A ética do silêncio racial no contexto urbano: políticas públicas e desigualdade social no Recife, 1900-1940

Mais de meio século após o preconceito racial ter se tornado o principal alvo dos movimentos urbanos pelos direitos civis nos Estados Unidos e na África do Sul, e décadas depois do surgimento dos movimentos negros contemporâneos no Brasil, o conjunto de ferramentas legislativas criado no Brasil para promover o direito à cidade ainda adere à longa tradição brasileira de silêncio acerca da questão racial. Este artigo propõe iniciar uma exploração das raízes históricas desse fenômeno, remontando ao surgimento do silêncio sobre a questão racial na política urbana do Recife, Brasil, durante a primeira metade do século XX. O Recife foi eé um exemplo paradigmático do processo pelo qual uma cidade amplamente marcada por traços negros e africanos chegou a ser definida política e legalmente como um espaço pobre, subdesenvolvido e racialmente neutro, onde as desigualdades sociais originaram na exclusão capitalista, e não na escravidão e nas ideologias do racismo científico. Neste sentido, Recife lança luzes sobre a política urbana que se gerou sob a sombra do silêncio racial.More than half a century after racial prejudice became central to urban civil rights movements in the United States and South Africa, and decades after the emergence of Brazil’s contemporary Black movements, Brazil's internationally recognized body of rights-to-the-city legislation still adheres to the country's long historical tradition of racial silence. This article explores the historical roots of this phenomenon by focusing on the emergence of racial silence in Recife, Brazil during the first half of the 20th Century. Recife was and remains a paradigmatic example of the process through which a city marked by its Black and African roots came to be legally and politically defined as a poor, underdeveloped and racially neutral space, where social inequalities derived from capitalist exclusion rather than from slavery and scientific racism. Ponto a ponto : saberes manuais e construção de imagens

A presente pesquisa de Doutorado em Artes Visuais, ênfase em Poéticas Visuais, articula questões geradas pela prática artística de Raquel Alberti nos últimos quatro anos. Aborda a recorrência da figura da mão como um falar sobre os saberes manuais e sobre a estreita relação desta produção com os diagramas do trabalho artesanal, o que insere o trabalho no terreno do pensamento diagramático. Analisa sua realização ponto a ponto, o recurso da estrutura da grade em relação às técnicas de construção de imagens, às impressões gráficas e às imagens digitais, que se apresentam em profusão atualmente, especialmente diante da situação de isolamento social imposto pela pandemia da Covid-19. Essa reflexão se debruça também sobre o fazer que se desdobra no dia a dia e se relaciona ao cotidiano feminino doméstico, pensando essa produção como diários gráficos. Reflete, ainda, sobre o papel que esse tipo de trabalho empreende na reparação, conjugando aspectos relacionais e de reelaboração do sujeito.The present Doctoral research in Visual Arts, with emphasis in Visual Poetics, articulates issues generated by the artistic practice of Raquel Alberti in the last four years. It approaches the recurrence of the figure of the hand as a way to talk about manual knowledge, and about the close relationship of this production with the crafts diagrams, which places the work in the field of diagrammatic thinking. Analizes its dot by dot construction, and the use of the grid in relation to image making techniques, to graphic printings, and to digital images, which are profusely presented nowadays, especially in the face of the situation of social isolation imposed by the Covid-19 Pandemic. This reflection also focuses on the practice that unfolds day by day and relates to the domestic feminine everyday, thinking this production as graphical diaries. It also reflects on the role that this type of work plays in reparation, combining relational aspects and re-elaboration of the self

A presente pesquisa foi elaborada a partir de um projeto prático, realizado no período entre 2010 e 2012. Desse modo, a reflexão que segue foi desenvolvida a partir dos procedimentos de trabalho, procurando identificar as recorrências, as referências, as escolhas, e suas consequentes implicações conceituais. O objeto de pesquisa compreende a troca de desejos por desenhos, feita através da internet e usando as redes sociais. Buscou-se aprofundar os importantes aspectos relacionais presentes nessa dinâmica, bem como aqueles relativos ao meio em que as trocas foram realizadas. A instauração e a articulação de três coleções distintas objetivou organizar os documentos de trabalho e as questões que concernem a apropriação, refletindo sobre como essas práticas se articulam e contribuem para a ampliação das possibilidades do trabalho criativo.The herein presented research was elaborated based upon the practical work executed between the years of 2010 and 2012. The following reflection was developed from work procedures, trying to identify the recurrences, the references, the choices and its resulting conceptual implications. The object of research includes the exchange of desires for drawings, made through the internet and social networks. It searched to deepen the important relational aspects present in this dynamic, as well as aspects relating to the environment in which exchanges were made. The establishment and articulation of three distinct collections aimed to organize the working documents and the issues that concern appropriation, reflecting on how these practices work together and contribute to the expansion of creative possibilities

Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy (4th edition)

In 2008, we published the first set of guidelines for standardizing research in autophagy. Since then, this topic has received increasing attention, and many scientists have entered the field. Our knowledge base and relevant new technologies have also been expanding. Thus, it is important to formulate on a regular basis updated guidelines for monitoring autophagy in different organisms. Despite numerous reviews, there continues to be confusion regarding acceptable methods to evaluate autophagy, especially in multicellular eukaryotes. Here, we present a set of guidelines for investigators to select and interpret methods to examine autophagy and related processes, and for reviewers to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of reports that are focused on these processes. These guidelines are not meant to be a dogmatic set of rules, because the appropriateness of any assay largely depends on the question being asked and the system being used. Moreover, no individual assay is perfect for every situation, calling for the use of multiple techniques to properly monitor autophagy in each experimental setting. Finally, several core components of the autophagy machinery have been implicated in distinct autophagic processes (canonical and noncanonical autophagy), implying that genetic approaches to block autophagy should rely on targeting two or more autophagy-related genes that ideally participate in distinct steps of the pathway. Along similar lines, because multiple proteins involved in autophagy also regulate other cellular pathways including apoptosis, not all of them can be used as a specific marker for bona fide autophagic responses. Here, we critically discuss current methods of assessing autophagy and the information they can, or cannot, provide. Our ultimate goal is to encourage intellectual and technical innovation in the field
