Genetic comparisons of Egyptian date palm cultivars (Phoenix dactylifera L.) by RAPD-PCR

    Get PDF
Random amplified polymorphic DNA technique was used to compare genetic material from four females date palm and four unknown male trees of Egyptian date palm. The genetic similarity between the four females date palm (Zaghloul, Amhat, Samany and Siwi) ranged from 87.5 to 98.9%. The banding profiles obtained suggested that both males 3 and 4 are genetically related to the four female cultivars. (African Journal of Biotechnology: 2003 2(4): 86

This paper shows a new technic applicable for the digital devices that are the result of the finite’s effect precision in the chaotic dynamics used in the coupled technic and the chaotic map’s perturbation technics used for the generation of a Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNGs).The use of the pseudo- chaotic sequences coupled to the orbit perturbation method in the chaotic logistic map and the NewPiece-Wise Linear Chaotic Map (NPWLCM). The pseudo random number generator’s originality proposed from the perturbation of the chaotic recurrence. Furthermore the outputs of the binary sequences with NPWLCM are reconstructed conventionally with the Bernoulli’s sequences shifts map to change the shapes with the bitwise permetation then the results in simulation are shown in progress. After being perturbed, the chaotic system can generate the chaotic binary sequences in uniform distribution and the statistical properties invulnerable analysis. This generator also has many advantages in the possible useful applications of spread spectrum digitalimages, such as sensitive secret keys, random uniform distribution of pixels in Crypto system in secure and synchronize communication

Determinants of Undernutrition among Children under Age 5 in the Puntland State of Somalia

The purpose of this study was to investigate the determinants of nutritional status among children under age 5 (0-59 months) in Puntland. Undernutrition is a global challenge, it does not only adversely affect short‐ and long‐term health and economic well‐being of children but it is also a leading contributor to death and disability globally. Undernutrition short-term effects include mortality and morbidity where long-term effects are that the children do not reach their full developmental potential and would have poor cognitive performance, which in turn has consequences on the country’s economic productivity. Nutritional status of the Somali children in Puntland is relatively poor due to many reasons such as low economic conditions of Somali households, lack of food security and severe drought that has affected the country in recent years and among other factors. This study used data from the Puntland Health and Demographic Survey 2020 which was conducted by the Department of Statistics at Puntland Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation with technical support from UNFPA Somalia. The analysis used stunting, wasting, and underweight as dependent variables, while the independent variables were children, maternal, and household characteristics. Bivariate and multivariate Logistic regression models were performed to analyze the determinants of nutritional status among the children. The study showed a significant association between children’s nutritional status and most of the explanatory variables under study. Place of residence, gender of household head, wealth index, source of drinking water, source of energy for cooking, toilet facility, mother’s age, marital status, education, breastfeeding, ANC visits, BMI, work status, child’s sex, child’s age, birth order and size at birth have significant associations with children’s nutrition status. The study found that most variables in child, maternal, and household characteristics were significantly associated with stunting and wasting among children under age five.  Based on these findings, the research recommends that a multi-sectoral approach is needed to address undernutrition in Puntland state. Combined nutrition programmes from different sectors in line with National Development Plans (NDP) need to be designed to address the underlying causes of acute and chronic malnutrition

A Generalized National Planning Approach for Admission Capacity in Higher Education: A Nonlinear Integer Goal Programming Model with a Novel Differential Evolution Algorithm

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a nonlinear integer goal programming model (NIGPM) for solving the general problem of admission capacity planning in a country as a whole. The work aims to satisfy most of the required key objectives of a country related to the enrollment problem for higher education. The system general outlines are developed along with the solution methodology for application to the time horizon in a given plan. The up-to-date data for Saudi Arabia is used as a case study and a novel evolutionary algorithm based on modified differential evolution (DE) algorithm is used to solve the complexity of the NIGPM generated for different goal priorities. The experimental results presented in this paper show their effectiveness in solving the admission capacity for higher education in terms of final solution quality and robustness

Generalized Interval Valued Neutrosophic Graphs of First Type

In this paper, motivated by the notion of generalized single valued neutrosophic graphs of first type, we defined a new neutrosophic graphs named generalized interval valued neutrosophic graphs of first type (GIVNG1) and presented a matrix representation for it and studied few properties of this new concept. The concept of GIVNG1 is an extension of generalized fuzzy graphs (GFG1) and generalized single valued neutrosophic of first type (GSVNG1)

Prospective study of ultrasound guided percutaneous tracheostomy in critically ill patients in Zagazig University Hospitals in Egypt

Background: Before doing percutaneous tracheostomy (PCT), studies have shown that mapping the neck region with ultrasound (US) is beneficial. Objective: This study aimed to check the effectiveness of ultrasound guided percutaneous tracheostomy for patients in critical condition.Patients and Methods: 24 mechanically ventilated patients at the Otorhinolaryngology Department and the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit of Zagazig University Hospital who were indicted for elective ultrasonography guided percutaneous tracheostomy in the period from June 2021 to December 2021.Results: The mean incision length was less than 2 cm and the duration of procedure was 22.08 minutes while the average duration of intubation was 13.25 days.75% of patients had excellent, 12.5% of patients were good, and 12.5% were unsatisfactory, for ease of ultrasonic visualization. Conclusion: Using ultrasound to guide the percutaneous tracheostomy operation could be an effective and less invasive technique

Cryptographic adaptation of the middle square generator

    Get PDF
Currently, cryptography plays a major role in various computer and technological applications. With the high number of internet users, the use of cryptography to provide information security has become a priority. Several applications such as e-mails, electronic banking, medical databases and e-commerce require the exchange of private information. While, if the connection is not secure, this sensitive information can be attacked. The best-known cryptographic systems rely on the generation of random numbers, which are fundamental in various cryptographic applications such as key generation and data encryption. In what follows, we want to use pseudo-random sequences generated by the middle square generator. In this work, it must be possible to estimate that the data produced has random characteristics, knowing that the algorithm used is deterministic. Overall, this paper focuses on the testing of pseudo-random sequences generated by the middle square generator and its use in data encryption
