    The relation among achievement goals and academic achievement in statistics: the mediating role of statistics anxiety and statistics self-efficacy

    AbstractIn order to predict student's academic achievement in statistics in terms of achievement goals, statistics anxiety and statistics selfefficacy, 323 participants from Fars Peyame Noor Universities were selected via multi- stage cluster sampling and then were asked to fill in a set of questionnaires, consisted of achievement goals, statistics anxiety and statistics self-efficacy scales. Results of path analysis generally showed that achievement goals indirectly and through statistics anxiety and statistics self-efficacy affect students’ achievement in statistics. Moreover, results showed that unlike avoidance-performance goals, the indirect effect of mastery goals on statistical achievement is positive

    Nutritional Recommendations in Asthmatic Patients

    Asthma is a heterogeneous disease, and airway inflammation has an important role in its pathogenesis. Some nutritional factors can influence the process of asthma. It is reported that saffron has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and muscle relaxant effects, and some animal and human studies showed that saffron and its active components (safranal and crocin) improved the asthma biomarkers and clinical symptoms. Some other nutritional factors also affect asthma; for example, magnesium can relax the muscles and thus has bronchodilatory effects. Curcumin is the major active component of turmeric which has a potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-allergic effects. Because some researchers suggested that intestinal microbial flora has an important role in allergy, probiotics can be a complementary supplement for asthmatic patients. Generally nutritional factors could be advised for asthmatic patients with the goal of reducing the needs for chemical drugs

    The Effect of Muscle Paralysis on the Development of the Skeleton of the Chick Embryo

    In order to study the effects of paralysis on the development of the skeletal system in the chick embryo, embryos were paralysed by periodical administration of decamethonium bromide at 6, 8 and 10 days of incubation and were compared with controls to which saline was administered. 1. Experimental embryos showed retardation of the developmental stages of Hamburger & Hamilton (1951) and were of smaller size and weight. 2. Whole mount clearing showed that experimental embryos had scoliosis, cartilaginous or even bony fusion of cervical vertebrae, the knee joint and some other joints, distortion of the pubis and scapula, and failure of chondrification of the patella and the plantar tarsal sesamoid bone. 3. Linear measurement showed reduction in length of long bones, e.g. femur, tibia, humerus, ulnar and radius and lower and upper beaks in experimental embryos. The upper beak showed a greater reduction than the lower. 4. Volumetric measurement of the tibia showed a reduction in all tissues in experimental embryos and a marked reduction in cartilage formation and resorption between the 13th and 14th days of incubation. 5. Timings of onset of invasion by the osteogenic bud, of ossification assessed histologically and of calcification assessed by alizarin staining were similar between control and experimental embryos. 6. Histological and scanning electron microscopical study of the tibia revealed no changes between the two groups until the 11th day of incubation. From 12 days onwards:- i) less periosteal bone formation occurred in the experimental embryos, ii) cartilage resorption was not progressing in the experimental embryos at the extent of their corresponding controls iii) blood vessels in the Haversian canals were larger in diameter in the experimental embryos, iv) the tibiofibular interosseous ligament and fibular crest of the tibia regressed in experimental embryos. 7. Muscle fibres were atrophied and lost their orderly arrangement in the experimental embryos

    Pancreatic beta cell protection/regeneration with phytotherapy

    Although currently available drugs are useful in controlling early onset complications of diabetes, serious late onset complications appear in a large number of patients. Considering the physiopathology of diabetes, preventing beta cell degeneration and stimulating the endogenous regeneration of islets will be essential approaches for the treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. The current review focused on phytochemicals, the antidiabetic effect of which has been proved by pancreatic beta cell protection/regeneration. Among the hundreds of plants that have been investigated for diabetes, a small fraction has shown the regenerative property and was described in this paper. Processes of pancreatic beta cell degeneration and regeneration were described. Also, the proposed mechanisms for the protective/regenerative effects of such phytochemicals and their potential side effects were discussed.Embora medicamentos disponíveis atualmente sejam úteis no controle de complicações da Diabetes, complicações aparecem em grande número de pacientes. Considerando-se a fisiopatologia do Diabetes, a prevenção da degeneração de células beta e o estímulo da regeneração endógena de ilhotas será abordagem essencial para o tratamento de diabetes mellitus insulino-dependente. A presente revisão aborda compostos fitoquímicos, cujo efeito é provado na proteção/regeneração de células beta de pâncreas. Entre centenas de plantas que têm sido investigadas para o diabetes, pequena fração tem mostrado propriedade regenerativa, que será descrita neste trabalho. Os processos de degeneração e de regeneração das células beta do pâncrease são descritos. Além disso, mecanismos propostos para efeitos de proteção e regeneração desses compostos fitoquímicos e seus possíveis efeitos colaterais também serão discutidos neste trabalho

    The Effect of Intellectual Capital on Knowledge Management with the Mediating Role of Organizational Commitment

    Abstract: For many years, at the competitive examination, Yazd province students have the highest acceptance rate to enter university. The attention to knowledge management and its impact in the creation of an intangible capital type (but vital) called intellectual investment among employees and institutional managers responsible to educate are an indispensable necessity in the education department of Yazd province. In this regard, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of intellectual capital on knowledge management with the interceding role of organizational commitment in the General Office of Education in Yazd province, Iran. The results showed that intellectual capital affects knowledge management and intellectual capital is imperative for organizational commitment. Organizational commitment influences knowledge management. Organizational commitment has a significant positive mediation effect in the influencing of intellectual capital on knowledge management.Key Words: intellectual capital, knowledge management, organizational commitment, knowledge creation, knowledge sharingAbstrak: Bertahun-tahun, pada ujian kompetitif, siswa provinsi Yazd memiliki tingkat penerimaan tertinggi untuk masuk ke universitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa modal intelektual mempengaruhi manajemen pengetahuan dan modal intelektual sangat penting untuk komitmen organisasi.     Cannabis Terpenes Synergistically Modulate Hippocampal Excitability

    This work demonstrates how commonly ingested aromatic compounds (terpenes, flavonoids, and odorants) can induce physiological changes on the molecular level in brain regions implicated in high order information processing. Indeed, the component discussed in this study (BCP) is found in relatively high concentrations in common household spices such as cloves and black pepper. Also, limonene is commonly found in the rinds of citrus fruits (e.g. lemon and oranges). These physiological actions could be responsible for individual preferences of different types of foods and aromas that act synergistically with our bodies and modify behavior. Lastly, the need for effective treatments for severe pharmacoresistant forms of pediatric epilepsies such as Dravet syndrome is of imminent importance. Due to current drug laws, it is legally and financially impractical for many people to obtain high quality and high concentration C. sativa extracts. This could lead to ingestion of inferior products with chemical contamination or highly variable concentrations of chemical components. This issue may be completely circumvented by using natural non-cannabis derived cannabinoid agonists. It is based on two applications of linear barycentric rational interpolation, barycentric rational quadrature and barycentric rational finite differences. Its zero–stability and convergence are studied. Numerical tests demonstrate the excellent agreement of our implementation with the predicted convergence orders
