In the thesis some images of the topic "East meets west" were created, and some prints were planned for the company Globe Hope. The aim was to gain a better understanding of Turkish and Finnish cultural differences and similarities. What happens when the "East meets West"? In order to answer this question, information on the Turkish and Finnish roots were sought. For the planning process the swan was also presented in more detail as a symbol of the Finnish culture and the wolf as a symbol of the Turkish culture. In the design process information from the past had to be taken into consideration, but also the perception of the present-day Turkish and Finnish cultures was seen as important. Information about Turkish perceptions of their own national identity today were gained by discussions with the Turks. The Finnish culture was represented by the author herself. All this information created the author's experience in both cultures. In the design process, the self-made paintings and own experience of Finnish and Turkish cultures were the source of inspiration. Work practice at Globe Hope already produced a lot of ideas in terms of prints, and print designing continued immediately after the work practice. The result of the work was the improved understanding of the East-West differences and similarities. Some own mental images were born and from those images some prints for Globe Hope were created

In addition to competing with each other, sports teams must have the necessary operating income and reach a sufficient fan base in order to sustain their existence. It is known that the perceived value of these individuals, who are considered as consumers, is one of the most important factors in their loyalty to their teams. In this context, in order for sports marketers and managers to reach a strong fanbase, it is necessary to evaluate the perceived value of consumers as an effective parameter. Therefore, in this study, it is aimed to introduce the Consumers’ Perceived Value of Sport Games Scale, which allows evaluating the perceived value of consumers with its multidimensional structure, to the Turkish literature. The research was carried out through analysis of Turkey 2018-2019 season Spor Toto Super League in the two sets of data received from 18 teams fans. Data were obtained from 254 participants for exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and from 202 participants for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The EFA results showing that the factor loads of the items that load five different dimensions range from .46 to .87 and the CFA results showing that the RMSEA value is .081 and the other goodness of fit indices are among the acceptable values, showing that the structure tested in Turkish culture is consistent with the original scale. It was observed that the Cronbach alpha coefficients of the relevant sub-dimensions ranged from .83 to .89. As a result, it was understood that the measuring tool whose structure was tested was consistent with the original scale, and in line with the findings, the scale was also valid and reliable in Turkish culture. Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file. Language is one of the core elements that countries build up their cultures on and is a very significant tool to provide insight for the nature of their way of life. Since language has strong relation with culture, common definition on culture describes it as: “shared beliefs, values and behaviors of a social group”. It’s clear to see that language and culture are two core elements for understanding and defining relations with a country. Until the dissolution of USSR, world system was consisting of bipolar nature which in effect almost for 40 years. And during those so called bipolar world years, relationship definition between states described on bloc politics and most importantly on hard power elements. However, after the end of ‘Cold War’ era, definition of the relationships got into change; countries started to create new destinations all around the world. For doing so, ‘cultural centers’ (like Goethe Institute, British Council, Confucius Institute etc.) played a crucial role for introducing their language and culture towards to foreign audiences. Most importantly, thanks to ‘Cultural Diplomacy’ concept, this type of introduction recognized as exportation of a country’s positive image towards international area. Yunus Emre Institutes, working on this manner all around the world; introducing Turkish language, art and culture towards to foreign audiences, teaching Turkish language and providing insight about Turkish art and culture is quite important for exporting Turkey’s positive image. In other words, Yunus Emre Institutes carrying on activities under the Turkey’s cultural diplomacy approach. In this paper, its aimed to explain ‘Cultural Diplomacy’ concept with Language and Culture point of view through Yunus Emre Institutes that now acknowledged as one of the main tools for Turkish diplomacy understanding

AIM: The inflammatory response, initiated by neutrophil and monocyte adhesion to endothelial cells, is important in the pathogenesis of acute coronary syndromes. Platelets play an important role in inflammatory process by interacting with monocytes and neutrophils. In this study, we investigated the effect of tirofiban on the levels of cell adhesion molecules (soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1, sICAM-1, and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, sVCAM-1) in patients with unstable angina pectoris (AP). METHODS: Thirty-five patients with unstable AP (Group I), ten patients with stable AP (Group II) and ten subjects who had angiographycally normal coronary arteries (Group III) were included the study. Group I was divided into two subgroups for the specific treatment regimens: Group IA (n = 15) received tirofiban and Group IB (n = 20) did not. Blood samples for investigating the cell adhesion molecules were drawn at zero time (baseline; 0 h) in all patients and at 72 h in Group I. RESULTS: The baseline levels of sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 were higher in Group I than in Groups II and III. They were higher in Group IA than in Group IB. However, the sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 levels decreased significantly in Group IA after tirofiban infusion. In contrast, these levels remained unchanged or were increased above the baseline value in Group IB at 72 h. CONCLUSION: The levels of cell adhesion molecules in patients with unstable AP decreased significantly after tirofiban infusion. Inhibition of platelet function by specific glycoprotein IIb/IIIa antagonists may decrease platelet-mediated inflammation and the ischemic end-point

Background: The prevalence of coronary artery anomalies (CAA) are reportedbetween 0.6–1.3% in the literature. CAA are usually asymptomatic incidental findings, but they may deteriorate coronary circulation, cause symptoms andlead to sudden cardiac death; especially in young athletes. Since interventionalprocedures are increasing rapidly for treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD) inthe modern era, comprehensive understanding of CAA is becoming progressively critical element in dealing with CAD.Materials and methods: We reviewed the database of the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory of Sani Konukoglu University Hospital in Gaziantep, Turkey. All patientswho were subjected to coronary angiography from 1998 to 2006 were included. Results: Among 53,655 coronary angiographies performed, CAA were foundin 653 patients (incidence of 1.21%); 590 (90.3%) patients had anomalies oforigin and distribution and 63 (11.7%) had coronary fistulae. Separate origins ofleft anterior descending (LAD) and left circumflex (LCX) coronary artery from theleft sinus of Valsalva was the most common anomaly (64.1%). Coronary arteriesbranching from anomalous aortic origin was the second most common anomaly(16.5%). Right coronary artery (RCA) originating from left sinus of Valsalva or leftmain coronary artery (LMCA) was observed in 55 (8.4%) patients, LCX arising fromRCA or right sinus of Valsalva (RSV) was seen in 52 (7.9%) patients and LMCA orLAD originating from RSV was seen in 14 (0.2%) patients. There were 16 (2.45%) patients with single coronary artery and 1 (0.15%) patient with LMCA originating from pulmonary artery. Conclusions: The incidence and the pattern of CAA in our patient population were similar with previous studies. Angiographic recognition of these vessels is importantbecause of their clinical significance and importance in patients undergoing coronary angioplasty or cardiac surgery

Gab1 and Mapk Signaling Are Essential in the Hair Cycle and Hair Follicle Stem Cell Quiescence

    Get PDF
SummaryGab1 is a scaffold protein that acts downstream of receptor tyrosine kinases. Here, we produced conditional Gab1 mutant mice (by K14- and Krox20-cre) and show that Gab1 mediates crucial signals in the control of both the hair cycle and the self-renewal of hair follicle stem cells. Remarkably, mutant hair follicles do not enter catagen, the destructive phase of the hair cycle. Instead, hair follicle stem cells lose quiescence and become exhausted, and thus no stem cell niches are established in the bulges. Moreover, conditional sustained activation of Mapk signaling by expression of a gain-of-function Mek1DD allele (by Krox20-cre) rescues hair cycle deficits and restores quiescence of the stem cells. Our data thus demonstrate an essential role of Gab1 downstream of receptor tyrosine kinases and upstream of Shp2 and Mapk in the regulation of the hair cycle and the self-renewal of hair follicle stem cells

Being digitally competent means having competences in all areas of DigComp: Information and data literacy, Communication and collaboration, Digital content creation, Safety and Problem-solving. More than other demographic categories, adults 55+ have a wide range of levels of digitalization. Depending on their level of competences, individuals may join self-administered online courses to improve their skills, or they may need guidance from adult educators. Taking into consideration the above situation and willing to address adult learners regardless of their initial skill levels, the proposed educational programme is carefully designed for both: self-administrated and educator-led training. It comprises five totally innovative courses that can be separately taught or can be integrated into a complex programme delivered by adult education organizations. These courses are the result of an ERASMUS+ project “Digital Facilitator for Adults 55+”. Chapter 1 introduces the methodology for designing attractive and engaging educational materials for adults’ digital skills improvement. The methodology clarifies the inputs, the development process and the expected results. An ample explanation of the five phases of the 5E instructional strategy is presented to help adult educators build a sequence of coherent and engaging learning stages. With this approach, learners are supported to think, work, gather ideas, identify their own skill levels and needs, analyse their progress, and communicate with others under the guidance of educators. Following up on the proposed methodology, in Chapter 2 researchers from Formative Footprint (Spain), TEAM4Excellence (Romania), Voluntariat Pentru Viata (Romania) and Saricam Halk Egitimi Merkezi (Turkey) developed five course modules in line with the DIGCOMP - Digital Competence Framework for Citizens. These modules address the competence areas of information and data literacy, communication and collaboration, digital content creation, safety, and problem-solving. Each course module comprises digital textbooks, videos, interactive activities and means for evaluation developed using the 5E instructional model strategy. Understanding that accessibility is one of the main components of lifelong learning education, Chapter 3 of the manual provides an overview of the integration of educational materials, tools, instruments, video tutorials as well as DIFA55+ web app in the digital educational ecosystem. Finally, the authors formulate recommendations for usability and transferability that go beyond individuals, ensuring that educational materials are user-friendly and effective while making it easier to apply successful pedagogical approaches in other complementary educational contexts or projects.Grant Agreement—2021-1-RO01-KA220-ADU-000035297, Digital Facilitator for Adults 55
