    Get PDF
This paper examines the relationships between salient beliefs and intention to shop online based on TRA model.Over 140 students of a Malaysian university completed a 4-page questionnaire consisting of 26-items measuring salient beliefs(convenience, information, product perception, shopping experience, customer service and customer risk) and 4-items measuring intention to shop online for 18 product categories.Regression analysis of factor scores (resulting from factor analysis of salient beliefs) shows that convenience, information and product perception jointly explain 43.5 percent variance in intention to shop online. The finding implies that online shopping is becoming more popular amongst students due to its convenience, ease of getting information and positive product perceptions. This implies that E-commerce operators should continue to make their presence known on the web. Limitations and practical implications of the findings are also discussed in the paper

Alkaline treatments on EFB fibre: the effect on mechanical-physical properties and fibre-cement hydration rate

    Get PDF
The natural fibres commonly used to enhance the brittleness of the cement matrix but appropriate fibre should be used for a particular purpose depending upon the type of fibre and characteristics. The Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) fibre is one of the major crops in Malaysia, which contribute large scale of waste that is durable and make it reasonable for utilization in cement-based product. However, the presence of hemicellulose, lignin and extractive (oil, sugar and starch) affect the performance of EFB fibre and causes an incompatibility of EFB fibre and cement. Hence, this research is been conducted to explore the suitable proportion of Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) treatment for EFB fibre to increase the compatibility of cement with EFB fibre. The NaOH concentration of 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8%, 1%, 2%, 3% and 4% were used in this study as a chemical pre-treatment of EFB fibre for surface morphology observation and hydration rate test. Meanwhile for only untreated fibre, fibre treated with 0.4% (low concentration), 1% (medium concentration) and 4% (high concentration) of alkali treatment were tested for tensile strength of single EFB fibre. The fibre treated with NaOH has shown a significant different on the hydration temperature for EFB fibre- cement mixed compared with the untreated fibre. The higher NaOH concentration, the greater hydration temperatures obtain. The Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) image show that the increment NaOH concentration applied, the rougher EFB fibre surface is observed with lesser silica body remain. The tensile properties of individual fibre treated with NaOH (0.4%, 1% and 4%) has shown significant increment as compare to the untreated fibre with the highest tensile properties mean value 422.90 N/mm2 at 4% NaOH concentration

The basic of self-management in Asian Folklore

    Get PDF
Without management, human lives will face with a lot of risk. For example, self-management has become a basic thing that has been exposed since childhood by adults as well as individuals nearby. Such exposure is also applied in children’s books from an early age as a useful initial input. In this case, the management aspect is knowledge-based that has been widely introduced in Asia for a long time. This can be seen in the Koleksi Cerita Rakyat Asia Untuk Kanak-kanak (Buku 1) which has been published by the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka as a result of the Asian Copublication Programme, organized by the Asian Cultural Centre for Unesco / Tokyo Book Development Centre, in collaboration with Unesco and the countries of UNESCO members in Asia. The findings also showed that the dominant basis of selfmanagement which covers basic things such as time management, emotions, conflict and hygiene

A Hybrid Method of Least Square Support Vector Machine and Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm for Medium Term Electricity Price Forecasting

    Get PDF
Predicting electricity price has now become an important task for planning and maintenance of power system. In medium term forecast, electricity price can be predicted for several weeks ahead up to a year or few months ahead. It is useful for resources reallocation where the market players have to manage the price risk on the expected market scenario. However, researches on medium term price forecast have also exhibit low forecast accuracy. This is due to the limited historical data for training and testing purposes. Therefore, an optimization technique of Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm (BFOA) for Least Square Support Vector Machine (LSSVM) was developed in this study to provide an accurate electricity price forecast with optimized LSSVM parameters and input features. So far, no literature has been found on feature and parameter selections using the LSSVM-BFOA method for medium term price prediction. The model was examined on the Ontario power market; which is reported as among the most volatile market worldwide. Monthly average of Hourly Ontario Electricity Price (HOEP) for the past 12 months and month index are selected as the input features. The developed LSSVM-BFOA shows higher forecast accuracy with lower complexity than the existing models

Motion estimation on homogenous surface for around view monitoring system

    Get PDF
Around View Monitoring (AVM) system uses multiple input cameras mounted on different positions of a vehicle to display 360° bird-eye-view around the vehicle that is not readily visible to the driver. The development of this system will contribute to the reduction of parking accidents by monitoring its surroundings, detecting lanes and identifying obstacles. With AVM, we can significantly decrease the number of minor accidents. AVM will not only be used for parking assistance but can also assist navigation in the narrow path area. Conventional AVM systems developed in the market using four or six cameras and requires an additional sensor for detection in order to minimise stitching error or to reduce the time to calibrate the output display image. The procedure is time-consuming and increases the cost of development. We propose to develop two ultra-wide-angle cameras located on the front and rear vehicle integrated with the motion estimation (ME) algorithm to produce a parking bird eye view and forward/backward trajectory lines. From our ablative analysis, optical flow is not suitable to be used for real-time ADAS systems as it fails at least 25.5% of the time. However, block matching algorithm based on normalized cross-correlation (CCORR NORMED) and normalised correlation coefficient (CCOEFF NORMED) were able to detect all templates correctly with 0% of false detection on our dataset
