    Application of the mixture design to decolourise effluent textile wastewater using continuous stirred bed reactor

    Important pollutants in textile effluents are mainly recalcitrant organics, colours, toxicants and inhibitory compounds, surfactants, chlorinated compounds (AOX), pH and salts. An aerobic system using a continuous stirred bed reactor (SBR) was continuously operated at constant temperature and fed with textile wastewater (pH 7 and total chemical oxygen demand (COD) 1 700 mg/â„“).This report is focused on the decolourisation treatment of effluent by a bacterial consortium (Sphingomonas paucimobilis, Bacillus sp. and filamentous bacteria). The influence of the different mixtures of 3 strains on the decolourisation of effluent (cell density fixed at OD600 = 1) was studied using an equilateral triangle diagram and mixture experimental design to assess colour and COD removal during species evolution. With the aid of analysis software (Minitab 14.0), the formulation of pure culture was optimised for several responses and the best formulation obtained. The results suggested that the highest predictable specific decolourisation rate and chemical oxygen demand (COD) were 86.72% and 75.06%, respectively. Regression coefficients between the variables and the responses of decolourisation and COD removal were, respectively, R2 = 72.48% and 54.28%, which indicated excellent evaluation of experimental data by the polynomial regression model.     L'objectif de cette étude est de présenter les résultats d'essaisd'élimination du cuivre par des procédés de précipitation chimique à la chaux et d'adsorption sur des argiles bentonitiques. Pour des doses croissantes de chaux, les rendements d'élimination du cuivre sont excellents du fait de la précipitation de l'hydroxyde de cuivre. Les essais d'adsorption ont montré que la bentonite de Maghnia était plus performante que celle de Mostaghanem. La fixation du cuivre sur l'argile est rapide et est améliorée avec l'augmentation des doses de bentonite, du pH et de la teneur initiale en cuivre. Plusieurs mécanismes de rétention du cuivre sur l'argilepourraient être compétitifs (échange d'ions, complexation ou précipitation). The purpose of this study is to present tests results of copper removal by processes of lime chemical precipitation and adsorption on bentonitic clays. For increasing lime amounts, copper removal efficiencies seemexcellent because of the precipitation of copper hydroxide. Adsorption tests showed that the bentonite of Maghnia was more powerful than that of Mostaghanem. Copper fixing on clay is fast and is improved with the increase of the amounts of bentonites, pH and the initial content of copper.     Geographic variation in phytochemical constituents and allelopathic potential of Pinus halepensis barks

    Aqueous extracts (10, 20, 30 and 40 g/L) of Pinus halepensis barks, collected from Bizerte (B), Tabarka (T), Seliana (S) and Oueslatia (O) to elucidate the influence of ecological sites on allelopathic potential. Aqueous barks extracts from (S) and (O) have revealed a higher rate of phenolic acids than those from (T) and (B), respectively 13.23, 13.8, 11.63 and 10.37 mg/mL. Alep pin barks were analyzed using HPLC/UV for the identification and quantification of the phenolic compounds, among which in particular the catechin acetate, the gallic acid, the rutine hydrate, luteolin 7 glucoside and the cinnamic acid. In fact, the aqueous extract of barks from (S) revealed a highest level, respectively 2.61, 1.74, 1.61, 1.36, and 1.21 mg/mL. The Pinus halepensis barks was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. As a result, 29 compounds were identified representing 89% made up basically by β-caryophyllene, α-humulene. As for allelopathic activity, aqueous extracts of barks significantly delayed germination, reduced its rate and affected the seedling growth mainly the (S) and (O) extracts. The root growth of the two targets has shown a high sensibility compared to the shoot lengths. Pot cultures were conducted by the incorporation of barks powder (50 and 100 g/kg) or the irrigation with their aqueous extracts at 20 and 40 g/L. Pinus halepensis barks and its extracts have shown a high herbicide potent, particularly the one collected from (S) and (O), may be favorably used for incorporating in agricultural systems for sustainable weed managemen

    The evolving role of next-generation sequencing in screening and diagnosis of hemoglobinopathies

    During the last few years, next-generation sequencing (NGS) has undergone a rapid transition from a research setting to a clinical application, becoming the method of choice in many clinical genetics laboratories for the detection of disease-causing variants in a variety of genetic diseases involving multiple genes. The hemoglobinopathies are the most frequently found Mendelian inherited monogenic disease worldwide and are composed of a complex group of disorders frequently involving the inheritance of more than one abnormal gene. This review aims to present the role of NGS in both screening and pre- and post-natal diagnostics of the hemoglobinopathies, and the added value of NGS is discussed based on the results described in the literature. Overall, NGS has an added value in large-scale high throughput carrier screening and in the complex cases for which common molecular techniques have some inadequacies. It is proven that the majority of thalassemia cases and Hb variants can be diagnosed using routine analysis involving a combined approach of hematology, hemoglobin separation, and classical DNA methods; however, we conclude that NGS can be a useful addition to the existing methods in the diagnosis of these disorders.Genetics of disease, diagnosis and treatmen

    A Signal Peptide Derived from hsp60 Binds HLA-E and Interferes with CD94/NKG2A Recognition

    Human histocompatibility leukocyte antigen (HLA)-E is a nonclassical major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecule which presents a restricted set of nonameric peptides, derived mainly from the signal sequence of other MHC class I molecules. It interacts with CD94/NKG2 receptors expressed on the surface of natural killer (NK) cells and T cell subsets. Here we demonstrate that HLA-E also presents a peptide derived from the leader sequence of human heat shock protein 60 (hsp60). This peptide gains access to HLA-E intracellularly, resulting in up-regulated HLA-E/hsp60 signal peptide cell-surface levels on stressed cells. Notably, HLA-E molecules in complex with the hsp60 signal peptide are no longer recognized by CD94/NKG2A inhibitory receptors. Thus, during cellular stress an increased proportion of HLA-E molecules may bind the nonprotective hsp60 signal peptide, leading to a reduced capacity to inhibit a major NK cell population. Such stress induced peptide interference would gradually uncouple CD94/NKG2A inhibitory recognition and provide a mechanism for NK cells to detect stressed cells in a peptide-dependent manner

    Poly(aniline-co-o-toluidine) (PANI-co-POT) thin films were deposited on indium tin oxide- (ITO-) coated glass substrates by electrochemical polymerization under cyclic voltammetric conditions from aniline-co-o-toluidine monomer in an aqueous solution of HCl as a supporting electrolyte. These measurements showed that the optical band gap of the copolymer films is on the order of 2.65 eV. On the other hand, ITO/PANI-co-POT/Al devices were fabricated by thermal evaporation of Aluminum circular electrodes on the as-deposited PANI-co-POT films. The Current-Voltage characteristics of these devices are nonlinear. The diode parameters were calculated from I-V characteristics using the modified Shockley equation.     Flexible ordering of antibody class switch and V(D)J joining during B-cell ontogeny

    V(D)J joining is mediated by RAG recombinase during early B-lymphocyte development in the bone marrow (BM). Activation-induced deaminase initiates isotype switching in mature B cells of secondary lymphoid structures. Previous studies questioned the strict ontological partitioning of these processes. We show that pro-B cells undergo robust switching to a subset of immunoglobulin H (IgH) isotypes. Chromatin studies reveal that in pro-B cells, the spatial organization of the Igh locus may restrict switching to this subset of isotypes. We demonstrate that in the BM, V(D)J joining and switching are interchangeably inducible, providing an explanation for the hyper-IgE phenotype of Omenn syndrome

    Influence of Gravity on noncommutative Dirac equation

    In this paper, we investigate the influence of gravity and noncommutativity on Dirac equation. By adopting the tetrad formalism, we show that the modified Dirac equation keeps the same form. The only modification is in the expression of the covariant derivative. The new form of this derivative is the product of its counterpart given in curved space-time with an operator which depends on the noncommutative θ\theta-parameter. As an application, we have computed the density number of the created particles in presence of constant strong electric field in an anisotropic Bianchi universe.Comment: 9 pages, correct some miprints, Accepted for publication in journal of Mod.
