The Pioneer anomaly: the measure of a topological phase defect of light in cosmology
It is shown that a wave vector representing a light pulse in an adiabatically
evolving expanding space should develop, after a round trip (back and forth to
the emitter) a geometric phase for helicity states at a given fixed position
coordinate of this expanding space. In a section of the Hopf fibration of the
Poincare sphere that identifies a projection to the physically allowed states,
the evolution defines a parallel transported state that can be joined
continuously with the initial state by means of the associated
Berry-Pancharatnam connection. The connection allows to compute an anomaly in
the frequency for the vector modes in terms of the scale factor of the
space-time background being identical to the reported Pioneer Anomaly.Comment: 10 pages, some minor notation changes have been made. Some additional

NUP-1 Is a Large Coiled-Coil Nucleoskeletal Protein in Trypanosomes with Lamin-Like Functions
NUP1, the first example of a nuclear lamin analog in nonmetazoans, performs roles similar to those of lamins in maintaining the structure and organization of the nucleus in Trypanosoma brucei
Thermodynamics of Relativistic Fermions with Chern-Simons Coupling
We study the thermodynamics of the relativistic Quantum Field Theory of
massive fermions in three space-time dimensions coupled to an Abelian
Maxwell-Chern-Simons gauge field. We evaluate the specific heat at finite
temperature and density and find that the variation with the statistical angle
is consistent with the non-relativistic ideas on generalized statistics.Comment: 12 pages, REVTe
Thermodynamics of an Anyon System
We examine the thermal behavior of a relativistic anyon system, dynamically
realized by coupling a charged massive spin-1 field to a Chern-Simons gauge
field. We calculate the free energy (to the next leading order), from which all
thermodynamic quantities can be determined. As examples, the dependence of
particle density on the anyon statistics and the anyon anti-anyon interference
in the ideal gas are exhibited. We also calculate two and three-point
correlation functions, and uncover certain physical features of the system in
thermal equilibrium.Comment: 18 pages; in latex; to be published in Phys. Rev.
Compositional data analysis of Holocene sediments from the West Bengal Sundarbans, India: Geochemical proxies for grain-size variability in a delta environment
© 2016 Elsevier Ltd This paper is part of a special issue of Applied Geochemistry focusing on reliable applications of compositional multivariate statistical methods. This study outlines the application of compositional data analysis (CoDa) to calibration of geochemical data and multivariate statistical modelling of geochemistry and grain-size data from a set of Holocene sedimentary cores from the Ganges- Brahmaputra (G-B) delta. Over the last two decades, understanding near-continuous records of sedimentary sequences has required the use of core-scanning X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry, for both terrestrial and marine sedimentary sequences. Initial XRF data are generally unusable in ‘raw-format’, requiring data processing in order to remove instrument bias, as well as informed sequence interpretation. The applicability of these conventional calibration equations to core-scanning XRF data are further limited by the constraints posed by unknown measurement geometry and specimen homogeneity, as well as matrix effects. Log-ratio based calibration schemes have been developed and applied to clastic sedimentary sequences focusing mainly on energy dispersive-XRF (ED-XRF) core-scanning. This study has applied high resolution core-scanning XRF to Holocene sedimentary sequences from the tidal-dominated Indian Sundarbans, (Ganges-Brahmaputra delta plain). The Log-Ratio Calibration Equation (LRCE) was applied to a sub-set of core-scan and conventional ED-XRF data to quantify elemental composition. This provides a robust calibration scheme using reduced major axis regression of log-ratio transformed geochemical data. Through partial least squares (PLS) modelling of geochemical and grain-size data, it is possible to derive robust proxy information for the Sundarbans depositional environment. The application of these techniques to Holocene sedimentary data offers an improved methodological framework for unravelling Holocene sedimentation patterns
Log-Ratio and Parallel Factor Analysis: An Approach to Analyze Three-Way Compositional Data
For the exploratory analysis of three-way data, Parafac/Candecomp model (CP) is one of the most\ud
applied models to study three-way arrays when the data are approximately trilinear. It is a three-way\ud
generalization of PCA (Principal Component Analysis). CP model is a common name for low-rank\ud
decomposition of three-way arrays. In this approach, the three-dimensional data are decomposed into a\ud
series of factors, each relating to one of the three physical ways. When the data are particular ratios, as in\ud
the case of compositional data, this model should consider the special problems that compositional data\ud
pose. The principal aim of this paper is to describe how an analysis of compositional data by CP is possible\ud
and how the results should be interpreted
MODAL BISTABILITY IN A GaAlAs LEAKY WAVEGUIDE
We report the observation of power dependent mode changes leading to a nonlinear transmission response and optical bistability in a GaAlAs leaky slab waveguide. The dominant mechanism appears to be an optothermal nonlinearity
