The purpose of this article is to analyze the avant-garde art features in the magazines for children and youth issued on the territory of Siberia in 1920-s – 1930-s. The article explores archive materials and examines the contents of printed issues, peculiarities of the approaches to the inner composition of the material and design techniques, discovers the features of the "Soviet avant-garde" development in children's and youth periodicals. It indicates that the majority of the Siberian Children's and youth magazines issued within that period has demonstrated a strongly demonstrated ideological overtone, claiming its purpose raising the new type of human and orientation on the "literature of fact". The article covers the peculiarities of the illustration techniques in Siberian post-revolutionary magazines. The article marks that up to the mid – late 20-s, the children's and youth periodicals design became composed of such elements as insets, plane drawings based on a contrast combination of black and white, photography and photographic compilation. Furthermore, it describes a number of self-presentation techniques, developed exactly by the avant-garde art. As can be seen from the above, it can be stated that Siberian children's and youth journalism acquired the avant-garde trends of the first third of the XX century, however, they haven't been gradually and fully realized. The author wants to express a deep appreciation to the Russian State Scientific Fund for the financial support of this research (project no. 16-04-00268 ”Siberian avant-garde of the years 1920-1930: newspaper, magazine, almanac, compilation”)

Iterative Method for Blind Evaluation of Mixed Noise Characteristics on Images

    Get PDF
A new method for blind estimation of mixed noise parameters is proposed. The method is based on line fitting into a set of cluster centers obtained from scatter-plot of local variance and mean estimates. Improved estimation of cluster centers is performed on basis of fourth-order statistical moment analysis. The estimation results for the proposed method are compared to the results for other known methods using images from TID2008 database. It is shown that the proposed method provides estimation accuracy comparable to the estimation accuracy of the method based on maximum likelihood estimation of image and noise characteristics (which is considered the best among the existing methods). An advantage of our method is that it is considerably faster

Поступила в редакцию: 02.09.2020. Принята к печати: 23.06.2021.Submitted: 02.09.2020. Accepted: 23.06.2021. This article analyses the poetics of Nikolai Shchegolev’s works from the point of view of the influence of the futuristic and avant-garde tradition on the artistic world of his works. The research aims to identify semantic (themes and motifs) and asemantic aspects (such as the rhythmic structure and construction peculiarities of stanzas and rhymes) of Shchegolev’s poems. These aspects resonate with such phenomena in the poems that were associated in émigré circles with the revolution and Soviet Russia’s art. There is a tendency in scholarly literature to consider the works of poets and writers of the “Eastern branch” of emigration as part of the development of nineteenth-century classical literature and as a continuation of the traditions of symbolism and Acmeism. This approach is often associated with the special position of Harbin, the Russian city in China, which has become a kind of symbol of the past, as life there was based on the model of pre-revolutionary Russia. Nevertheless, some scholars (A. A. Zabiyako, G. V. Efendiyeva, E. O. Kirillova, E. Yu. Kulikova) note the reflection and development of Harbin poets’ avant-garde experience. Nikolai Shchegolev’s works, including these aspects, remain insufficiently explored. In this work, referring to historical and literary and structural and semiotic approaches and the principles of intertextual and poetic analysis, the author turns to the study of themes, motifs, and images, as well as rhythm and strophic structures in the poetry of Nikolai Shchegolev, which makes it possible to deepen and summarise ideas about the poetics of his works. When considering individual texts, the author concludes that some themes and motifs (such as urban themes, the images of a cinematograph and a mannequin which is coming back to life, and the associated theme of oscillation between the living and the dead), as well as experiments with rhythm, strophic division, and word coinage were accepted and understood by Shchegolev through the poetry of Vladimir Mayakovski, Boris Pasternak, and the futurists.Работа выполнена при поддержке гранта РНФ № 19-18-00127 «Сибирь и Дальний Восток первой половины XX века как пространство литературного трансфера».The work was supported by the Russian Science Foundation grant 19-18-00127 “Siberia and the Far East of the First Half of the 20th Century as a Space of Literary Transfer”

Transport properties of Layer-Antiferromagnet CuCrS2: A possible thermoelectric material

The electrical, thermal conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of the quenched, annealed and slowly cooled phases of the layer compound CuCrS2 have been reported between 15K to 300K. We also confirm the antiferromagnetic transition at 40K in them by our magnetic measurements between 2K and 300K. The crystal flakes show a minimum around 100K in their in-plane resistance behavior. For the polycrystalline pellets the resistivity depends on their flaky texture and it attains at most 10 to 20 times of the room temperature value at the lowest temperature of measurement. The temperature dependence is complex and no definite activation energy of electronic conduction can be discerned. We find that the Seebeck coefficient is between 200-450 microV/K and is unusually large for the observed resistivity values of between 5-100 mOhm-cm at room temperature. The figure of merit ZT for the thermoelectric application is 2.3 for our quenched phases, which is much larger than 1 for useful materials. The thermal conductivity K is mostly due to lattice conduction and is reduced by the disorder in Cu- occupancy in our quenched phase. A dramatic reduction of electrical and thermal conductivity is found as the antiferromagnetic transition is approached from the paramagnetic region, and K subsequently rises in the ordered phase. We discuss the transport properties as being similar to a doped Kondo-insulator

The role of exometabolites isolated from aquatic macrophytes in the activity of oil-oxidizing microorganisms (Pseudomonas melochlora)

Oil hydrocarbons are known to be biodegradable, but the process of oil biodegradation depends on many factors. This article is intended to reveal the role exometabolites iso-lated from aquatic macrophytes in the activity of oil-oxidi-zing microorganism Pseudomonas melochlora. Amino acids, carbohydrates and organic acids influence differently the oil-oxidizing activity of P. melochlora. Addition of amino acids to growth medium resulted in increasing growth rates of bacterium and harvest. Exogenous carbohydrates also stimulated both the growth of P. melochlora and oil bio-degradation. Organic acids did not show any consistent patterns with regard to growth rate of the bacterium used, its respiration activity, and the ability to degrade the oil. © by PSP

The effect of nitrate nitrogen and salicylic acid on aerenchyma formation in typha angustifolia grown in mesocosms

    Get PDF
Macrophytes play a significant role in the functioning of hydroecosystems. Their activities include changes at the physiological and anatomical levels toward the action of various pollutants. This study was intended to reveal some features in aerenchyma formation in roots of Typha angustifolia exposed to various concentrations of nitrate nitrogen and salicylic acid. It was found that the resistance of T. angustifolia to nitrate nitrogen is mediated by redistribution of aerenchyma formation in the root system. The action of salicylic acids results in decreasing influence of nitrate nitrogen in two types of adventitious roots. Features of aeren-chyma formation in the soilborne roots and aquatic ones were different. © 2011

This paper reviews basic modern trends in obtainment of anti-rabies immunoglobulin with enhanced properties. One of these trends is associated with the substitution of organ-tissue antigen by cultural antigen at the stage of producer immunization. Analyzed are the results of research connected with the use of the cell-cultures grown Rabies virus in production of heterologous anti-rabies immunoglobulin. The study testifies of applicability of the transferred Vero cell culture as a substrate for rabies antigen preparation. In addition to this, specified are the advantages of the rabies cultural antigen usage over the organ-tissue one at the stage of hyper-immune serum production

How to Attract Women in STEM and Help Them Become Successful: The Review of Practices of Overcoming Gender Stereotypes

    Get PDF
Gender imbalance among students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is a worldwide problem leading to negative social and economic consequences. Despite the widespread “myth of gender equality” in Russia, this problem is also relevant for our country. The share of male students in most STEM fields in Russian universities significantly exceeds the share of female students, especially in engineering and technical fields. The article is aimed at analyzing the existing experience of combating gender stereotypes in STEM educational programs. It provides an overview of seven types of practices: 1) informing girls about gender stereotypes and their negative consequences; 2) practices aimed at developing “growth mindset”; 3) influence through “role models” and the formation of friendship networks based on interest in STEM; 4) class composition management; 5) organization of active learning; 6) emphasis on the public benefit of career in STEM; 7) creating a positive climate through working with stereotypes of male teachers and students. The article also discusses the applicability of these practices in the Russian educational context

Changes of photosynthesis and carbon metabolism in typha angustifolia L grown in conditions of nitrate nitrogen overload

Nitrates may induce alterations in NO-signaling system and change photosynthesis in plants. Significant reduction of 14CO 2 fixation was noted at concentration of 3.96 mM NaNO 3 in an aquatic macrophyte (Typha angustifolia L.). Assimilation of 14CO 2 seven days after the introduction of nitrates did not differ between control and experimental samples. There were changes in distribution of 14C among products of 4CO 2 fixation 4 h after NaNO 3 addition, resulting in increased sugar radioactivity in experimental plants. It was suggested that the observed changes may have regulatory importance. © 2012 by Acta Botanica Croatica, the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb
