The use of computer application in music education in Malaysia is still limited.Music teachers are not well exposed to the need for the use of computer applications. This study intends to obtain informationon the effectiveness of using computer applicationsin writing music notation among music majors enrolled in local Teachers Training Colleges. The study also intends to determine the correlation between achievement in writing music notation and level of computer literacy, as well as students' attitudes and perceptions toward computers . The study was carried out using the one group experimental method , where the subjects were given a pre-test. After they were exposed to a specific computer software as a treatment, subjects were given post-tests to measure their achievement in writing music notation, attitudes and perception stoward computers and computer literacy levels. All the data gathered fro m these tests were analysed using t-test method a n d Pearson's Correlation

Electroactive nanomaterials for environmental and pharmaceutical sensing

Sensing is an important emerging technology in the current industrial era. It covers a plethora of applications from medical personalized devices to aerospace oxygen level detectors. Of those applications, environmental and pharmaceutical sensors are significantly important. Specifically, electrochemical sensors are easy to use and develop besides being cost-effective and accurate. The work in this thesis concerns the development of two sensing platforms for the detection of Hg(II) as a water pollutant, and the detection of Lornoxicam (LOR) as a pharmaceutical compound. The materials fabricated were morphologically, structurally, and electrochemically characterized. They were also tested against their analytical targets in spiked and real sample media to ensure their utility, sensitivity and accuracy. The testing results were either in the sub-nano or the pico-molar levels, with high linear range. The materials were also examined to target the analyte species in separate and co-formulated media to assure their selectivity. Furthermore, the sensing platforms were repeatedly used to test their stability and reproducibility. Titania nanotubes/reduced graphene oxide (TNTs/RGO) showed an efficient sensibility of Hg(II) in the presence of Cu(II) and Mn(II) species with no significant interference for a wide range of concentrations. On the other hand, BaNb2O6 nanofibers showed an enhanced activity towards the electrocatalytic oxidation of Lornoxicam (LOR) and paracetamol (PAR), producing remarkably high oxidation currents. Wide linear dynamic ranges, high sensitivity, very low LOD, good reproducibility and repeatability, and high stability, together with simple procedures for surface modification and determination are the advantages of the prepared sensors

In this study, increasing electricity demand requires considerable attention to increasing the diversity of power generation. Alternative energy can produce heating and power systems and thermal storage. Our objective and every organization’s objectives are to minimize its energy consumption cost under electricity demand uncertainty. In rural areas, heat and power availability and stability are also crucial. Combined heat and power have proven their effectiveness as a subsequent to Electricity. This paper identified four criteria and eleven sub-criteria to determine the most appropriate structure location for combined heat and power in the rural community. The Bayesian Network technology has been applied to analyze these criteria comprehensively. A case study including multiple sites across the Mississippi state was used to validate the proposed approach, and propagation and sensitivity analysis were used to evaluate performance. Results showed the summarized eleven criteria proposed Bayesian Network approach could aid location selection for Combined heat and power location in the rural area. Supplementary, the created model can support decision-makers to select the best alternatives under different electricity demand variability levels

    Software Patent in U.S. Law

The handling of the patent system is at variance in the American system with that in the European Union\u27s system, where the American system began to allow software protection under its patent system in addition to copyright protection while the European Union\u27s Patent Office accepts this tendency some member States reject it. This affects negatively the level of protection and its nature, which should be available in a suitable and balanced manner between the different legal systems due to the nature of software as a countries\u27 trans-border product. Thus, this research study calls for a special system of protection since the two major intellectual property systems, namely copyright and patent, do not provide separately the required protection to software and contradicts the joint protection decision, which is due to the different nature of both systems

Kompang :an organological and ethnomusicological study of a Malay frame drum

PhD ThesisThis study explores how the kompang (single-headed frame drum), which was adapted from the Arab/Islamic culture, plays a significant role in augmenting the Malay culture. Using a combination of musicological and ethnographic approaches, the author reveals the historical facts as well as analyzing the organological aspects of the instrument. The uniqueness of kompang music is disclosed through the musicological analysis of its repertoire, according to the three types of kompang ensemble performed throughout Peninsular Malaysia. Combining observations and interviews with his own experiences of learning how to play the kompang, the author presents a detailed account of traditional, aural learning processes as well as the performance practices of the instrument as presented in the ethnomusicological literature. In addition, the study of kompang music traces the stylistic changes in its traditional form and functions and links these changes to the socio-cultural transformations prevalent in Malaysian society. This work - complete with four compact discs (audio and video) of musical examples - contributes not only to ethnomusicological theory and method, but also to a deeper understanding of Malay musical culture

The impact of cash holding, and exchange rate volatility on the firm’s financial performance of all manufacturing sector in Pakistan

Exchange rate movement is a mostly debatable issue amongst economists and strategic financial planners in the economies as a vital phenomenon, of every economy in the developing the world. This study sets out to examine the impact of cash conversion cycle, Size, Age, and exchange rate movement on firms’ financial decisions. The estimation used techniques of static panel data analysis in this study; pooled OLS, random effects, and fixed effects. Interaction techniques are applied to check the impact of the exchange rate by multiplying this variable with the main variables of cash conversion cycle, that is receivable in days and payables in days. The results depict there is a significant negative relationship between return on assets and exchanger rate during the period of review while the beta of cash conversion cycle has negative value; age and size are positive and significant at 1% level with return on assets. Therefore, it is recommended that organizations that have some measure to agreement in foreign currencies can adopt some advanced hedging technique to occupy the exchange rate movements risk to improve firm’s performance
