    Get PDF
Recently the development of natural fiber composite instead of synthetics fiber has lead to eco-friendly product manufacturing to meet various applications in the field of automotive, construction and manufacturing. In this present research, the effects of maleic anhydride polypropylene (MAPP) on the material characterization behaviour, mechanical properties, vibration damping properties and flammability properties of kenaf fiber and coir fiber reinforced polypropylene were investigated. Different fractions of composites with 10wt%-40wt% coir fiber (CF) and kenaf fiber (KF) content were prepared by using brabender mixer at 190 °C. The 3wt% MAPP was added during the mixing. The composites were subsequently fabricated with injection molding and hydraulic hot press to prepare the test specimens. The effect of MAPP on morphology, mechanical properties, physical properties, vibration damping properties and flammability properties of CF or KF composites were then investigated by using FTIR, SEM, tensile test, density test, transmissibility test and vertical flame test, respectively. The results revealed that the 30wt% modified kenaf fiber composite (m-PP/KF) shows the highest improvement in tensile strength compared to CF composites and unmodified composite which is 30.51 MPa. These results were also confirmed by the SEM machine observations of fracture surface of composites and FTIR analysis of the chemical structure. The result of damping analysis showed modified composites with MAPP in 30wt% CF or KF composites lead to good vibration damping which are increased up to 1017.7% and 756.9% compared to neat PP. On the other hand, the 30wt% m- PP/CF and 30wt% m-PP/KF showed the highest delay in first dripping time compared to neat PP which are increased up to 800% and 1000%. As the results, the presence of MAPP helps increasing on the mechanical properties, vibration damping properties and flammability properties of both fibers. The 30wt% kenaf fiber with 3wt% MAPP gives the best result compare to others

    PERSONAL ELECTRIC VEHICLE PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT

    Get PDF
The Personal Electric Vehicle (PEV) is not a new thing or new discovery. The truth is this vehicle is already invented since late 1990s. By using electricity as the main source, PEV can transport one person over trip distance up until 10km. The concept in designing a PEV basically is taken from scooters and cycles. Also, the system architecture of PEV is taken from common electrical vehicle. However, the drive mechanism and the performance of a PEV is still one of the major issues where it is still consider as newbie and it limits the development of this technology. Basically, this project is a continuous work from previous research. The aim of this project is to develop a prototype with facility to test PEV drive mechanism and evaluate their performance based on specification given. In order to complete the objective, the detail design for each part involve in building a PEV is developed so that each part can be analyze. It is also important to consider the material selection used since the PEV prototype will involve series of performance evaluation. At the end of this project, a PEV prototype is developed with facility to test its performance and its drive mechanism

Improved design of three phase hybrid excitation flux switching motor (HEFSM) with segmental rotor

    Get PDF
This paper presents the new design of Hybrid Excitation Flux Switching Motor (HEFSM) using segmental rotor structure. HEFSMs are those that consists all the excitation flux sources at their stator with robust rotor structure. The rotor is designed as segmental due to the reason that segmental rotor has ability to yield the magnetic path for conveying the field flux to nearby stator armature coil with respect to the rotation of the rotor. This design gives the clear advantage of shorter end winding compared to the toothed rotor as there is no overlap winding between field excitation coil (FEC) and armature coil. In this paper the initial design of HEFSM with segmental rotor has been improved by changing segment span, FEC slot area and armature slot area until maximum torque and power of 33.633 Nm and 8.17 KW respectively have been achieved. Moreover coil test analysis, induced voltage, cogging torque, magnetic flux characteristics, torque vs. field current density and torque vs. power speed characteristics are examined on the basis of 2-D finite element analysis (FEA

The purpose of this executive summary is to give a complete view ofmy developed project, which is the Web-based Practical Exam Monitoring System (WPEMS). I developed the project for the purpose to complete my Final Year Project 1 and Final Year project 2 requisite. Thus, WPEMS is created throughout the time period. Throughout the entire period oftime, I have been exposed to a lot ofnew things ranging from various technological knowledge's, especially in manage and exploit some ofthe Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) functions available in Microsoft XP or Microsoft Windows 2003. I undergo my Final Year Project 1 and 2 under the supervision of Mr. Hilmi Hasan, an ICT lecturer in Universiti Teknologi Petronas. Being a student under his supervision requires me to constantly work perfectly in order to ensure the success ofmy developed project, which is the WPEMS application. WPEMS is a totally new system, where no one else in UTP has created it before, and thus it is unique in its own way. Generally, it is a web-based monitoring application for practical examination in the lab. Practical examination here is such programming examinations or tests, where students need to hard coded their own program in the lab, and thus the needs to constantly ensure the integrity ofthe examination is crucial. This is due to the availability ofthe Internet which can be used by students to cheat in the examination, because they can simply search for the examination answer or tips at the Internet during their practical examination time. WPEMS can solve that problem, by automatically monitormg^he running examination, and any cheating attempt by students will be automatically logged, ^hs can reduce number ofpersonnel usage, and also minimize the efforts ofthe lecturets to constantly walking all around the lab to make sure nobody is cheating

    Get PDF
The manufacture of airfoil sections for experimental purposes for a specific profile is very expensive and time consuming. Due to the complexity of its contour and the need to have a good surface finish of the final model, airfoil model for wing tunnel test need to be manufactured precisely. This project is on manufacturing of NACA 4412 airfoil wing section for wind tunnel test. By using Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) procedure, a series of coordinates according to the NACA 4412 profile will need to be input to the machine. This method is fast and also accurate thus, allowing the time and manufacturing cost to be substantially reduced, at the same time improving the accuracy and quality of the model. The fabricated model was installed in the test section of low speed wind tunnel and connected to the 3 weight balance instruments. Series of test have been conducted and the characteristics of the airfoil based on the drag, lift and pitching moment coefficients are presented

Kazakhstan English-Major Students: Motivation to Learn English and Academic Achievement

    Get PDF
The marked increase in the amount of research on foreign language learning motivation in the last 30 years is due to the widespread recognition of the vital importance of motivation to language learning achievement (Chambers 1999; Dörnyei 2001; Ushioda 2006). The complexity of motivation as such adds to the variety and range of research most of which is heavily influenced by the socio-educational model of second language acquisition formulated by Gardner (1985). His distinction between integrative orientation (when a learner wishes to communicate with people from the target culture) and instrumental orientation (when a learner wishes to learn the language because of external goals such as getting a certain grade in the subject or gaining career opportunities) is still the basis of many scales and subscales produced by other researchers. One very important practical implication of Gardnerian integrative-instrumental dichotomy is that it helps to differentiate the stability of a learner’s goals. Instrumental motivation is very unstable as it is influenced by many external variables such as economy, technology, etc. (Long 2001, p.7) while the strength of integrative motivation which is the most elaborate and researched aspect of Gardner’s motivation theory (Dörnyei 2001, p. 49) is the stability of its goals

INSTITUTIONS AS THE MAIN DETERMINANT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: WITH A FOCUS ON ECONOMIC FREEDOM INDEX AS PROXIES

This paper hopes to serve as a primer, firstly for this Author, regarding the concept of Institutional Economics; a foundation and an enabling environment, which allows economics to function and to be free. Firstly, we focus on the topic of institutions within the scope of economic development, and ask the simple question, “Why some countries are poor, and why some countries are rich?” In terms of set up, this paper is guided by Dani Rodrik & Arvind Subramanian’s 2003 article, “The Primacy of Institutions (and what this does and does not mean).” I looked at how institutions, market openness and geography effect economic development. Both an OLS and pooled OLS model are employed, with the results showing that, institutions account for the largest variation in income. The data is sourced from the Heritage Foundation, 2019 Index of Economic Freedom. Secondly, a discussion of Brunei Darussalam, my home country is presented, trying to link ideas of institutional economics, economic freedom, entrepreneurship and economic development
