    Taxonomic study of coenocytic green algae commonly growing on the coast of Karachi

    Twelve commonly occurring coenocytic and siphonaceous species of marine benthic algae, i.e., Bryopsis pennatta Lamouroux, Caulerpa chemnitzia (Esper) Lamouroux, Ca. faridii Nizamuddin, Ca. manorensis Nizamuddin, Ca. racemosa (Forsskal) J. Agardh, Ca. taxifolia. (Vahl) C. Agardh, Chaetomorpha antennina (Bory de Saint-Vincent) Kutzing, Cladophora uncinella Harvey, Codium decorticatum (Woodward) Howe, Co. flabellatum Nizamuddin, Co. iyengarii Borgesen, and Valoniopsis pachynema (Martens) Borgesen, belonging to four different orders of the class Bryopsidophyceae, division Chlorophyta, were collected from the intertidal region of different coastal areas near Karachi (Pakistan) and investigated taxonomically. Codium decorticatum is a new report from this region and Co. decorticatum, Co. flabellatum and Co. iyengarii are described for the first time from the coast of Pakistan

    Inconsistency is the Consistency: The Title IX Reporting Process for Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct Within Maryland Public Universities

    Title IX is a primary federal legal approach to address campus sexual and gender-based misconduct, yet few students utilize Title IX reporting as a formal campus support, and those that do frequently report negative experiences. In this study, we interviewed 11 student survivors at four Maryland public universities who engaged with the Title IX reporting and response process. Our aims were to (a) examine how Title IX functions in a state public education system with a robust Title IX policy; (b) describe commonalities and differences in experiences; and (c) use theories of institutional betrayal and support to understand aspects of the process most helpful or harmful for survivors, especially minoritized survivors. Results reflected several common themes, but also an inconsistent Title IX process both within and across institutions beholden to the same Title IX policy, representing potential policy deviations. Further, institutional betrayal was reflected in the experiences of minoritized survivors who described Title IX staff microaggressions and invalidations and survivors who unknowingly disclosed to mandatory reporters. Overall, experiences contributed to a perception of the Title IX office and reporting process as unhelpful and untrustworthy. Results identify the need to reduce inconsistencies in Title IX reporting and response processes to ameliorate process harms

    Student Experiences Reporting Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct to the Title IX Office at a Public State University

    Twenty-five survivors completed anonymous surveys about reporting sexual and gender-based misconduct to their public university’s Title IX office, including case characteristics, perceptions of the reporting and response process (e.g., helpfulness, respect), and experiences of institutional betrayal and support. Measures and open-ended responses described varied misconduct incidents, reporting behaviors, case outcomes, process issues, and negative process consequences. Additionally, process perceptions correlated with institutional betrayal and support. Findings illuminate how survivors’ Title IX process perceptions relate to experiencing harm or support from larger institutions, and offer insights into developing a Title IX process which maintains student rights and dignity regardless of outcome

    THE FORMALIZED ASSESSMENT OF EFFICIENCY OF THE REGIONAL HIGHER SCHOOL THROUGH THE PRISM OF THE RATIO OF ENTRANCE AND OUTPUT STREAM SIZES

    En el contexto de la globalización, aumenta el crecimiento del entorno competitivo a nivel nacional e interregional en el campo del desarrollo de la innovación, el papel de la educación superior como la principal fuente de recursos humanos y la formación del entorno de innovación. El bajo nivel de desarrollo de la educación superior priva a la región de una cierta independencia, colocándola en una dependencia adicional de otros sistemas: regional, nacional, económico, etc. En este sentido, el estudio de las tendencias en el desarrollo de la educación superior en el interregional level es una tarea extremadamente urgente, cuya solución proporcionará un proceso de monitoreo y pronóstico de las perspectivas para el desarrollo de sistemas socioeconómicos a mediano y largo plazo. Al mismo tiempo, a pesar de una amplia gama de trabajos científicos dedicados al problema, todavía no hay unidad en el espacio científico en la esfera de la evaluación formal de la efectividad del desarrollo de los sistemas regionales de educación superior. En este sentido, este estudio propone enfoques dirigidos al apoyo metodológico para resolver el problema. La característica principal del trabajo es el uso de métodos de comparación de valores de flujo de entrada y salida, que caracterizan los parámetros de la escuela superior regional. Utilizando los enfoques de racionamiento de los indicadores analizados y el desarrollo posterior sobre la base de los índices de eficiencia, se llevan a cabo cálculos multicomponentes, evaluando los indicadores, caracterizando el rendimiento del capital invertido de los sistemas regionales de educación superior en forma de una evaluación integrada de su efectividad por 1 rublo de costos financieros. Como resultado de las evaluaciones implementadas, se identifican las regiones del distrito Volga Federal, caracterizadas por posiciones moderadas y fuertes en el campo de la generación de efectos, caracterizando su efectividad en comparación con los recursos financieros invertidos.No contexto da globalização, aumenta o crescimento do ambiente competitivo nos níveis nacional inter-regional no campo do desenvolvimento da inovação, o papel do ensino superior como principal fonte de recursos humanos e a formação do ambiente de inovação. Como resultado das avaliações implementadas, são identificadas as regiões do distrito Federal do Volga, caracterizadas por posições moderadas e fortes no campo de geração de efeitos, caracterizando sua efetividade em comparação aos recursos financeiros investidos.In the context of globalization, the growth of the competitive environment at the interregional, national levels in the field of innovation development, the role of higher education as the main source of human resources and the formation of the innovation environment increases. The low level of development of higher education deprives the region of a certain independence, placing it in additional dependence on other systems - regional, national, economic, etc. In this regard, the study of trends in the development of higher education at the interregional level is an extremely urgent task, the solution of which will provide a process of monitoring and forecasting the prospects for the development of socio-economic systems in the medium and long term. At the same time, despite a wide range of scientific works devoted to the problem, there is still no unity in the scientific space in the sphere of formal evaluation of the effectiveness of the development of regional higher education systems. In this regard, this study proposes approaches aimed at methodological support of solving the problem. The main feature of the work is the use of methods of comparison of input and output stream values, characterizing the parameters of the regional higher school. Using the approaches of rationing of the analyzed indicators and the subsequent development on this basis of the efficiency indices, multicomponent calculations are carried out, evaluating the indicators, characterizing the return on invested capital of regional higher education systems in the form of an integrated assessment of their effectiveness per 1 ruble of financial costs. As a result of the implemented assessments, the regions of the Volga Federal district are identified, characterized by moderate and strong positions in the field of generating effects, characterizing their effectiveness in comparison with the invested financial resources. &nbsp

    Comparative Idioms of the Russian Language of the Micro-Field "Slow-Wittedness"

    Comparative idioms are one of the actively developed problematic spheres of phraseology. At the moment, detailed consideration is being given to the cultural and structural aspects of the analysis of comparatives. In the present article the author analyzes stylistic features of comparative idioms in the micro-field "slow-wittedness", and their functioning in art texts. It has been revealed that such comparisons are not frequent in artistic texts in view of stylistic limitation of comparisons (often they are dubbed colloquial, contemptuous). Specific standards of comparison are established: these are often the names of animals or a tree, its parts and wooden products. The reason of such a choice of standards of comparison is linked with the features of the national world view of the Russian people at early stages of development. Estimations as to when comparative idioms of such semantics came into use are often placed at the 19th century, less frequently at the 20th. Special attention is paid to the subject comparative connection. Generally, they serve as the characteristic of the representatives of the masculine gender. The characteristic of representatives of the feminine gender is met quite seldom and demands a change in the standard of comparison. The descriptive method serves as a key method of linguistic analysis in work as it allows the analyzing of the specifics of functioning of a comparative idiom in context and opens implicitly the presented linguo-culturological potential of comparative idiom

    Association of Physical Activity with Co-morbid Conditions in Geriatric Population

    To find out association of physical activity with co-morbid conditions in geriatric population, a cross-sectional study was conducted in different cties of Pakistan in 2015. A total of 114 participants were inducted by non-probability convenience sampling technique. Data was collected after informed verbal consent by a validated questionnaire that is Rapid Assessment of Physical Activity (RAPA). Participants were categorized into two groups i.e. physically active and physically inactive. Data was entered and analyzed in SPSS version 20. There were 66 (57.9%) males and 48 (42.1%) females with mean age of 57.04±7.348 years. Among hypertensive individuals (n=43, 37.7%) there were 39 (90.7%) physically inactive, among individuals having angina (n=17, 14.9%) there were 15 (88.2%) physically inactive. Out of 37 (32.5%) diabetics, 35 (94.6%) were physically inactive. Among individuals suffering from arthritis (n=40, 35.1%), there were 38 (95%) physically inactive. A significant association was found between physical activity and diabetes and arthritis with p-value of 0.048 and 0.029 respectively. Physical activity is significantly associated with diabetes and arthritis in geriatric population. Adequate physical activity should be performed to reduce the risk of co-morbid conditions and improve the quality of life in geriatric population
