Bispectral KP Solutions and Linearization of Calogero-Moser Particle Systems
A new construction using finite dimensional dual grassmannians is developed
to study rational and soliton solutions of the KP hierarchy. In the rational
case, properties of the tau function which are equivalent to bispectrality of
the associated wave function are identified. In particular, it is shown that
there exists a bound on the degree of all time variables in tau if and only if
the wave function is rank one and bispectral. The action of the bispectral
involution, beta, in the generic rational case is determined explicitly in
terms of dual grassmannian parameters. Using the correspondence between
rational solutions and particle systems, it is demonstrated that beta is a
linearizing map of the Calogero-Moser particle system and is essentially the
map sigma introduced by Airault, McKean and Moser in 1977.Comment: LaTeX, 24 page
Nuclear parton distributions at next to leading order
We perform a next to leading order QCD global analysis of nuclear deep
inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan data using the convolution approach to
parameterize nuclear parton densities. We find both a significant improvement
in the agreement with data compared to previous extractions, and substantial
differences in the scale dependence of nuclear effects compared to leading
order analyses.Comment: 9 pages, 10 figure
The effect of spontaneous collapses on neutrino oscillations
We compute the effect of collapse models on neutrino oscillations. The effect
of the collapse is to modify the evolution of the `spatial' part of the wave
function, which indirectly amounts to a change on the flavor components. In
many respects, this phenomenon is similar to neutrino propagation through
matter. For the analysis we use the mass proportional CSL model, and perform
the calculation to second order perturbation theory. As we will show, the CSL
prediction is very small - mainly due to the very small mass of neutrinos - and
practically undetectable.Comment: 24 pages, RevTeX. Updated versio
High-precision determination of the critical exponents for the lambda-transition of 4He by improved high-temperature expansion
We determine the critical exponents for the XY universality class in three
dimensions, which is expected to describe the -transition in He.
They are obtained from the analysis of high-temperature series computed for a
two-component model. The parameter is fixed such that
the leading corrections to scaling vanish. We obtain ,
, . These estimates improve previous
theoretical determinations and agree with the more precise experimental results
for liquid Helium.Comment: 8 pages, revte
Nuclear Modification Factor for Charged Pions and Protons at Forward Rapidity in Central Au+Au Collisions at 200 GeV
We present spectra of charged pions and protons in 0-10% central Au+Au
collisions at GeV at mid-rapidity () and forward
pseudorapidity () measured with the BRAHMS experiment at RHIC. The
spectra are compared to spectra from p+p collisions at the same energy scaled
by the number of binary collisions. The resulting nuclear modification factors
for central Au+Au collisions at both and exhibit suppression
for charged pions but not for (anti-)protons at intermediate . The
ratios have been measured up to GeV/ at the two
rapidities and the results indicate that a significant fraction of the charged
hadrons produced at intermediate range are (anti-)protons at both
mid-rapidity and
The New Physics at RHIC. From Transparency to High p Suppression
Heavy ion collisions at RHIC energies (Au+Au collisions at
GeV) exhibit significant new features as compared to
earlier experiments at lower energies. The reaction is characterized by a high
degree of transparency of the collisions partners leading to the formation of a
baryon-poor central region. In this zone, particle production occurs mainly
from the stretching of the color field. The initial energy density is well
above the one considered necessary for the formation of the Quark Gluon Plasma,
QGP. The production of charged particles of various masses is consistent with
chemical and thermal equilibrium. Recently, a suppression of the high
transverse momentum component of hadron spectra has been observed in central
Au+Au collisions. This can be explained by the energy loss experienced by
leading partons in a medium with a high density of unscreened color charges. In
contrast, such high jets are not suppressed in d+Au collisions suggesting
that the high suppression is not due to initial state effects in the
ultrarelativistic colliding nuclei.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures. to appear in Nucl. Physics A. Invited talk at

Equilibrium crystal shapes in the Potts model
The three-dimensional -state Potts model, forced into coexistence by
fixing the density of one state, is studied for , 3, 4, and 6. As a
function of temperature and number of states, we studied the resulting
equilibrium droplet shapes. A theoretical discussion is given of the interface
properties at large values of . We found a roughening transition for each of
the numbers of states we studied, at temperatures that decrease with increasing
, but increase when measured as a fraction of the melting temperature. We
also found equilibrium shapes closely approaching a sphere near the melting
point, even though the three-dimensional Potts model with three or more states
does not have a phase transition with a diverging length scale at the melting
point.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, submitted to PR
A systematic study of J/psi suppression in cold nuclear matter
Based on a Glauber model, a statistical analysis of all mid-rapidity J/psi
hadroproduction and leptoproduction data on nuclear targets is carried out.
This allows us to determine the J/psi-nucleon inelastic cross section, whose
knowledge is crucial to interpret the J/psi suppression observed in heavy-ion
collisions, at SPS and at RHIC. The values of sigma are extracted from each
experiment. A clear tension between the different data sets is reported. The
global fit of all data gives sigma=3.4+/-0.2 mb, which is significantly smaller
than previous estimates. A similar value, sigma=3.5+/-0.2 mb, is obtained when
the nDS nuclear parton densities are included in the analysis, although we
emphasize that the present uncertainties on gluon (anti)shadowing do not allow
for a precise determination of sigma. Finally, no significant energy dependence
of the J/psi-N interaction is observed, unless strong nuclear modifications of
the parton densities are assumed.Comment: 25 pages, 5 figure
Comparing different freeze-out scenarios in azimuthal hadron correlations induced by fast partons
I review the linearized hydrodynamical treatment of a fast parton traversing
a perturbative quark-gluon plasma. Using numerical solutions for the medium's
response to the fast parton, I obtain the medium's distribution function which
is then used in a Cooper-Frye freeze-out prescription to obtain an azimuthal
particle spectrum. Two different freeze-out scenarios are considered which
yield significantly different results. I conclude that any meaningful
comparison of azimuthal hadron correlation functions to RHIC data requires
implementing a realistic freeze-out scenario in an expanding medium.Comment: Contribution to the Proceedings for 2008 Hot Quarks in Estes Park,

Strange particle production at RHIC in a single-freeze-out model
Strange particle ratios and pT-spectra are calculated in a thermal model with
single freeze-out, previously used successfully to describe non-strange
particle production at RHIC. The model and the recently released data for phi,
Lambda, anti-Lambda, and K*(892) are in very satisfactory agreement, showing
that the thermal approach can be used to describe the strangeness production at
RHIC.Comment: We have added the comparison of the model predictions to the newly
released Lambda and K*(892) pT-spectra from STA
