Por ello, en este trabajo se diseñará un parque eólico offshoreen la costa de Fuerteventura, conocido el potencial eólico que esta zona posee.En primer lugar,se analizarán las diferentes alternativas del estudio. A continuación, se describirá la solución propuesta y,por último, se hará un estudio tanto ambiental como económico para conocer la viabilidad del proyecto.In a world where climate change is increasingly visible, it is necessary to make a transition to a more ecological system.     Impact of Body Mass Index on Survival of Metastatic Renal Cancer

    Obesity has been established as a risk factor for renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Recently, studies have described obesity as a probable protecting factor in the metastatic stage of RCC. In this study, we assessed the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and overall survival in patients under systemic therapy. The correlation between BMI and overall median survival was studied in 76 patients diagnosed with metastatic RCC under systemic therapy. The groups were divided into overweight and obesity (BMI > 25 kg/m2) and underweight or normal (BMI < 25 kg/m2). Statistical analysis was performed using the Cox regression model adjusted by gender. A total of 76 patients were studied: 16 women (21%) and 60 men (79%). The median BMI was 27.96 kg/m2; 24 patients (31.6%) had low BMI and 52 (68.4%) had high BMI. Median overall survival in the group with BMI > 25 kg/m2 was 17 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 13–34 months), while in the group with BMI ≤ 25 kg/m2, it was 14 months (95% CI: 8–20 months). When adjusted by gender, the group with BMI > 25 kg/m2 presented a hazards ratio of 0.54 (95% CI: 0.30–0.96), P = 0.044 (Log Rank). A high BMI significantly acts as a protecting factor. We observed an increased overall survival of overweight and obese patients within the context of metastatic RCC under systemic treatment. These data confirm the findings published in other studies that suggest the role of lipid metabolism in this type of tumors

    Fail-aware LIDAR-based odometry for autonomous vehicles

    Autonomous driving systems are set to become a reality in transport systems and, so, maximum acceptance is being sought among users. Currently, the most advanced architectures require driver intervention when functional system failures or critical sensor operations take place, presenting problems related to driver state, distractions, fatigue, and other factors that prevent safe control. Therefore, this work presents a redundant, accurate, robust, and scalable LiDAR odometry system with fail-aware system features that can allow other systems to perform a safe stop manoeuvre without driver mediation. All odometry systems have drift error, making it difficult to use them for localisation tasks over extended periods. For this reason, the paper presents an accurate LiDAR odometry system with a fail-aware indicator. This indicator estimates a time window in which the system manages the localisation tasks appropriately. The odometry error is minimised by applying a dynamic 6-DoF model and fusing measures based on the Iterative Closest Points (ICP), environment feature extraction, and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) methods. The obtained results are promising for two reasons: First, in the KITTI odometry data set, the ranking achieved by the proposed method is twelfth, considering only LiDAR-based methods, where its translation and rotation errors are 1.00% and 0.0041 deg/m, respectively. Second, the encouraging results of the fail-aware indicator demonstrate the safety of the proposed LiDAR odometry system. The results depict that, in order to achieve an accurate odometry system, complex models and measurement fusion techniques must be used to improve its behaviour. Furthermore, if an odometry system is to be used for redundant localisation features, it must integrate a fail-aware indicator for use in a safe manner

    Carbon dynamics within cyclonic eddies: insights from a biomarker study

    It is generally assumed that episodic nutrient pulses by cyclonic eddies into surface waters support a significant fraction of the primary production in subtropical low-nutrient environments in the northern hemisphere. However, contradictory results related to the influence of eddies on particulate organic carbon (POC) export have been reported. As a step toward understanding the complex mechanisms that control export of material within eddies, we present here results from a sediment trap mooring deployed within the path of cyclonic eddies generated near the Canary Islands over a 1.5-year period. We find that, during summer and autumn (when surface stratification is stronger, eddies are more intense, and a relative enrichment in CaCO3 forming organisms occurs), POC export to the deep ocean was 2-4 times higher than observed for the rest of the year. On the contrary, during winter and spring (when mixing is strongest and the seasonal phytoplankton bloom occurs), no significant enhancement of POC export associated with eddies was observed. Our biomarker results suggest that a large fraction of the material exported from surface waters during the late-winter bloom is either recycled in the mesopelagic zone or bypassed by migrant zooplankton to the deep scattering layer, where it would disaggregate to smaller particles or be excreted as dissolved organic carbon. Cyclonic eddies, however, would enhance carbon export below 1000 m depth during the summer stratification period, when eddies are more intense and frequent, highlighting the important role of eddies and their different biological communities on the regional carbon cycle

    Modelling aboveground biomass and fuel load components at stand level in shrub communities in NW Spain

    Shrub-dominated ecosystems cover large areas globally and play essential roles in ecological processes. Aboveground biomass expressed on an area basis (AGB) is central to many of the ecological processes and services provided by shrublands and is important as the main fuel source for wildfires. Hence, its accurate estimation in shrublands is crucial for ecologists and land managers. This is especially relevant in fire-prone regions such as NW Spain, where shrublands are an important part of the landscape, providing multiple services, but are severely impacted by wildfires. Although biomass models are available for numerous shrub species at the individual plant level, operational models based directly on easily measured shrub stand attributes are scarce. In this study, equations for estimating AGB and loads of different fuel components by size and condition (live and dead) from stand biometric variables were developed for the nine most prevalent shrub communities in NW Spain. Non-linear iterative seemingly unrelated regression was used to fit compatible systems of equations for estimating fuel loads, with shrub stand height and cover and litter depth as predictors for individual shrub communities and all data combined. In general, the goodness-of-fit statistics indicated that the estimates were reasonably accurate for all communities (grouped and ungrouped). The best results were obtained for AGB and total fuel load, including litter, whereas the poorest results were obtained for standing live and dead fine fuel load. Model performance was reduced when height was the only independent variable, although the reduction was small for most fuel categories, except litter load for which the variability was adequately explained by the litter depth. These results illustrate the feasibility of the stand level approach for constructing operational models of shrub fuel load that are accurate for most of fuel components, while also highlighting the ongoing challenges in live and dead fine fuel modelling. The equations developed represent an appreciable advance in shrubland biomass assessment in the region and areas with similar characteristics and may be instrumental in generating fuel maps, fire management improvement and better C storage assessment by vegetation, among other many usesS

    Comparative efficacy of exercise, diet and/or pharmacological interventions on BMI, ovulation, and hormonal profile in reproductive-aged women with overweight or obesity: a systematic review and network meta-analysis

Consequently, finding the most appropriate strategies to lose weight and improve ovulation in women with overweight or obesity is a clinically relevant matter that needs to be investigated. A comprehensive comparison of the independent and combined efficacy of lifestyle and/or pharmacological interventions on BMI, ovulation, and hormonal profile in women with overweight or obesity at risk of anovulatory infertility would facilitate improving fertility strategies in this population. OBJECTIVE AND RATIONALE This study aimed to evaluate the comparative efficacy of exercise, diet, and pharmacological interventions on BMI, ovulation, and hormonal profile in reproductive-aged women with overweight or obesity. SEARCH METHODS A systematic review was performed by searching PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and Cochrane Library up to 14 December 2023, for randomized controlled trials assessing the effects of exercise, diet and/or pharmacological interventions (i.e. weight-lowering drugs or ovulation inducers) on BMI, ovulation, and/or hormonal profile in reproductive-aged women with overweight or obesity. We performed frequentist random-effect network meta-analyses and rated the certainty of the evidence. The primary outcomes were BMI and ovulation rate, and the secondary outcomes were serum reproductive hormone levels (gonadotrophins, androgens, or oestrogens). We performed sensitivity analyses, including the studies that only involved women with PCOS. OUTCOMES Among 1190 records screened, 148 full texts were assessed for eligibility resulting in 95 trials (9910 women), of which 53% presented a high or unclear risk of bias. The network meta-analyses revealed that, compared to control: diet combined with weight-lowering drugs (mean difference (MD) −2.61 kg/m2; 95% CI −3.04 to −2.19; τ2 = 0.22) and adding exercise (MD −2.35 kg/m2; 95% CI −2.81 to −1.89; τ2 = 0.22) led to the greatest decrease in BMI; exercise combined with diet and ovulation inducers (risk ratio (RR) 7.15; 95% CI 1.94–26.40; τ2 = 0.07) and exercise combined with diet and weight-lowering drugs (RR 4.80; 95% CI 1.67–13.84; τ2 = 0.07) produced the highest increase in ovulation rate; and exercise combined with diet and weight-lowering drugs was the most effective strategy in reducing testosterone levels (standardized mean difference (SMD) −2.91; 95% CI −4.07 to −1.74; τ2 = 2.25), the third most effective strategy in increasing sex hormone-binding globulin levels (SMD 2.37; 95% CI 0.99–3.76; τ2 = 2.48), and it was coupled with being ranked first in terms of free androgen index reduction (SMD −1.59; 95% CI −3.18 to 0.01; τ2 = 1.91). The surface under the cumulative ranking curve scores suggested that: diet combined with weight-lowering drugs is the strategy most likely (94%) to produce the highest BMI reduction; and exercise combined with diet and ovulation inducers is the strategy most likely (89%) to produce the highest ovulation rate improvement. The sensitivity analyses, which exclusively included studies involving women diagnosed with PCOS, were consistent with the results presented above. WIDER IMPLICATIONS Overall, the findings of this network meta-analysis indicate that the combination of exercise, diet, and pharmacological interventions is effective for weight loss, improving ovulation, and normalizing the androgen levels of women with overweight or obesity.
