In Indonesia, especially in the decade of 2000s, Japanese comic style was adapted and mimicked by Indonesian comic artists that tried to resurrect Indonesian comics industry that collapsed in the 1980s era. These comics were published by PT Elex Media Komputindo. There are possibilities that these comic artists indirectly also influenced by American and European comics imported and published in Indonesia at the end of 1980 decade. At the same time, this is an era where these comic artists have possibilities of great significant visual input before Japanese comics influenced them in the 1990s. So, the American and European comics could possibly had an impact for local comic artists. The research was done by defining visual storytelling theories before having an insight of the influence of foreign comics to the local comics. These theories would serve as a defining frame for American, European, Japanese comics to describe the influence on Indonesian comics. Some Indonesian comics published by PT Elex Media Komputindo at 2004-2008 span were used as case studies. From the research studies it had been discovered that American comics have the tendencies to visualize ideal form of human being in heroic acts. European comics have the tendencies to visualize everyday, ordinary characters doing adventures in extraordinary places. Japanese comics have the tendencies to visualize a journey story of a warrior in having his or her skills improved with in depth personal storytelling.Indonesian comics published by PT Elex Media Komputindo at 2004-2008 span had tendencies to be extensively influenced by Japanese comics. It could also be suggested by the restraining Japanese comics format proposed to the comic artists by the publisher. But on the other hand, Japanese comics were populer during 2000s decade, making the Japanese comics the main comic references for the comic artists. The research also discovered that American and European comics that were read also give some minor influences for the comic artist

The classic foundations of capital accumulation in Piketty

    Get PDF

Pemikiran Hamka tentang cara hidup matrilineal masyarakat Minangkabau

Combined endoscopic endonasal transpterygoid and sublabial transmaxillary approaches for a large infratemporal fossa trigeminal schwannoma

Background Trigeminal schwannomas (TSs) with solitary extracranial location are rare, and surgical excision is challenging. In recent years, the endoscopic endonasal transmaxillary transpterygoid approach (EETPA) has been advocated as an effective strategy for TSs in the infratemporal fossa (ITF). Method We describe the steps of the EETPA combined with the sublabial transmaxillary approach for the surgical excision of a giant mandibular schwannoma of the ITF. Indications, advantages, and approach-specific complications are also discussed. The main surgical steps are shown in an operative video. Conclusion A combined EETPA and sublabial transmaxillary approach represents a safe and effective option for the surgical excision of extracranial TSs

Saka: A Culture-Specific Disorder In Malaysia And Its Emic And Etic Patterns

Saka is a medical disorder that can be found in the Malay-speaking world of Malaysia and Indonesia. The researchers focused on the Malaysian state of Kelantan, which is located on the East coast of Malaysia. There is not much literature available that looks into that phenomenon. In this article, the research team wants to illustrate this disorder both from an etic and emic point of view. The consideration of different perspectives helps to get a holistic picture. The emic viewpoint documents the folk beliefs, while the etic view looks into the scientific discussions. Furthermore, it is discussed whether saka can be considered as a Culture-Bound Syndrom (CBS). The research team followed a qualitative approach which should complete the picture. Unstructured interviews were conducted in which the respondents had the opportunity to explain their perspective about saka. It was discovered that saka has unique features and is closely interwoven to the Malay culture

The precuneal interhemispheric, trans-tentorial corridor to the pineal region and brainstem, surgical anatomy, and case illustration

Background The pineal region and dorsal midbrain are among the most challenging surgical targets. To approach lesions in this region that harbor a superior to inferior long axis, we describe the basic steps of the precuneal, interhemispheric, trans-tentorial approach and illustrate anatomical landmarks of this established, but not so popular, surgical trajectory.Method To study the anatomical landmarks and safety of this approach, the neurovascular anatomy was studied on 22 sides of 11 formalin-fixed latex-injected anatomical specimens. A step-by-step dissection of the precuneal interhemispheric trans-tentorial approach and study of the key anatomical landmarks was performed. An illustrative clinical case of a pontomesencephalic cavernous malformation (CM) resected through this approach is also detailed. Results The mean distance from the transverse sinus to the most posterior cortical vein draining into the superior sagittal sinus was 6.4 cm. The mean distance from the calcarine sulcus to the most posterior cortical vein was 5.3 cm. Key steps of the dissection are as follows: craniotomy exposing the posterior aspect of the superior sagittal sinus (SSS), durotomy and gentle retraction of the SSS edge, dissection of the interhemispheric fissure, linear incision of the tentorium that extends anteriorly to the incisura and lateral reflection of the tentorium, and arachnoidal dissection and exposure of the cerebellomesencephalic fissure. Conclusion The precuneal, interhemispheric, trans-tentorial approach affords excellent access to the falcotentorial junction, splenium, pineal region, quadrigeminal cistern, and dorsal pons once the cerebellomesencephalic fissure has been dissected
