Microwave Experiments on Graphs Simulating Spin-1/2 System
In this work I study the statistical properties of the Gaussian symplectic ensemble
(GSE) by means of microwave experiments on quantum graphs mimicking spin-1/2
systems. Additionally, the transport property of three terminal microwave graphs
with orthogonal, unitary and symplectic symmetry is investigated.
In the first part of this thesis, following the spirit of the idea proposed by Joyner
et al. we construct microwave quantum graphs to realize a antiunitary symmetry T
that squares to minus one, T^2 = -1. This symmetry induces degenerate eigenvalues,
which are called Kramers doublets. If the classical dynamics of the system is
chaotic, statistical features of the spectrum can be well described by the corresponding
statistics of random matrix Gaussian symplectic ensemble. Indeed, Kramers
doublets are observed in reflection spectrum as expected from the scattering properties
of a symplectic graph. The level spacing distribution of these doublets is compared
with the corresponding random matrix predictions. Since the level spacing
distribution accounts for the short range eigenvalue correlation, to study the spectral
long range correlation the spectral two point correlation function and its Fourier
transform, the spectral form factor are analyzed. In order to further examine the
fluctuation of the eigenvalues smoothed quantities such as number variance and
spectral rigidity are discussed. The graphs used in the experiment consist of two
subgraphs coupled via one pair of connecting bonds. Theoretical study shows that
the level spacing distribution for graphs with one pair of connecting bonds deviates
by few percents from the random matrix prediction. This difference is too small to
be resolved in the experiment. The one pair of bonds approximation is introduced
to better understand the symplectic graph we used in the experiment. This model is
extended to address more general cases of the symplectic graph. Finally, the parameter
dependent dynamical transition of the statistical features of the spectrum from
GSE via Gaussian unitary ensemble (GUE) to Gaussian orthogonal ensemble (GOE)
is studied.
In the second part of this thesis, the collaborative work with Dr. A. M. Martínez-
Argüello from Mexico is briefly presented. A three terminal setup is proposed to
study the universal transport properties of systems with orthogonal, unitary and
symplectic symmetry. The probability distribution for a transport related quantity is
predicted analytically and microwave graphs are constructed to test this prediction.
The absorption within the system is modeled by effective Hamiltonian approach.
The parameters of the absorption and coupling are extracted from the experimental
autocorrelation function. This allowed a comparison between experiment and theory
without any free parameters. Finally, a quantitative good agreement between
experiment and theory was found for all three symmetry classes

Kaempulchraols A−H, diterpenoids from the rhizomes of Kaempferia pulchra collected in Myanmar
Eight new diterpenoids, kaempulchraols A−H (1−8), along with five known analogues were isolated from the CHCl3 soluble extract of rhizomes of Kaempferia pulchra of Myanmar. The structures of these compounds were elucidated using extensive spectroscopic techniques including X-ray diffraction analysis. All the isolates were tested for their antiproliferative activity against a panel of five human cancer cell lines (A549, human lung cancer; HeLa, human cervix cancer; PANC-1 and PSN-1, human pancreatic cancer, MDA-MB-231, human breast cancer) and TIG-3, normal human primary fibroblast cells. Kaempulchraol F (6) exhibited weak activity against human pancreatic PSN-1 cell line with an IC50 value of 12.3 μM
Research on Establishment of Abnormal Phlegmatic Syndrome with Premature Ovarian Failure Rat Model and Effects of Balgham Munziq Treatment
This study aimed to establish and explore the biological basis of abnormal phlegmatic syndrome with premature ovarian failure (POF) model in rats based on the Uighur medicine (UM) in the first place and investigate the effects of unique herbal medicine, Balgham Munziq (BMq). Mature female Wistar rats were fed with spinach and coriander in cold and humid condition for approximately 20 weeks until abnormal phlegmatic syndrome (APS) model was established. When APS model was confirmed by Uighur medical experts, APS with POF disease rats were subdivided into APS with POF disease model group and APS with POF disease treated with BMq group; the rest of them were subdivided into APS model group and APS treated with BMq group. The results show that biological characteristics of animals in the course of modeling period were in accordance with clinical features of abnormal phlegmatic syndrome (APS) in Uighur medicine. Herbal medicine BMq not only reverted reproductive hormone levels disorders but also improved the function of hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis and regulated secretion of monoamine neurotransmitters. APS is most likely to cause pathological changes of hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis and lead to the occurrence of POF and BMq is effective in the treatment of APS with POF disease
Meta-analysis of the association between dietary inflammatory index and cognitive health
BackgroundSome studies have shown that a pro-inflammatory diet may be associated with cognitive function, but their conclusions have varied considerably. We here present a meta-analysis of the current published literature on DII score and its association with cognitive health.MethodsIn this meta-analysis, the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases were searched in September 2022. The reported indexes, specifically OR, RR, and β, were extracted and analyzed using R version 3.1.0.ResultsA total of 636 studies in databases were identified, and 12 were included in the meta-analysis. Higher DII was associated with an increased risk of AD and MCI (OR = 1.34; 95% CI = 1.21–1.49). Meanwhile, it may also cause global function impairment (categorical: OR = 1.63; 95% CI = 1.36–1.96) and verbal fluency impairment (continuous: OR = 0.18; 95% IC = 0.08–0.42). But there was no significant association between DII and executive function (categorical: OR = 1.12; 95% IC = 0.84–1.49; continuous: OR = 0.48; 95% IC = 0.19–1.21) or episodic memory (continuous: OR = 0.56; 95% IC = 0.30–1.03).ConclusionA pro-inflammatory diet is related to AD, MCI, and the functions of some cognitive domains (specifically global function and verbal fluency). However, the current evidence on the role of diet-induced inflammation in different cognitive domains should be supported by further studies in the future
Kaempulchraols IO: new isopimarane diterpenoids from Kaempferia pulchra rhizomes collected in Myanmar and their antiproliferative activity
The isolation of the CHCl3 soluble extract of Kaempferia pulchra rhizomes afforded seven new isopimarane diterpenoids, kaempulchraols I−O, together with one known analogue. The structures of these compounds were elucidated using 1D and 2D NMR and X-ray diffraction analyses. The antiproliferative activity of the isolated compounds was evaluated against a panel of five human cancer cell lines. Kaempulchraol L exhibited weak antiproliferative activity against PANC-1 and PSN-1 cells with IC50 values of 39.9 and 22.6 μM, respectively
A Computational study of sparse or structured matrix operations
Matrix computation is an important area in high-performance scientific computing. Major computer manufacturers and vendors typically provide architecture- aware implementation libraries such as Basic Linear Algebra Subroutines (BLAS). In this thesis, we perform an experimental study of a subset of matrix operations, where the matrices are dense, sparse, or structured in Java. We implement a subset of BLAS operations in Java and compare their performance with standard data structures Compressed Row Storage (CRS) and Java Sparse Array (JSA) for dense and sparse structured matrices. The diagonal storage format is shown to be a viable alternative for dense and structured matrices

The isolation of the oily fraction obtained from the CHCl3-soluble extract of the rhizomes of Kaempferia pulchra (Zingiberaceae) afforded five new isopimarane diterpenoids, kaempulchraols P−T (1−5), along with two known analogues. The structures were elucidated using spectroscopic techniques, including 2D NMR spectroscopy
Clinicopathological characteristics of gastric cancer patients with dermatomyositis and analysis of perioperative management: a case series study
BackgroundThis study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics of gastric cancer (GC) patients with dermatomyositis (DM) and summarize the perioperative outcomes.MethodsThe clinical and pathological data of five patients diagnosed with co-occurring DM and GC (DM-GC group) were retrospectively analyzed, who were admitted to the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Ren ji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, between January 2012 and April 2023. Their data were compared with 618 GC patients (GC-1 group) from September 2016 to August 2017 and 35 GC patients who were meticulously screened from 14,580 GC cases from January 2012 and April 2023. The matching criteria included identical gender, age, tumor location, TNM stage, and surgical procedure (7 GC patients were matched for each DM-GC patient).ResultsAnalysis indicated that the DM-GC group comprised four female and one male patient. The female proportion was significantly higher (P = 0.032) than that of GC-1 group. In DM-GC group, four DM patients were diagnosed as GC within 12 months. One DM patients was diagnosed as GC within 15 months. Among them, four patients presented with varying degrees of skin rashes, muscle weakness while one patient had elevated CK levels as the typical symptom. Similarly, the preoperative tumor markers (CA-199 and CA-125) in the DM-GC group were significantly higher than normal levels (CA-199: 100 vs. 28.6%, P = 0.002; CA-125: 40 vs. 2.9%, P = 0.003) compared to GC-2 group. Moreover, postoperative complication incidence and the length of hospital stay were significantly higher in the DM-GC than GC-2 group [complication rate: 40 vs. 8.6%, P = 0.047; hospital stay: 15 days (range: 9–28) vs. 9 days (range: 8–10), P = 0.021].ConclusionGC Patients with dermatomyositis are more prone to experience postoperative complications and longer hospital stay
Monitoring deformations of Istanbul metro line stations through Sentinel-1 and levelling observations
Turkey, as a developing country, is designing and performing massive construction projects around Istanbul. Beginning from the 1960s, rapid urbanization has been taking place due to industrialization, which brings an increase in the population. Yet, construction projects have been accelerated especially during the last decade, and many new projects are scheduled to be completed in a short time. Ground-based observations are generally carried out to monitor the deformations within construction sites, especially through geometric levelling, and GNSS techniques. However, in most cases, these monitoring measurements are only scheduled within the period of the construction process, and ensuing deformations are usually not considered. In addition to these techniques, the space-based interferometric technique can also be used to define the line of sight surface displacements with high accuracy, using the phase difference between image result for synthetic aperture radar images. In particular, Persistent Scatter Interferometry is one of the interferometric methods that are capable of defining the two-dimensional (vertical and horizontal) deformation for the desired epoch with a high temporal resolution. Thus it can be used as a complementary method for monitoring ground deformations, where the measurement is made by ground-based observations. In this study, the deforming areas related to underground metro construction are investigated through significant displacements between 2015 and 2018 of Sentinel-1 space-borne SAR data using the PSI technique. These results are validated by comparison with available levelling data corresponding to the new metro line
