    Experimental constraints on the parameter space of the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model at LEP 2

    We search for the neutral Higgs sector of the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model at LEP 2. At the tree level any experimental constraints on tan⁥β\tan \beta cannot be set by the Higgs search at LEP 2 with s\sqrt{s} = 175 GeV, whereas at LEP 2 with s\sqrt{s} = 192 GeV tan⁥β\tan \beta can be set by an experimental constraint. Furthermore the tree level parameter space of the model can be completely explored by the Higgs search at LEP 2 with s\sqrt{s} = 205 GeV. Radiative corrections both to the neutral Higgs boson masses and to the relevant couplings for the scalar Higgs productions give large contributions to the production cross sections of the scalar Higgs bosons at the tree level. The tree level situation at LEP 2 with s\sqrt{s} = 192 GeV as well as with s\sqrt{s} = 205 GeV can be drastically changed by these effects. We expect that a small region of the 1-loop level parameter space of the model via the scalar Higgs production can be explored by the Higgs search at LEP 2.Comment: 14 pages (3 figures are included

    We study the possible heavy molecular states composed of a pair of charm mesons in the H and S doublets. Since the P-wave charm-strange mesons Ds0(2317)D_{s0}(2317) and Ds1(2460)D_{s1}(2460) are extremely narrow, the future experimental observation of the possible heavy molecular states composed of Ds/Ds∗D_s/D_s^\ast and Ds0(2317)/Ds1(2460)D_{s0}(2317)/D_{s1}(2460) may be feasible if they really exist. Especially the possible JPC=1−−J^{PC}=1^{--} states may be searched for via the initial state radiation technique.Comment: 42 pages, 4 tables, 31 figures.     A minimal Beta Beam with high-Q ions to address CP violation in the leptonic sector

    In this paper we consider a Beta Beam setup that tries to leverage at most existing European facilities: i.e. a setup that takes advantage of facilities at CERN to boost high-Q ions (8Li and 8B) aiming at a far detector located at L = 732 Km in the Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory. The average neutrino energy for 8Li and 8B ions boosted at \gamma ~ 100 is in the range E_\nu = [1,2] GeV, high enough to use a large iron detector of the MINOS type at the far site. We perform, then, a study of the neutrino and antineutrino fluxes needed to measure a CP-violating phase delta in a significant part of the parameter space. In particular, for theta_13 > 3 deg, if an antineutrino flux of 3 10^19 useful 8Li decays per year is achievable, we find that delta can be measured in 60% of the parameter space with 6 10^18 useful 8B decays per year.Comment: 19 pages, 10 figures, added references and corrected typo

    On the Geodesic Nature of Wegner's Flow

    Wegner's method of flow equations offers a useful tool for diagonalizing a given Hamiltonian and is widely used in various branches of quantum physics. Here, generalizing this method, a condition is derived, under which the corresponding flow of a quantum state becomes geodesic in a submanifold of the projective Hilbert space, independently of specific initial conditions. This implies the geometric optimality of the present method as an algorithm of generating stationary states.     Using untagged B^0 -> D K_S to determine gamma

    It is shown that the weak phase gamma=arg(-V_{ud}V^*_{ub}V_{cb}V_{cd}^*) can be determined using only untagged decays B/Bbar--> D K_S. In order to reduce the uncertainty in gamma, we suggest combining information from B^{+-}--> DK^{+-} and from untagged B^0 decays, where the D meson is observed in common decay modes. Theoretical assumptions, which may further reduce the statistical error, are also discussed.Comment: 18 pages, same as published versio

    The open-charm radiative and pionic decays of molecular charmonium Y(4274)

    In this work, we investigate the decay widths and the line shapes of the open-charm radiative and pionic decays of Y(4274) with the DsDˉs0(2317)D_s\bar{D}_{s0}(2317) molecular charmonium assignment. Our calculation indicates that the decay widths of Y(4274)→Ds+Ds∗−γY(4274)\to D^{+}_{s}D^{*-}_{s}\gamma and Y(4274)→Ds+Ds−π0Y(4274)\to D^+_{s}D^-_{s}\pi^0 can reach up to 0.05 keV and 0.75 keV, respectively. In addition, the result of the line shape of the photon spectrum of Y(4274)→Ds+Ds∗−γY(4274)\to D_s^+ {D}_s^{*-} \gamma shows that there exists a very sharp peak near the large end point of photon energy. The line shape of the pion spectrum of Y(4274)→Ds+Ds∗−π0Y(4274)\to D_s^+ {D}_s^{*-} \pi^0 is similar to that of the pion spectrum of Y(4274)→Ds+Ds∗−γY(4274)\to D_s^+ {D}_s^{*-} \gamma, where we also find a very sharp peak near the large end point of pion energy. According to our calculation, we suggest further experiments to carry out the search for the open-charm radiative and pionic decays of Y(4274).Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, 1 table. Published versio

    Solitons in nonlocal nonlinear media: exact results

    We investigate the propagation of one-dimensional bright and dark spatial solitons in a nonlocal Kerr-like media, in which the nonlocality is of general form. We find an exact analytical solution to the nonlinear propagation equation in the case of weak nonlocality.     Heavy Meson Description with a Screened Potential

    We perform a quark model calculation of the bbˉb\bar{b} and ccˉc\bar{c} spectra from a screened funnel potential form suggested by unquenched lattice calculations. A connection between the lattice screening parameter and an effective gluon mass directly derived from QCD is established.     Reactions of provitamin‑A‑enriched maize to foliar diseases under field conditions in Nigeria

    Open Access ArticleMaize is a major staple food in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Vitamin A deficiency index is high in Africa and could be reduced through the consumption of provitamin-A-enriched maize. However, foliar diseases such as maize streak virus, northern corn leaf blight and common rust constrain maize production in SSA. The cultivation of host-resistant varieties is the most effective approach to mitigate their effects. Therefore, maize synthetics improved for PVA carotenoids, their selection cycles and crosses as well as a commercial disease-resistant check were assessed for resistance to maize streak virus, northern corn leaf blight and common rust at hotspots in Nigeria. The foliar diseases’ effects on the agronomic performance and carotenoid content of the maize genotypes were assessed. The Genotypes differed for most agronomic traits and foliar disease resistance. Stepwise regression revealed that, although the agronomic traits determined 93% of the grain yield, each foliar disease had effect on the yield. A unit increase in maize streak virus score increased plant aspect and husk cover scores by 0.6 and 0.4, respectively, whereas an increase in common rust score decreased plant height by 16.2 cm and increased plant aspect score by 0.7. Maize streak virus and common rust decreased genotypic variability for lutein by 36.7 and 18.7%, respectively, while northern corn leaf blight decreased genotypic variability for provitamin A by 27.1%. Most of the genotypes exhibited moderate susceptibility to northern corn leaf blight. However, three selection cycles and three crosses exhibited high tolerance to maize streak virus and moderate tolerance to common rust, thus can serve as sources of PVA-enriched, maize streak virus and common rust tolerant lines
