Islamist and Secularist Women in Egyptian Politics: Convergence or Divergence?
Islam oppresses women and has many restrictions on womenâs participation in politics. Women have fewer rights under the Islamic Shariâa (law). Is this true or not? Does Islam really exclude women from political participation? Are Islamists, who have their political agenda, supporting or oppressing women? Are Islamist feminists, who are a contemporary phenomenon especially in the Middle East, politically active or inactive? Are liberal or secular women in Egypt more democratic than Islamist women or the opposite? Such questions will be addressed in the following research with emphasis on examining the role of women in Egyptian politics during Ikwhanâs - Muslims Brotherhood (MB) - regime. Consequently, a comparison will be conducted between Islamist and secularist womenâs role during that period to explore which group was more likely to adhere to democracy during that short period of rule. In this study, I argue that Islamist women, based on their beliefs that democracy is compatible with Islamic political laws, were more likely to accept democracy and deny any forms of aristocracy. Their political participation in what was considered as a âtransition periodâ after January 25 Revolution until the military coup has proved their fulfillment of democracy

Wireless Sensor System for Mild Cognitive Impairment Diagnosis
Alzheimerâs disease (AD), which causes decline in the cognitive functions, is the
major lead of dementia. AD begins showing damage in memory, making patients
dependent on caregivers. Treating AD requires early diagnosis of its signs. The
initial sign of AD is mild cognitive impairment (MCI), which is the middle stage
between a healthy patient and one diagnosed with AD. The proposed sleep
monitoring system is capable of diagnosing MCI symptoms.
MCI patients are characterized with sleep fragmentation and sleep disorder. The
sleep fragmentation is defined as awakenings that interrupt the normal sleep. The
proposed system in this thesis uses force sensors to capture movements that can
potentially characterize as sleep fragmentation. The sensors were arranged on a
mattress cover to pick up the body movements regardless of sleep position.
A wireless sensor system was designed, implemented and tested in Wireless
Sensor Networks (WiSe-Net) laboratory at the University of Maine. The system
operates at 2.4GHz with a range of 300ft. It has been tested on control subjects,
healthy people, and seniors diagnosed with MCI and AD. The system is capable of
determining the number and average periods of sleep fragmentation to assist with
diagnosing MCI
Adjudicating Patriarchy in the Nationality Law
The Egyptian legal structure has long discriminated against women. Taking nationality law as an example, it is obvious that all consecutive nationality laws have ignored womenâs right concerning passing on and acquiring nationality. Even after its amendment in 2004, major gender discrimination still exists. This is caused by the fact that the nationality law is only a part of the legal system. Consequently, its essence will not deviate from the patriarchal composition of the overall nature of the legal system. This paper argues that the existing forms of discrimination in the nationality law correlate with the broader legal environment. Hence, using law as a tool for social reform in the nationality law only masks the deeper problem. This is what happened when the legislators intervened in 2004 to achieve gender equality in the nationality law. Even the use of strategic litigation has failed on its own to alter the gender discrimination existing in the nationality law. Though in some cases the court has been successful in bringing back some rights for women, patriarchy cannot be altered through judgments

Collection of Departmental Information by Utilizing Computer Technology: Evidence from Schools of Karachi
This paper is an analysis of Collection of Departmental Information (CDI) of Education Department of Karachi, but the concept of the paper is general in nature and applicable to every department of any country for the purpose of computerization of all the related records and CDI. The Paper examines the existing manually run infrastructure of CDI for onward submission to concerned departmental authorities. With the advent of information technology, the transformation and collection of information is analyzed for comparison between traditional source code and computer based working system. Trend of introducing computer in Government Departments has been examined and recorded with positive results. The Governor of Sindh seems to be very serious and has much emphasized the need of using computer technology for easy access, efficient, diligent and versatile functioning of the departments. Role of Pakistani Universities in Interfaith Dialogue, Harmony and Relations An Index and Bibliometric of Produced Academic Dissertations
Interfaith dialogue has become one of the most significant and interesting activities in contemporary socio-political and socio-religious global scenario due to its crucial role in the peace process and peaceful interfaith relations. Many groups of scholars, institutes, organizations, and even governments are promoting the activities regarding interfaith relations. Meanwhile, it is also assumed that Pakistan is one of the countries where interfaith dialogue activities are arranged officially on the state level. In this study, efforts are made to review statistically and to index the literature produced by Pakistani scholars and universities. A mixed-method research methodology is adopted for this study with a bibliometric approach to find out results. Almost 136 theses & dissertations have been produced by scholars in a wide range of Pakistani Universities on interfaith Dialogue, religious debates, harmony, and relations. The research produced by male scholars was 71 (52.21 %) and most 49 (36%) productive era was from 2011 to 2015. The majority of the research was for Master (38%) and MS/M.Phil (34%) level degrees and about one-fifth of the theses were on the theme of âInterfaith Dialogue in Pakistani contextâ. Therefore, it is suggested that the course on interfaith dialogue, harmony, and relations should be taught at M. Phil and Ph.D. Level in the discipline of Islamic studies and social sciences
Bidirectional Electric Vehicles Service Integration in Smart Power Grid with Renewable Energy Resources
As electric vehicles (EVs) become more popular, the utility companies are forced to increase power generations in the grid. However, these EVs are capable of providing power to the grid to deliver different grid ancillary services in a concept known as vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and grid-to-vehicle (G2V), in which the EV can serve as a load or source at the same time. These services can provide more benefits when they are integrated with Photovoltaic (PV) generation. The proper modeling, design and control for the power conversion systems that provide the optimum integration among the EVs, PV generations and grid are investigated in this thesis.
The coupling between the PV generation and integration bus is accomplished through a unidirectional converter. Precise dynamic and small-signal models for the grid-connected PV power system are developed and utilized to predict the systemâs performance during the different operating conditions. An advanced intelligent maximum power point tracker based on fuzzy logic control is developed and designed using a mix between the analytical model and genetic algorithm optimization.
The EV is connected to the integration bus through a bidirectional inductive wireless power transfer system (BIWPTS), which allows the EV to be charged and discharged wirelessly during the long-term parking, transient stops and movement. Accurate analytical and physics-based models for the BIWPTS are developed and utilized to forecast its performance, and novel practical limitations for the active and reactive power-flow during G2V and V2G operations are stated. A comparative and assessment analysis for the different compensation topologies in the symmetrical BIWPTS was performed based on analytical, simulation and experimental data. Also, a magnetic design optimization for the double-D power pad based on finite-element analysis is achieved. The nonlinearities in the BIWPTS due to the magnetic material and the high-frequency components are investigated rely on a physics-based co-simulation platform. Also, a novel two-layer predictive power-flow controller that manages the bidirectional power-flow between the EV and grid is developed, implemented and tested. In addition, the feasibility of deploying the quasi-dynamic wireless power transfer technology on the road to charge the EV during the transient stops at the traffic signals is proven
