    In this paper we look at the Line Integral Convolution method for flow visualization and ways in which this can be applied to the visualization of two dimensional, steady flow fields in the presence of uncertainty. To achieve this, we start by studying the method and reviewing the history of modifications other authors have made to it in order to improve its efficiency or capabilities, and using these as a base for the visualization of uncertain flow fields. Finally, we apply our methodology to a case study from the field of oceanography

    The large carpenter bee Xylocopa (Neoxylocopa) augusti Lepeletier de Saint Fargeau, 1841, is here recorded for the first time in Chile. This new record increases to four the number of carpenter bees known for the country. Host plant associations for X. augusti in Chile are provided. A key to the species of Xylocopa Latreille in Chile as well as comments on the presence of X.     Contouring with uncertainty

    As stated by Johnson [Joh04], the visualization of uncertainty remains one of the major challenges for the visualization community. To achieve this, we need to understand and develop methods that allow us not only to consider uncertainty as an extra variable within the visualization process, but to treat it as an integral part. In this paper, we take contouring, one of the most widely used visualization techniques for two dimensional data, and focus on extending the concept of contouring to uncertainty. We develop special techniques for the visualization of uncertain contours. We illustrate the work through application to a case study in oceanography

    A two-level enriched finite element method for a mixed problem

    The simplest pair of spaces is made inf-sup stable for the mixed form of the Darcy equation. The key ingredient is to enhance the finite element spaces inside a Petrov-Galerkin framework with functions satisfying element-wise local Darcy problems with right hand sides depending on the residuals over elements and edges. The enriched method is symmetric, locally mass conservative and keeps the degrees of freedom of the original interpolation spaces. First, we assume local enrichments exactly computed and we prove uniqueness and optimal error estimates in natural norms. Then, a low cost two-level finite element method is proposed to effectively obtain enhancing basis functions. The approach lays on a two-scale numerical analysis and shows that well-posedness and optimality is kept, despite the second level numerical approximation. Several numerical experiments validate the theoretical results and compares (favourably in some cases) our results with the classical Raviart-Thomas elemen

    Tesis (Licenciado en Psicología)INTRODUCCIÓN: La exclusión del ámbito social de los sectores más deprivados o que se desarrollan en la marginalidad, hace que se torne difícil el acercamiento a explorar las dinámicas que se producen en estos sectores. Y parte de esta población que crece en estas condiciones se relaciona con los adolescentes, que llegan a esta etapa habiendo vivido en muchas ocasiones las problemáticas que se dan en familias desestructuradas como violencia intrafamiliar, hacinamiento, ausentismo escolar, alcoholismo, drogadicción y exposición sexual, entre otros. Un acercamiento a estos jóvenes permite saber qué percepción tienen del mundo que los rodea, cómo se perciben a sí mismos y de qué modo se enfrentan con el otro. La experiencia previa de conocer parte de la realidad de estos jóvenes permite acotar que muchos de ellos tienen la capacidad de darse cuenta de su realidad, manifestando aptitudes para enfrentar de mejor forma su paso a la vida adulta, faltando las instancias necesarias para su desarrollo que les lleve a integrarse al sistema social. La posibilidad de conocer sus percepciones desde ellos mismos y de qué forma empatizan con el otro, puede colaborar para conocer y plantear canales de integración con este grupo social
