgestrel successfully suppressed ovarian activity. The levonorgestrel group did not show ovarian inactivity during the administration, presenting oestradiol peaks and without significative diference comparing to control group. All females presented anuclear and nuclear superficial vaginal epithelial cells at laparoscopies. In conclusion, the etonogestrel implant used in the domestic cat was efficient and can be used previous to gonadotropin protocol in artificial insemination programs, follicular aspiration and contraceptio

    Paradoxical role of matrix metalloproteinases in liver injury and regeneration after sterile acute hepatic failure

    Acetaminophen (APAP) poisoning is one of the leading causes of acute hepatic failure and liver transplantation is often the only lifesaving alternative. During the course of hepatocyte necrosis, an intense accumulation of neutrophils is often observed within the liver microenvironment. Despite the classic idea that neutrophil accumulation in tissues causes collateral tissue damage, there is a growing body of evidence showing that neutrophils can also orchestrate the resolution of inflammation. In this work, drug-induced liver injury was induced by oral administration of APAP and pharmacological intervention was made 12 h after this challenge. Liver injury and repair kinetics were evaluated by a novel combination of enzyme quantifications, ELISA, specific antagonists of neutrophil enzymes and confocal intravital microscopy. We have demonstrated that neutrophil infiltration is not only involved in injury amplification, but also in liver tissue repair after APAP-induced liver injury. In fact, while neutrophil depletion led to reduced hepatic necrosis during APAP poisoning, injury recovery was also delayed in neutropenic mice. The mechanisms underlying the neutrophil reparative role involved rapid degranulation and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) activity.
