Visiones sobre el temazcal mesoamericano: un elemento cultural polifacético

Se presenta la forma en que el temazcal o baño de vapor mesoamericano, fue reducido y simplificado por sus estudiosos a un elemento con características medicinales y terapéuticas. Esta visión se construyó en la época colonial y fue reforzada por el positivismo, quien negó otras funciones que lo caracterizaban. Es a partir de la visión del neoevolucionismo que se revalora su participación en lo sexual, social, económico y cultural, quedando al descubierto su valor polifacético.This paper examines the way in which the concept of the “temazcal” or Mesoamerican steam bath, was reduced and simplified to having only medicinal and therapeutic characteristics. This exclusively curative vision, constructed from the time of the colonial period, was reinforced by positivism which denied and attacked other functions that previously characterized the “temazcal”. Neoevolutionary visions allow for the reevaluation of “temazcal’s” sexual, social, economic and cultural aspects, and the discovery of its multifaceted values

San Felipe de Jesús o las Capuchinas: un convento olvidado

In the ancient Mexico city existed a little poor nun convent between La Celada and Acequia Real streets (now called Venustiano Carranza and 16 de Septiembre, respectively). Due to its total disappearance and the few documents about it, this convent is perhaps the less studied of all those that existed in the colony's capital. This paper shows a part of the social history of the Capuchin order, as well as the architectonic and artistic evolution of this colonial jewel. Data was obtained from the colony's archives and some other written sources (from the XVII c. until its disappearance in the second part of the XIX c.). The high price of the land is considered the cause of the convent's demolition

Rituales y actividades materiales en la antigua agricultura indígena

Resumen: Se identifican los rituales agrícolas y su relación con las actividades materiales en los cultivos, principalmente del maíz, a través del seguimiento de su ciclo completo: desde la preparación de la tierra hasta su almacenamiento. Se utilizaron principalmente los datos procedentes de las crónicas del siglo XVII, ubicadas y arregladas en orden cronológico con el ciclo de cultivo (barbecho-cosecha-almacenamiento). Se explican, además, los sentidos metafóricos y materiales, y se construyen tablas analíticas que establecen las correspondencias entre ritual y actividad material del ciclo agrícola

Alternating Hamiltonian cycles in 22-edge-colored multigraphs

A path (cycle) in a $2$-edge-colored multigraph is alternating if no two consecutive edges have the same color. The problem of determining the existence of alternating Hamiltonian paths and cycles in $2$-edge-colored multigraphs is an $\mathcal{NP}$-complete problem and it has been studied by several authors. In Bang-Jensen and Gutin's book "Digraphs: Theory, Algorithms and Applications", it is devoted one chapter to survey the last results on this topic. Most results on the existence of alternating Hamiltonian paths and cycles concern on complete and bipartite complete multigraphs and a few ones on multigraphs with high monochromatic degrees or regular monochromatic subgraphs. In this work, we use a different approach imposing local conditions on the multigraphs and it is worthwhile to notice that the class of multigraphs we deal with is much larger than, and includes, complete multigraphs, and we provide a full characterization of this class. Given a $2$-edge-colored multigraph $G$, we say that $G$ is $2$-$\mathcal{M}$-closed (resp. $2$-$\mathcal{NM}$-closed)} if for every monochromatic (resp. non-monochromatic) $2$-path $P=(x_1, x_2, x_3)$, there exists an edge between $x_1$ and $x_3$. In this work we provide the following characterization: A $2$-$\mathcal{M}$-closed multigraph has an alternating Hamiltonian cycle if and only if it is color-connected and it has an alternating cycle factor. Furthermore, we construct an infinite family of $2$-$\mathcal{NM}$-closed graphs, color-connected, with an alternating cycle factor, and with no alternating Hamiltonian cycle.Comment: 15 pages, 20 figure
