Technology integration in teaching and learning activities has become one of the debatable issues among educators in recent years, especially since many countries have invested a large portion of their yearly budgets on technologies in education. As one of the developing countries, Malaysia has also spent millions and planned many programs and strategies to increase the technology integration level of teachers in schools. Despite that, the level of technology integration among teachers in Malaysia still needs a lot of improvement, especially in teachers' attitudes. This study examined English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers’ attitudes towards the use of technology in the teaching of English at secondary schools in Sabah. This is crucial to assist in planning for any future programs or trainings by the relevant authorities. The study applied quantitative method and used cluster sampling to choose participants which comprised 100 of ESL secondary school teachers in Sabah Findings of the study disclosed that ESL secondary school teachers in Sabah have positive beliefs and attitudes towards technology integration

Ownership Structure and Microfinance Institutions’ Performance: A Case of Latin America

    Get PDF
The purpose of the paper is to determine how financial performance and social performance is influenced by ownership status of micro finance institutions (MFIs). For this purpose, data is collected from Latin American MFIs. As dependent variables are dichotomous including NGO-type MFIs and Bank-type MFIs, we used logit and probit model. The results show that NGO-type MFIs are negatively related with financial performance and Bank-type MFIs are negatively related with social performance. The results confirm the previous studies as well as logical relations. The study negates the presence of mission drift in case of NGO-type MFIs and Bank-type MFIs that may open up a new wave of discussion and encourage future researchers to highlight antecedents of such relations

AbstractFatty acids themselves have a number of biological properties and its easy intake by the human body will focus to the synthesis of many heterocyclic moiety substituted with fatty acid residue, to make more gradual intake of heterocycles in the human body. 2,5-Dimethyl pyrrole 2(a–e) and 1,3-benzoxazin-4-one 4(b–e) derivatives were synthesized, from cyclization of fatty acid hydrazide 1(a–e) with acetonyl acetone and from the reaction of fatty esters 3(b–e) with anthranilic acid in the presence of POCl3, respectively. All these compounds were characterized with the help of IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectra. The synthesized compounds were screened for antimicrobial evaluation against gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus SA 22, Bacillus subtilis MTCC 121), gram-negative (Escherichia coli K12, Klebsiella pneumoniae) and fungal strains (Candida albicans IOA-109) and were found to be good antimicrobial agents

Talent management in relation to the development of competitive advantage in Malaysian large firms

One of the biggest problems faced by Companies is the management of talent as talent is considered an important factor in the success and failure of businesses. Hence the subject of Talent Management can be considered one of the most important subjects in business management where mastery of it can determine the success and failure of businesses. There is however the problem of measuring Talent Management impact to overall organization success.Hence this study will examine the Talent Management practices of large Malaysian companies and whether the practices are tied to creating Competitive Advantage. Questions explored are what are the talent management practices implemented by these companies, what are the issues they face in implementing them and the management philosophy of talent employed by these companies. Finally the study looks at whether these companies managed to develop the competitive advantage they seek through the talent management practices they implement

Abstract To better understanding of DNA replicating-coupled chromatin assembly and transcription regulation, we cloned and sequenced cDNA encoding the chicken p46 polypeptide, chp46, homologous to the p48 subunit of chicken chromatin assembly factor-1, chCAF-1p48. The cDNA encoding a protein consists of 424 amino acids including a putative initiation Met, is a member of the WD protein family, with seven WD repeat motifs, and exhibits 90.3% identity to chCAF-1p48, and 94.3% identity to the human and mouse p46 polypeptides. The p46 polypeptide fusion protein were synthesized by in vitro translation system and expressed in Escherichia coli under induction by 50 µM IPTG and single step purified with glutathione-agarose beads, showed that GST-tagged protein of approximately 72 kDa, were dramatically synthesis in Escherichia coli BL-21 cells. The in vitro experiment established that chp46 interacts with chicken histones, chHDAC-1, and chHAT-1. The in vitro immunoprecipitation experiment, involving truncated mutants of chp46, revealed not only that two regions comprising amino acids 33-179 and 375-404 are necessary for its binding to H2B, but also that two regions comprising amino acids 1-32 and 405-424 are necessary for its binding to H4. Furthermore, the GST pulldown affinity assay, involving truncated mutants of chp46, revealed that a region comprising amino acids 359-404 binds to chHAT-1 in vitro. Taken together, these results indicate not only that chp46 should participate differentially in a number of DNA-utilizing processes through interactions of its distinct regions with histones and chHAT-1, but also that the proper propeller structure of chp46 is not necessary for its interaction with chHAT-1

Technology integration in teaching and learning activities has become one of the debatable issues among educators in recent years. This is due to the fact that countries all over the world have injected millions of dollars to integrate technologies in education. Malaysia, being one of the developing countries, has also devised many plans and programs to integrate related technological tools and materials in schools. For that, this study examined English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers’ attitudes towards the use of technology in the teaching of English at secondary schools in Sabah. This is essential to assist in developing any future programs or trainings by the relevant authorities. The study applied quantitative method and used cluster sampling to choose participants which comprised 100 of ESL secondary school teachers in Sabah. Globally, there is a growing trend among organisations towards promoting sustainability as an essential business strategy due to a high level of awareness about the impacts of their operations on the triple bottom line. This paper aims to examine the implementation of sustainability practices in an organisation focusing on universities. The objective was to determine sustainability adopted in facilities management (FM) practice concerning three different sustainability dimensions. Sixteen (16) interviews were conducted with the senior managerial level in selected universities. Among all dimensions, environmental sustainability was widely focused on having higher priorities for energy efficiency, waste reduction, and water conservation. These results provided some explanation and understanding of the overall picture of the study about organisational commitment towards sustainability in facilities management. Keywords: Sustainable Facilities Management; Malaysian Universities; Sustainable Organisation; Facilities ManagementeISSN: 2398-4287 © 2020. The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C7H5ClO3, contains two molecules; both feature an intramolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bond, which generates an S(6) ring. In the crystal, both molecules form inversion dimers linked by pairs of O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds with R 2 2(8) ring motifs. The dimers are interlinked by C—H⋯O interactions
