Since prehistoric period, man has used intelligence to create mechanisms that reduce effort and increase comfort. By mastering the fire technique, he improved his food, lighting and security. He discovered the power of the waters, the winds and tamed animals, using the strength of horses and oxen for work. Thousands of years passed until a fact marked the history of energy: the invention of the steam engine, an energetic symbol of the Industrial Revolution. It was just over 100 years ago that electrical energy emerged, symbol of the Information Age. Through it, other forms of energy could be transformed efficiently, such as: heat, lighting and mechanical energy. Electricity is something special for the development of activities, but in view of the scarcity of natural energy resources and the increase in consumers resulting in price increases, the conscious use of energy is increasingly encouraged, seeking alternatives to improve quality. and efficiency of the energy to be supplied. With the increase in technology, and increase in consumers, the concern about the energy efficiency of the energy distribution system grows, with a view to the quality of supply and economy in the sector for the year 2029, an energy saving of 23, is expected. 1 million tons of oil equivalent, of which 16% corresponds to electricity savings and 84% to fuel savings, around 10% higher than those foreseen in the PDE 2029, in order to adequately deal with the implementation risks. For electricity savings in the year 2029, the industrial sector represents about 35% of the total, followed by the residential and commercial and public buildings sectors, which represent 20% and 16% of the total, respectively. The service sector, including the public lighting and sanitation sectors, but without the participation of commercial and public buildings, represents approximately 21% of the total. In this context, the general objective of this work is to analyze the considerations of the PEDF together with the PDE 2029 considering the guidelines, studies and uncertainties, practical application in an industrial environment, showing the energy gain, where a lighting Retrofit with reduction of the consumption, generating economic gain as a result of energy efficiency, which consists of changing from less efficient to more efficient lighting, considering the replacement depending on the areas, changing IP67 closed hermetic luminaires and changing lamps to LED, generating a total reduction of approximately 25% of the system power with reduced maintenance cost and risk reduction.

&nbsp

Bridging the gaps: a global review of intersections of violence against women and violence against children.

BACKGROUND: The international community recognises violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC) as global human rights and public health problems. Historically, research, programmes, and policies on these forms of violence followed parallel but distinct trajectories. Some have called for efforts to bridge these gaps, based in part on evidence that individuals and families often experience multiple forms of violence that may be difficult to address in isolation, and that violence in childhood elevates the risk of violence against women. METHODS: This article presents a narrative review of evidence on intersections between VAC and VAW - including sexual violence by non-partners, with an emphasis on low- and middle-income countries. RESULTS: We identify and review evidence for six intersections: 1) VAC and VAW have many shared risk factors. 2) Social norms often support VAW and VAC and discourage help-seeking. 3) Child maltreatment and partner violence often co-occur within the same household. 4) Both VAC and VAW can produce intergenerational effects. 5) Many forms of VAC and VAW have common and compounding consequences across the lifespan. 6) VAC and VAW intersect during adolescence, a time of heightened vulnerability to certain kinds of violence. CONCLUSIONS: Evidence of common correlates suggests that consolidating efforts to address shared risk factors may help prevent both forms of violence. Common consequences and intergenerational effects suggest a need for more integrated early intervention. Adolescence falls between and within traditional domains of both fields and deserves greater attention. Opportunities for greater collaboration include preparing service providers to address multiple forms of violence, better coordination between services for women and for children, school-based strategies, parenting programmes, and programming for adolescent health and development. There is also a need for more coordination among researchers working on VAC and VAW as countries prepare to measure progress towards 2030 Sustainable Development Goals

Urban Heritage Rehabilitation: Institutional Stakeholders' Contributions to Improve Implementation of Urban and Building Regulations

    Get PDF
Climate change, natural hazards, and human actions are threatening cultural heritage in urban areas. More than ever, building regulations’ procedures and criteria are essential to guarantee the protection and safeguarding of urban areas and their buildings. These procedures and criteria are crucial to assist stakeholders in decision-making, especially when facing rapid transitions and transformative changes in urban heritage areas. Several institutional stakeholders in charge of urban heritage protection strengthen the need for a better implementation of building regulations through flexible criteria to support intervention procedures in buildings with different features and in different contexts. Under this topic, the present study uses a twofold method. Firstly, the authors analyze and compare the urban and building regulations of three Southern European countries, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, concerning procedures and criteria directed to the built heritage; secondly, they highlight and compare the views of different institutional stakeholders from the same three countries, at different levels (national, regional, and municipal), to understand the impact of the implementation of the regulations on the ground. The findings show the relevance of the institutional stakeholders’ views to improve the regulations and their practice. They highlight the need to promote inventory and cataloging procedures, as well as flexible criteria when dealing with urban heritage buildings

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to verify the torque precision of metallic brackets with MBT prescription using the canine brackets as the representative sample of six commercial brands. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty maxillary and 20 mandibular canine brackets of one of the following commercial brands were selected: 3M Unitek, Abzil, American Orthodontics, TP Orthodontics, Morelli and Ortho Organizers. The torque angle, established by reference points and lines, was measured by an operator using an optical microscope coupled to a computer. The values were compared to those established by the MBT prescription. RESULTS: The results showed that for the maxillary canine brackets, only the Morelli torque (-3.33º) presented statistically significant difference from the proposed values (-7º). For the mandibular canines, American Orthodontics (-6.34º) and Ortho Organizers (-6.25º) presented statistically significant differences from the standards (-6º). Comparing the brands, Morelli presented statistically significant differences in comparison with all the other brands for maxillary canine brackets. For the mandibular canine brackets, there was no statistically significant difference between the brands. CONCLUSIONS: There are significant variations in torque values of some of the brackets assessed, which would clinically compromise the buccolingual positioning of the tooth at the end of orthodontic treatment

The co-occurrence of intimate partner violence and violence against children:A systematic review on associated factors in low- and middle-income countries

Violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC) are public health issues of global concern. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a commonly occurring form of VAW and there is evidence to suggest that IPV and VAC frequently co-occur within the same families. This systematic literature review searched for studies published in any language between 1st January 2000 to 16th February 2021 and identified 33 studies that provided findings for co-occurring IPV and VAC in 24 low- and middle-income countries (PROSPERO: CRD42020180179). These studies were split into subgroups based on the types of co-occurring violence they present and meta-analyses were conducted to calculate pooled odds ratios (ORs) within these subgroups. Our results indicate a significant association between IPV and VAC, with all pooled ORs showing a significant positive association between the two. Almost half of the studies focused exclusively on co-occurrence between male-to-female IPV and female caregiver-to-child VAC; few authors reported on male caregiver-to-child violence. Only three studies identified risk factors for co-occurring IPV and VAC, and those that did suggested conflicting findings on the risks associated with maternal age, alcohol and drug use, and parental education level. We also found incongruity in the violence definitions and measurements used across studies. Future research should aim to develop more consistent definitions and measurements for co-occurrence and move beyond solely examining dyadic and unidirectional violence occurrence in families; this will allow us to better understand the interrelationships between these different forms of abuse

This article analyzes the influences of the World Bank and the World Health Organization as collective intellectuals and instruments of imperialist capital in dependent economy countries. This processtriggers the counter-reform of the Brazilian health policy, which imposes significant changes to the Unified Health System, through the opening of the market and the privatization of public services through publicity. In this way, one criticizes the reports produced by these intellectuals during the period of the Orthodox neoliberal government of Michel Temer. From a critical-dialectical referential, bibliographical review and documentary research are used. Thus, it points out how these intellectuals integrate an orchestrated project of domination in guaranteeing the interests of capital worldwide, with emphasis on the Brazilian health policy. The publicity process aims to deepen support for a health system using the profit and the market logic, thus strengthening the hegemony of financial capital with these guidelines.
