Ranking in Distributed Uncertain Database Environments

    Get PDF
Distributed data processing is a major field in nowadays applications. Many applications collect and process data from distributed nodes to gain overall results. Large amount of data transfer and network delay made data processing in a centralized manner a hard operation representing an important problem. A very common way to solve this problem is ranking queries. Ranking or top-k queries concentrate only on the highest ranked tuples according to user's interest. Another issue in most nowadays applications is data uncertainty. Many techniques were introduced for modeling, managing, and processing uncertain databases. Although these techniques were efficient, they didn't deal with distributed data uncertainty. This paper deals with both data uncertainty and distribution based on ranking queries. A novel framework is proposed for ranking distributed uncertain data. The framework has a suite of novel algorithms for ranking data and monitoring updates. These algorithms help in reducing the communication rounds used and amount of data transmitted while achieving efficient and effective ranking. Experimental results show that the proposed framework has a great impact in reducing communication cost compared to other techniques.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i4.592

    Get PDF
Breast cancer is a major health care problem that affects more than one million women yearly. While it is traditionally thought of as a disease of the industrialized world, around 45% of breast cancer cases and 55% of breast cancer deaths occur in low and middle income countries. Managing breast cancer in low income countries poses a different set of challenges including access to screening, stage at presentation, adequacy of management and availability of therapeutic interventions. In this paper, we will review the challenges faced in the management of breast cancer in low and middle income countries

    Get PDF
The current study indicated that the complicated sequellae of traumatic reticuloperitonitis (TRP) in cattle could be efficiently diagnosed by using of ultrasonography and some other diagnostic tools. The affections in these cases included reticulum and spleen with extension to one or more of the other organs such as rumen and abomasum. This study included two groups of animals; one of them kept as a control one (n.=16) and the other was a diseased group (n.= 12). All animals were subjected to clinical examination, whole blood profiling, blood serum biochemical assay, radiography and ultrasonographic examination. Rumenotomy was carried out in some cases. The reticulum was mostly displaced in cases of complicated TRP by a distance of 3-6 cm. Sometimes, the reticulum was not displaced such as in case of diaphragmatic hernia. The reticular contractions in the complicated traumatic cows were either reduced to 2 or 1/3mins, or completely reduced to 0/3mins. Reticular abscess and peritoneal effusions were imaged in all these diseased cases. Here, Vagus indigestion syndrome and diaphragmatic hernia were successfully diagnosed by using of ultrasonography with the aid of radiography and rumenotomy. Ultrasonography was useful in imaging non metal objects (Ropes and plastic tubes) within the rumen especially in cases of severe ruminal distension

Investment casting process (IC) plays a major role in the modern manufacturing process in providing an economical means of mass production components with intricate shape and complex geometry as demand in various crucial applications including aerospace, automotive, military, biomedical and others. This casting technique, develop shell mould fabrication by coating the required pattern with a refractory mixture which offers the complex geometrical shape and sizes parts to be cast. However, the modern IC approach in shell mould production suffers from zircon’s cost and supply instability as it is the main material to be used. Zircon uses as refractory filler for slurry production, and also in the form of sand used as stucco particles, is favoured by the investment casting facilities and industries as it exhibits the most versatile properties such as low thermal expansion and low reactivity to the metal to be cast. During the period of zircon supply shortage, many facilities introduce several alternatives. Currently, the step taken to reduce the cost of primary slurry material is by using some alternate refractory material like, alumina, silica, to be used with zircon for shell mould production. In relation to that, several researches continue to search for alternatives approach for shell mould materials. This research introduces the alternative method in fabricating investment casting shell mould as recognized from investment casting industry located in Sungai Puar of Bukittingi Padang Indonesia. This industry employs several local resources to fabricate the shell mould. These materials consist of rice husk ash (RHA), and two types of bentonite clays. The bentonite clays were obtained nearly from Kota Payakumbuh in the western provinces. However, this industry suffers from weak shell mould strength and need to be investigated and consulted. In this paper, the investigation on shell mould strength made from rice husk ash (RHA), and bentonite clays were conducted. The strength was measured by its modulus of rupture (MOR) performed in 3 points flexural bending test. The green and fired shell mould strength was determined from five type of slurry composition. The results revealed that the highest green and fired strength obtained were 0.157 MPa and 0.361 MPa from shell mould sample C of RHA (46%) and bentonite (54%) of its composition

Psychophysical studies are elemental ways to describe sound perception which includes the identification of perceptual differences in children, young and older adults. This study summarizes various psychophysical abilities with aims to provide better understanding in the perceptual development of normal hearing subjects. This study investigated frequency resolution, frequency discrimination and temporal resolution abilities in two age groups (adults and children). These groups consist of 20 normal hearing adults (mean + SD: 31.4 + 9.0 years) and 10 normal hearing children (mean + SD: 78.8 + 25 months) with behavioural thresholds of ≤ 10 dBHL at octave frequencies between 250 Hz and 4 KHz. Frequency resolution test using the notched noise masking technique showed the children’s group had significantly larger filter bandwidths as compared to the adult group (One-way ANOVA: F = 27.61, p < 0.001). Temporal Modulation Transfer Function (TMTF) at modulation frequencies 10 Hz, 50 Hz and 150 Hz obtained from adults were significantly lower as compared to the children’s group also indicating an age related effect. (One-way ANOVA: 10 Hz: F = 23.44, p < 0.001; 50 Hz: F = 26.84, p < 0.001; 150 Hz: F = 259.34, p < 0.001). Pearson r correlations also showed significantly strong negative linear correlation between age across all test modulation frequencies (10 Hz: r = - 0.64, p < 0.001; 50 Hz: r = - 0.66, p < 0.001; 150 Hz: r = - 0.92, p < 0.001). Frequency discrimination tests at 500 Hz and 4000 Hz showed no significant difference between groups (One way ANOVA: Difference Limen of Frequency (DLF) 500 Hz: F = 1.64, p = 0.21; DLF 4000 Hz: F = 2.13, p = 0.156). Pearson r correlation also showed no significant linear correlation between groups for both frequency difference limen tests (DLF 500 Hz: r = -0.235, p = 0.211; DLF 4000 Hz; r = -0.503, p = 0.074). In summary, the coding processes of auditory information are different in adults and children and maturity of some processes may take place later in life and even declines at some point of age. With addition of hearing impairment, outcome of a successful rehabilitation programme can be affected

A generic database forensic investigation process model

    Get PDF
Database Forensic investigation is a domain which deals with database contents and their metadata to reveal malicious activities on database systems. Even though it is still new, but due to the overwhelming challenges and issues in the domain, this makes database forensic become a fast growing and much sought after research area. Based on observations made, we found that database forensic suffers from having a common standard which could unify knowledge of the domain. Therefore, through this paper, we present the use of Design Science Research (DSR) as a research methodology to develop a Generic Database Forensic Investigation Process Model (DBFIPM). From the creation of DBFIPM, five common forensic investigation processes have been proposed namely, the i) identification, ii) collection, iii) preservation, iv) analysis and v) presentation process. From the DBFIPM, it allows the reconciliation of concepts and terminologies of all common databases forensic investigation processes. Thus, this will potentially facilitate the sharing of knowledge on database forensic investigation among domain stakeholders
