    Get PDF
Information on the health status in modern society and developed countries depicts an increase in noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, overweight, obesity, and metabolic syndrome. An examination of factors related to this increase shows that there is a shift in the daily practices of the people, and especially children in all ages, as they grow older toward a more sedentary lifestyle. This chapter concentrated on the term used to describe lifelong changes in function that follow a particular event in an earlier period of the life span, which is called programming. These include the lifestyle in the fetus, pregnant woman, and parents; all of which affect pronounce metabolic syndrome in later life of adult. Therefore, regular physical activity and living systematic healthy lifestyle in the prenatal stages are of importance to genetic modification of inheritance for future generations

KINEMATICAL ANALYSES OF TWO STYLES IN BREAST STROKES SWIMMING

    Get PDF
In order to determine the best wave style technique for the youth Jordanian breaststrokers and to accurately pin point the differences in the kinematics variables a 3D analysis was conducted. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate some kinematics variables of both styles: the Hip Wave Undulation (HWU) and the Hip Wave Undulation with Feet Breaking Surface (HWUBS), and to compare the variables: Stroke Length SL, Stroke Rate SR, Velocity V, Stroke Time ST, Hip Displacement HD and Feet Displacement FD. Subjects were assigned to swim at their maximum speed with both styles at different order so that the best trial according to their time was analyzed. Both males and females showed an intriguing feature of the CG body velocity curve per cycle and both had decreasing velocity in slow rate when they used (HWUBS). Thus, one may conclude that an exaggerated hip undulation was executed to allow for feet to break the surface of the water which affected their velocity reduction during the stroke cycle

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between impulse and change of momentum in three types of ground take-off. Three athletes from the swimming, sprinting and volleyball national teams executed three trials from an AMTI force platform synchronized with video capturing system of starting take-off. APAS software was used for further analysis. Results indicate that the swimmers and the sprinter are less capable of getting equal impulse relationship to the change of momentum due to deviation of reaction forces into the desired motion

Abstract In both developed and developing countries, the construction industry is considered to be one of the most significant industries in terms of its impact on health and safety of the working population. Construction industry is both economically and socially important. However, the construction industry is also recognized to be the most hazardous. The objectives of this research are to investigate the safety performance in the construction sites. The data were collected from the contractors, consultant, and owners by using questionnaire to evaluate the safety performance in the construction sites. In total, there were 40 questionnaires which were distributed to respondents, with a response rate of 75%. The results show that there was still a lack of commitment from the government, the insurance company, the labor ministry, the owners, consultants, and also the contractors to improving safety performance on the construction sites. The suggestion is to improve the safety performance on the construction sites. The government should follow up the safety performance by visiting the construction sites. The insurance company should be more active in visiting the construction sites. The owners should be more active towards the safety by controlling, visiting the process in the construction sites. The contractors have to train the workers and promote the safety culture and follow up the safety performance. The consultants should control all the tools in the construction sites to insure that those tools are safe. Keywords: Safety performance, construction project, Tripol

The purpose of this study were to investigate the best Run-up length contributin to Long Jump distance, and to investigate the relationship between the Run-up and the klnematics' variables for which a regression formula was established to predict jumping performance that can be used for athletes selections. (80) Long Jumping students were served as a subject in this stUdy in whicf1 best 11 athletes ages range "13·15" had been assIgned 3 trials In six Run-ups lengths and these were randomly ordered to each subject (10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 m). The kinematics' variables were calculated at the center of gravity of the body and they were take off angle (TOA), take off velocity(TOV), horizontal lake off veJocity(HTV), vertical take off ve ocity(VTV), take off height(TOH) and Run-up velocity RUV). Results showed that (20) meters Run-up length was the best for the SUbject in the study and that the relationship between the horizontal take off velocity and the jump distance was strong and proporti nal. A proVisional prediction formula was established and it was suggested to adopt shorter run-up length for the primary students in Jordan to acf1lave better klnematical relation

    Get PDF
This study explores employees' attitudes to, and perceptions of, ESTEDA'A, which is a downsizing method used in downsizing the Jordanian Civil Service. This study compares and contrasts the perceptions of employees who have been downsized by the method of ESTEDA'A regarding its organisational justice, and considers the moderating role of ESTEDA'A type (voluntary or compulsory) in reducing negative attitudes towards downsizing. Research was undertaken in a positivist paradigm. The employees' perceptions and attitudes were assessed in respect of the organisational justice associated with ESTEDA'A, which has two facets: distributive justice and procedural justice. Several factors that potentially affect these perceptions were " identified from the literature of downsizing and organisational justice. Consequently, nine hypotheses were formed and statistically tested to achieve the aims of this study. The required data were collected via self-administered postal questionnaire, which was sent to a stratified-systemic-random sample of 843 (30% of the population) ex-civil servants who have been awarded ESTEDA'A (ESTEDA'A leavers), stratified by the year of awarding ESTEDA'A. Response rate was 36% (= 306/843) of the sample and 58% (= 306/522) of the active sample (sample size less unreachable and ineligible cases). The findings indicate that when compared to compulsory cases, voluntary cases reported more positive attitudes to, and perceptions of, ESTEDA'A. The only exception was the perceived distributive justice. Working after ESTEDA'A, conditional upon wanting to work, significantly influenced the perceptions of distributive. justice and procedural justice. Unemployment rates, conditional upon working after ESTEDA'A, significantly influenced the perceived distributive justice, but not procedural justice. Within those who worked after ESTEDA'A, the new job level and type, significantly contributed to the variances in the perceived distributive justice (7.7%) and procedural justice (6.2%). Other results were found. It was concluded that the experienced decision control might hinder the effect of justification on the judgment of distributive justice and procedural justice

    Get PDF
Objectives: Body mass index (BMI), total body fat (TBF), and physical activity in relation to obesity and overweight prevalence among Omani students were studied. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 202 Omani students (101 males and 101 females) from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) was carried out. Data were collected by interview using a structured questionnaire. Weight, TBF and physical activity score (PAS) were measured using TANITA scales, and height measured using a standardised measuring tape. Results: Subjects were classified based on BMI as: underweight (2.48%), normal weight (69.31%), overweight (26.73%) and obese (1.49%). According to TBF, 32.67% of students had low body fat scores (BFS), 26.73% high BFS and 22.28% very high BFS. Low BFS was insignificantly less likely with the increase in the mean hours of weekly exercising, (odds ratio [OR] = 0.708; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.448, 1.119) and the PAS (OR = 0.728; 95% CI= 0.562, 0.944). Among high and very high BFS students, the mean hours of weekly exercising (6.73±1.20) and physical activity scores (7.51±1.67) were higher than those of healthy students. Nutrition knowledge was higher among healthy students compared to low BFS, and high and very high BFS subjects. Higher nutrition knowledge was associated with a non-significant lower risk of low BFS (OR = 0.986; 95% CI = 0.958, 1.015), high and very high BFS (OR = 0.984; 95% CI = 0.961, 1.008). Conclusion: High and very high BFS were prevalent among subjects with sedentary lifestyles. Nutritional and physical activity interventions should be introduced to combat the problem of overweight students

Assessment of Health Related Fitness among Inmates of Reform and Rehabilitation Centers in Jordan

    Get PDF
The Directorate of General Security in Jordan has created sport fields in new prisons, taking into consideration its importance for inmates. This is due to the belief that prisoners should be encouraged to spend interesting times, discharge their repressed energies, and to improve their physical and mental states in addition to strengthening their social relations. Providing members and specialist officers to attend to the inmates may decrease the problems inside prisons. This, however, can be achieved by engaging them with different kinds of physical activities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the level of health-related fitness of the inmates in the reform and rehabilitation centers in Jordan and to differentiate between them according to the time span spent in the prison. The study sample consisted of 208 inmates who volunteered to participate in the tests out of 2400 inmates in the center. They were classified into different age categories and their condemnation period. The tests contained the health related physical fitness elements: muscle power, respiratory endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, and body composition in terms of body mass index. Results showed that there were statistical differences between the categories in this study in some tests. In conclusion, inmates should undergo physical programs to prevent them from contacting non-communicable diseases due to hypokinetic and sedentary life
